    AAU General Information
    Membership Year

    September 1 - August 31 is the membership year for the Amateur Athletic Union.

    AAU Definitions


    PRACTICE: For the purpose of AAU sanctioning, practice is organized and/or regularly scheduled sessions supervised at all times by a registered AAU non-athlete and conducted for the purpose of preparing, training, instructing and conditioning only AAU registered athletes for AAU competitions. Tryouts and scrimmages are included as long as they meet all the requirements of the above definition.

    SUPERVISION: Supervision requires that an AAU registered non-athlete be physically present at all times at the practice premise or site during each practice session.

    SCRIMMAGE: A practice of an AAU club or with AAU athletes or another club. A scrimmage does not qualify as a practice if an admission fee is charged, or the officials are paid. Scrimmage results must not affect the team's/club's standings or rankings.
    NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Any reference to the term National Championship refers to Division I and II National Championships, unless otherwise noted.

    NATIONAL CLASSIC: This tournament is operated at the same time as the National Championship but is in no way a direct part of the National Championship.


    Competition Rules


    ELIGIBILITY To be administered at all AAU District Qualifiers, National Championships, Super Regional Championships, Disney Spring Classic’s and Inter-District sanctioned competitions.

    AAU Membership Required
    All athletes, non-athletes and other participants in the AAU Girls Basketball program, at any level, must be a current member of the AAU. Every club/team must have an AAU club/team membership for the current year.


    Age Divisions
    Competition in girls' basketball shall be in the following age divisions: 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U,13U, 14U, 15U 16U.

    A maximum of fifteen (15) players are allowed on a team roster. All players and non-athletes listed on the official District Rosters must be registered AAU members.

    Bench Decorum
    Uniforms:
    Players' jerseys must have numbers on both the front and back. Numbers can be 00-99. Minimum size of numbers shall be 2" on the front and 4" on the back. Teams competing in National Championship tournaments must have white and dark jerseys. Uniforms: Home wears White and Visitor wears Dark.

    Dress Code:
    All non-uniformed persons on the bench shall wear slacks shirts with collars and sleeves and dress shoes or tennis shoes during play at the National Championship. Shorts, jeans, sweat pants, athletic wear, tee shirts, hats, and open-toed shoes are not permitted. The dress code applies to female bench personnel as well. Women may wear dresses or skirts appropriate to the occasion.

    Bench Personnel:
    A team may have on its bench only the eligible persons listed on its official roster, including four (4) non-players (coaches, ball boy, scorekeeper, etc.). Only eligible players may wear uniforms on the bench.
    At least one person age 18 or older must be on the bench at all times.
    If as the result of a removal, illness, etc., no roster member of the minimum age of 18 available, tournament administrators shall select a person of suitable age to supervise the bench.

    Violations:
    Violation of Section 1 of this rule shall be penalized by a two (2) shot technical foul for each illegal jersey, to be assessed at the time the player with the illegal jersey enters the game.
    Violation of Sections 2 & 3 of this Rule shall result in the assessment of a 2-shot technical foul for each violation. Thereafter, the offending team shall have one minute to correct the violation. If violation is not corrected the violator shall be removed form the playing floor until violation is corrected.
    All Technical fouls under this Rule are Administrative, and are not assessed to any coach or player.
