Optimist Field Update August 22, 2008 --
I want to announce a couple of important positions that have been created in order to help get our fields down on Boat Club Road ready for this upcoming baseball season and next year's football season.
As you know, we have a layout which includes at least one fenced LL baseball field, a football game field that has been crowned, measured and sprinkler system set, and a larger practice field that will include football practice area and most likely some baseball fields in the near future. These areas will be used for football practice and games beginning next year. We have a lot of balls in the air right now, and for the work that has been done thus far- please know that it is very much appreciated and the progress is inspiring. I am sure we will realize, in years to come, how important the work we are doing now is for the youth and community as a whole.
In order to further our plans, actions and ensure we achieve marked targets over the course of the next year to year and a half, we are announcing this:
General Maintenance Leader- Tony Chaney has accepted this position. This job will entail organizing work for: checking on and maintaining well, sprinkler system, press box, dugouts, batting cage and concession stand working order as well as organizing trash pick up for certain times of the year. Tony C. will work with the Construction leader during immediate time periods since most of the upkeep this position requires will be available once construction is complete and facilities are operational.
**If you ever want to volunteer your time and efforts, Tony is the person who will put our team effort in motion, organize work days and groups and make sure we are progressing.
Construction Leader- Terry Robinson has agreed to head this position up. Tony C. will help with the organization of work groups and we will tackle specific jobs to completion over the course of the next several months along side Terry. We plan on erecting the Belmont Optimist signs, Goal Posts, Pressbox, concession stand, batting cages as well as many other tasks to complete. He has already successfully lead a team to get the sprinkler system in.
The contact information for both Tony and Terry will be listed on Belmont Optimist's website, so please inquire about helping.
We know that during football season, time is hard to come by to get other things done. Soon we go from 5 practice days to 3. If you don't like to hang around and watch games, help with chains, concessions on Saturdays- you can always volunteer to help out on the field. It is bigger than anyone of us. Those fields represent more than "I" or "me". Our hard work will make sure that 1,000s of kids have something productive and fun to participate in. We all know there are far worse things they could be doing with their time.
For Tony and Terry: we understand the sacrifice and dedication it will take to lead these positions, and we truly appreciate what you are offering to our organization.
Please let me know, with an individual email, if you have any questions, issues, concerns or would like to have your name put down to be contacted to get our goals accomplished.
Regards,
Kirk Crawford
