Perris=20 Blackwell, a 6=92 9=94 forward/center from Etiwanda High School in = Etiwanda, CA. has=20 given the University of San Francisco a verbal commitment.  After=20 completing an official visit to both The University of San Francisco and = St.=20 Mary=92s College, Perris cancelled his visit to Fresno State.

Perris, who=20 played varsity this past season as a part-time starter, played a pivotal = role in=20 his team posting a record of 31-3 before losing in the CIF Championship = game to=20 MLK.

Perris=20 Blackwell is considered one of the top center prospects on the west = coast by=20 ESPN.com and Scout.com He is a big bodied, strong power = forward/center with=20 excellent skills.  He is also an intense competitor who plays = superbly with=20 his back to the basket.  A much improved athlete Perris has great = hands, is=20 a tenacious rebounder on the offensive glass, and is exceptional in the = pick and=20 roll game.

 The odyssey=20 began for Perris in the 9th grade when he joined IEBP as a = 6=922=92=20 center.  His ability and overall confidence as a player greatly = improved as=20 a direct result of the workout regime he undertook during this spring = and=20 summer.  He played well during the Santa Clara elite camp, being = offer a=20 scholarship, and the UCLA elite camp where he faced some of the best = players on=20 the west coast.  But it was at the Double Pump Camp where Perris = had his=20 awakening and saw his stock soar.  Perris was name to the =93Best = of the Best=20 All-Star Game=94 and, there after, had schools from around the country = in hot=20 pursuit of him. By the end of the summer Perris had multiple = scholarships offer=20 to consider.  He had gained the attention of the UCR, Colgate = University,=20 Boise State, Tulsa, Pacific, University of Washington, Marquette, Fresno = State=20 and Arizona State among others.

 We spoke=20 with Perris this evening to ask, "Why San Francisco?"  He replied, = "San=20 Francisco represented the perfect balance of athletics, academics and = social=20 life.  After being around the coaching staff on my un-official and = official=20 visit, I found them to be genuine with both me and my parents.  = After=20 having the chance to develop a relationship with head coach Rex Walters, = who is=20 a former NBA player, I believe I will gain experience that will prove to = be=20 invaluable to me.  I=92m confident he is going to turn the program = around=20 with good players and I want to be a part of that...  Plus the city = is=20 beautiful.=94

 Perris=20 envisions the possibility of playing significant minutes as a freshman, = and the=20 ability to be a significant team contributor right from the start.  = "I want=20 to help win a WCC title, and to help restore the legacy of USF = basketball before=20 I=92m done there=94. "Additionally, I would like my family to have the = opportunity=20 to enjoy my collegiate experience because I won't be that far from=20 home."

 Carrying a=20 3.2 grade point average, Perris plans to major in Business=20 administration.

Scouting Report:=20 Perris possess great court awareness and court vision with exceptional = passing=20 skills. Perris has immensely improved in the development of his low post = game,=20 becoming a fine low post scorer who can score with either hand in the=20 paint.  He can also step out and hit the 17 foot jumper.  Must = continue to get stronger to become an elite player at the college level. =
