    Our History
The Long Island Storm was formed in 2002. In 2004 we joined forces with our successful 14u team. Both teams are based out of Bellmore and recruit players from all over Long Island.
The Long Island Storm 16u travel baseball team was created to offer talented and motivated players a chance to play against other competitive teams. We strive and succeed at giving players a chance to improve their individual baseball skills and learn team strategy with an emphasis on perseverance needed to play competitive baseball.... all year round. Our goal?.... To win baseball games with the focus on winning those games as a team. While also learning to win games as a team, we also focus on building the player's character and self-confidence...Confidence to last a lifetime! Our belief is that practice plays an especially important part in all of this. "Good things come to those who work hard". Games we obviously play hard....we practice harder! It is during practice that we achieve individual and team goals. We strive for excellence. We provide an intensive learning experience that is both challenging and fun.

    Parental Involvement
Parents play an important role in the success of Travel Baseball. Families are asked to commit a great deal of time and effort, along with the necessary expense. Before making the commitment, parents must decide whether they are truly able to do so. Travel of up to an hour is sometimes necessary to attend games. All parents are required to have their children present and ready to warm up 1 hour prior to game time. Double headers are played frequently which consist of a four to five hour time slot on weekends. Keep in mind single games are sometimes scheduled during the week also. Along with this...there will be practice. Parents are encouraged to practice with their children on their own time, using coach’s suggestions to work on improving individual skills. Players are expected to attend all practices and games. We will also look to play in a minimum two tournaments. Our complete schedule will consist of approximately 60 games beginning in March and ending in October. Quite an investment in time and energy. Quite a sacrifice. Travel Baseball also requires coordination with other organizations and sometimes demands flexibility on the part of everyone involved. Parents are also asked to help with general needs of the team. Most of all, parents are asked to be supportive of the boys and the coaches. Part of being supportive is trusting that your coaches are making the best decisions for the team, the individual and leaving coaches decision up to coaches. Interactions with players during the games or practices is discouraged so the player can give 100% of their attention to their coaches and their teammates. Only positive words of encouragement are appropriate from parents, who are required to keep 'distance' from the dugout. There will be NO tolerance of criticism of players on this team, the other team, the coaches or the umpires. There will be NO tolerance for arguments with Umpires. Travel Baseball games can be very intense, which can be fun and exciting. Parents are asked to make that intensity fun and not unnecessarily tense.

    Attendance at Games and Practices
Attendance at all games and practices is mandatory. Players are required to be at games 1 hour prior to game time, prompt for practice, dressed - unloaded of all equipment and ready to go, at the required time. If a player is not available for any particular practice or game, one of the coaches must be notified well in advance. Minimum 24 hours, unless an emergency. If coaches are not notified in advance it sends a bad message to the other boys and parents and is a poor reflection on that player’s commitment to being part of a team. Keep in mind practices are more important than the games. The children will learn to sharpen their skills more in practice than in any game. We love practice!

    Positions and Lineup
Positions of players are determined by the skill level of the players...under all circumstances. This is a competitive developmental team. Coaches will work to develop players for positions for which they are best suited but we will NOT "pigeon coup" the children into a one-position player. It is of the utmost importance that the boys learn all positions. Players will be taught mechanics and strategy to play all positions. As situations allow and at the discretion of the coaches, children will be moved around to play other positions...especially in Fall League play. This is strictly a coach’s decision. Players are not necessarily rotated through positions or given equal playing time, as they are in traditional little league play. Some players will play more innings than others but all would be treated fairly. Coaches decisions will be guided at all times by what is good for the team while ALWAYS communicating to the players and the parents. It would be unfair, based on the commitment that Travel Baseball entails, to do otherwise.

What we seek in our players.... What does it mean to be on the Long Island Storm
We seek players who are committed to being part of a team. We seek players who display the "Discipline, Dedication and Desire" to play baseball and excel in other areas. The players who play for the Long Island Storm are players who are able to reach within themselves and rise to another level. To strive to get better and to give 100% effort and hustle at all times...practice or games. We seek players who play every pitch, of every inning. We seek players who accept nothing but the best from themselves. We seek players who set goals, individual and team goals, and are willing to work hard to achieve those goals. We seek players who aspire to have individual greatness. We seek selfish players who want the best for themselves individually but............do it within the 'TEAM" concept. Baseball is one of the only sports that allow individual selfish greatness...nothing wrong with that. We want our players to be selfish and want to be 4 for 4 every game...to be the star and want to be the best. Here's the catch though...We want the selfish player who goes 2 for 3 and lays down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to win the game and realize that the team win was more important and gratifying. Selfishness is good, as long as it is done within the "TEAM". Going 4 for 4 is terrific. Everyone wants that. We don't want the ball players who selfishly seek only that.... for themselves. We will have, and only do have, players with character. We want players who want to be part of the "TEAM". This is what it is to be on the Long Island Storm

    Winter Training

Indoor Winter Workouts will begin in January 2007. Workouts are scheduled for Sundays at Kennedy High School in Bellmore, and will conclude in the middle of March. We will also be running a speed and agility clinic.
