    Welcome to the 2007-2008 Season

The Gloucester Blackhawks Minor Midget Rep B Hockey Team welcomes you to our website! Our season is just starting and updates to the schedule and site will be coming soon.

    September 17th, 2007
The Blackhawks looking good in their 1st Exhibition game!

Now that the team selection has been finalized, the new edition of the Blackhawks travelled to Manotick tonight for an exhibition game against the Osgoode-Richmond Senators. While the Senators opened the score and took an early 1-0 lead in the first period, the new linemates of the Blackhawks quickly found their bearings and responded with 3 goals in the 1st period, 3 goals in the second and 1 goal in the 3rd period. Final Score: Blackhawks 7 - Senators 2. GO HAWKS GO!

Blackhawks steal a tie from Ice Dogs in Casselman!

It took a bit more than 2 minutes in the first period for the Embrun-Casselman Ice Dogs to find the back of our net and demonstrate that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. The Hawks had a slow start and made things a bit more difficult for themselves by offering the Ice Dogs a 5 on 3 advantage within the first 5 minutes of the period. The Hawks overcame this difficulty, picked up the pace and scored towards the end of the 1st period to tie the game. In the 2nd period, the Ice Dogs scored 2 unanswered goals, to take a commanding 3-1 lead. The Hawks worked their way back and scored their 2nd goal at the beginning of the 3rd period. With less than 2 minutes to go in the game, the score was still 3-2, the Hawks were shorthanded and their first loss was in sight, when the unexpected happened: a clearing slap shot went straight for the Dogs goalie and deflected into the net!  Final Score: Blackhawks 3 - Ice Dogs 3. GO HAWKS GO!

Blackhawks and MTK deadlocked in Beckwith

If the game tonight is any indication of things to come this season, expect the 1992 edition of The Gloucester Blackhawks and the Mississipi Thunder Kings to pick up where they left off last season. After 4 periods of fast-paced end-to-end hockey... Final Score: Blackhawks 1 - MTK 1. GO HAWKS GO!

    Blackhawks invade Meadows golf course!

The Blackhawks had a different kind of practice today. Some players had a hard time adapting to the non-contact style of play, but everyone had a great day on the course! Check Photo Album for more golf pictures... GO HAWKS GO!

Blackhawks eliminated from Avalanche Tournament in Photo Finish upset by the Nepean Raiders!

The Blackhawks had a an excellent tournament this weekend in North York. They won all 4 of their preliminary round games, to advance to the playoff round. In their semi-final match-up, they played against the Nepean Raiders, who had placed 4th overall in the minor midget division. At the end of the 3rd period, the Hawks had a 2-1 lead and were on their way to the finals, when the unexpected happened: the Raiders scored with less than a second left to the 3rd period, forcing the game into overtime. The Raiders then capitalized on their momentum, to score in overtime and advance to the final round... Better luck next time! GO HAWKS GO!

Blackhawks lose season opener versus Cumberland 5-2

After their good showing in the Avalanche tournament last week, the Hawks looked a bit out of shape tonight. That's what happens when you dont skate for a week. While the 1st period was scoreless, the Barons were leading by 2-0 after 2 periods of play. The Hawks came close in the 3rd period, tying the game in the early minutes, but the Barons would add 2 more to bring it to 4-2 and would seal the game with an empty netter for a final score of 5-2. Better luck next time! GO HAWKS GO!

    October 20th, 2007
Blackhawks post their 1st win in 3-0 shutout over Rams

The Hawks played their first home game tonight at Barrett Arena. The pace of the game was a bit erratic, as no less than 72 minutes of penalties were incurred by both teams. Good job Hawks on your first win. GO HAWKS GO!

    October 24th, 2007
Blackhawks steal a win from the Blues in 22 seconds!

Hockey is a funny sport. You can dominate all aspects of the play and still end up losing the game. In a 1st period were they were outplayed in all aspects, the Hawks were lucky to escape with only a 1-0 deficit. The play was a bit better in the second, but the Blues were still the dominant team. It was only at 24 seconds before the end of the second period, that the Hawks finally got their first goal to tie the game. Then the unexpected happened: the Hawks managed to score a second goal with only 2.4 seconds left on the clock. Hawks beware: games are rarely decided in 22 seconds, you have to work a full 45 minutes on the ice to win hockey games. GO HAWKS GO!

    October 25th, 2007
Blackhawks skate their way to a 2-0 victory over Kanata.

After last night's game against Orleans, many of the Hawks decided to fill-up their tank with a higher octane of fuel. Tonight's game was a definite step up: more speed, more passing and more tactical play. It was a beautiful game to watch. Good job, great effort! GO HAWKS GO!

    October 27th, 2007
Blackhawks jolt Ottawa Sting in 8-3 win!

Things are starting to come together for the Hawks: the various lines are starting to gel, the players are skating well and as demonstrated tonight, the shooting accuracy is increasing. The Hawks took a 5-0 lead in the first 2 periods of play and would add 3 more before the game was over. Good job Hawks! GO HAWKS GO!

    October 28th, 2007
Blackhawks suffer 3-1 loss versus 1st place Ice Dogs.

It's a good thing the Hawks have played 3 games in the last 4 days, because they needed to bring their "A" game to Casselman and go head to head against the 1st place Ice Dogs. Do not let the final score fool you, this was the best game played by the Hawks this season. The Hawks opened the score in the 1st period and would keep the lead until the second period, when the Ice Dogs tied the game in a stunning goal while they were down one man on the power kill. The Ice Dogs would take the lead 2-1 at the end of the second period. They would score again on a power play towards the end of the game to make it 3-1. The Hawks learned that this is one team that will capitalize on every single mistake. Better luck next time! GO HAWKS GO!

2 much time in the box cost Blackhawks loss versus MTK

In many ways it was a very close game: The Hawks outshot MTK 39-29 and had many scoring chances to tie the game at the end of the 3rd period. Some of the near misses where simply unbelievable! In the end, it all came down to giving MTK too many 5 on 3 opportunities. It's very hard to play catch-up hockey. GO HAWKS GO!

    Blackhawks win 7-2 over Clarence/Rockland

Coming back to their home arena in Armstrong was just what the Hawks needed to rebound from their previous loss. The music was pumping, the fans were jumping and the Hawks posted their 5th win of the season in a 7-2 victory over Clarence/Rockland. GO HAWKS GO!

    November8th, 2007
Blackhawks win 1st game of Harold Hamm tournament

Like in the "2 fast 2 furious" movies, the Hawks found the NOx turbo button in their game against Osgoode-Rideau tonight, in the opening round of the Harold Hamm tournament. While the Hawks have always been a bit of a slow starting group in the 1st period, by the time the 3rd period came along they were skating, passing & shooting at an incredible pace. Once the game was over, they had outshot their opponent 52 to 25, to win the game 3-0. WOW! GO HAWKS GO!

    November 9th, 2007
Blackhawks let one slip away in 2-2 tie vs Golden Knights

Taking a break from the Harold Hamm tournament, the Hawks were back at Armstong tonight for a regular league game. What should have been a 2-1 victory for the Hawks was erased in the final minutes of the game, when they handed a tie to the Golden Knights with poor defensive play in their own zone. In some games, every little play counts. GO HAWKS GO!

Blackhawks blank the River Rats 3-0

In their 10th game of the season (yes, one third of the season is done...) the Hawks defeated the River Rats 3-0 in Russell. While the stats sheet tells one story, 31 shots against 27, 63% of face-offs won, etc... The reality is that this was one of the lowest effort produced by the Hawks this season. The pace of the 1st period was similar to the pre-game warm-up session. What happened to the Hawks that kept us on the edge of our seats last Sunday? Come back please, we miss you! GO HAWKS GO!

    November 14th, 2007
Blackhawks smokin' in 7-1 victory over Osgoode-Rideau!

What a difference a day makes. Can the real Blackhawks please stand up? While they may have played 8 hockey games in the last 7 days, we will elect to keep the Hawks we saw in Manotick tonight. Awesome skating, passing and collective play, both offensively and defensively. Good job, just copy & paste for the next game and your fans will be happy... GO HAWKS GO!

    November 17th, 2007
Blackhawks repeat a 3-0 win over Stittsville

In their second match-up of the season, the Hawks gave the Stittsville Rams the same treatment as their first game, by inflicting a 3-0 shutout. GO HAWKS GO!

    November 22nd, 2007
    Blackhawks tie Rockland 0-0

You could say that the Hawks had a shutout this evening, but then they were also scoreless for the first time this season. It's not like they did not have decent chances, but the opposing goalie was hot. GO HAWKS GO!

    November 24th, 2007
    Blackhawks win 4-1 against Osgoode-Richmond!

In their 4th encounter this season (league games + tournament + exhibition), the Hawks continued to demonstrate their domination over the Senators. GO HAWKS GO!

    December 1st, 2007
Blackhawks settle for a 2-2 tie against Kanata

In their 15th game of the season, the Hawks showed a bit of rustiness tonight after a week of inactivity since their last game. The key turning point of this encounter, was when the Hawks conceded a shorthanded goal to Kanata, which would seal the outcome. GO HAWKS GO!

    December 8th, 2007
Blackhawks are hounded in 3-0 loss to Ice Dogs

You ain't nothin' but a hound dog... The first place Embrun-Casselman Ice Dogs are a tough team to beat. The Hawks certainly had many good scoring opportunities, but the Ice Dogs goalie was hot and there was no way to beat him. The Hawks were kept scoreless for only the second time this season. GO HAWKS GO!

    December 12th, 2007
Blackhawks rebound from their previous loss with a 6-2 win versus Clarence-Rockland.

In their final game of the series versus the Clarence-Rockland Sabres, the Blackhawks offence delivered and the team posted it's 10th win of the season. GO HAWKS GO!

    December 13th, 2007
Blackhawks defeat Blues 4-2 and take 3rd place!

This was the battle for 3rd place. Before this game, both teams had played 17 games and the Blues had a 1 point lead on the Blackhawks. While the Blues kept it close for a while and really surprised the Hawks with a superb shorthanded goal, in the end discipline was one of the main deciding factors (the Blues did get 28 penalty minutes) and the Blackhawks prevailed with a 4-2 win. GO HAWKS GO!
