2008 BOP SEASON
BOP welcomes Mad Dog Bats!!

As of today BOP decided to join forces with Mad Dog Bats.  So before you all decide to go buy new bats make sure you check in first and see whats up.   More details will follow!

Bro's O does some sweeping over weekend
West Warwick-  BOP swept a weekend series over Allies and Independence Bank with two very different outings.  On Saturday Phil Deezy and Costa outdueled Jackson Geary and former Bro Jamie DiGidio in a 2-1 barn burner.  Phil (4-0) worked the first 8 innings, he allowed 2 hits and struck out four.  Of the 24 outs Phillis recorded 16 were via the groundball.  Bro's scored 2 runs in the 4th which inevitability lead to the victory.  Rossi led off with a single then swiped second.  TK walked.  Reyes singled home Rossi.  With none out TK and Reyes executed a critical double steal to put runner at 2nd and 3rd.  With 1 down Jacko knocked in what turned out to be the winning run with an RBI groundout.

The Sunday game was far different versus Independence Bank, the results were the same but the score was nothing like what had transpired some 24 hours earlier.  BOP broke open a 3-3 tie with 5 runs in the 4th then tacked on 5 more runs over the 6th and 7th to secure a 10 run mercy rule victory, 13-3.  Chris V scooped his first win of the season working 6 innings and allowing only 3 runs.  The offense was led by Costa, Naybits and JRo.  Costa had two hits, 4 RBI, 3 steals and a run scored.  Nayl's worked a 2-2 evening with 3 runs scored and a stolen bag.  JRo chipped in a 2 RBI double, 3 runs scored, and 3 steals.  Brother's Oven plays two mid week games against the Old Mt. Turcs and the EG Seawolves.  Both games will be played at the Bretherns alternate home field, Sprague in Narragansett.

BOP shuts down Seawolves, 7-0
Narragansett-  Lus and Nizzy combined on a five hit shutout as BOP defeated the EG Seawolves 7-0 on Thursday night at Sprague Field.  Lus dominated the first 8 innings, he allowed 5 hits while striking out a season high 12.  The lefty is now 2-0 on the season.  Bro's took advantage of some wildness by Seawolves pitching, they issued 7 walks and 5 hit batsmans.  Gren had 2 hits, a run scored and an RBI in the win.  Bobby continued his hot steak with a double and a run scored.  TK and TC both had a single in the contest.  Bro's weekend includes battles with both of last year's RIABL finalist, Allies Donuts and Independence Bank (formally Cianti's Restaurant).  Both games will be home games at McCarthy Stadium.

Davidson and Gelsomino pitch Bro's past Westcott
Cranston- Brother's Oven bounced back after losing three of their last four games with a victory over Westcott Properties 7-3.  Phillis D started for Bro's and ran his record to a perfect 3-0.  Phil went 6 strong, scattering 7 hits and striking out 7.  Gels picked up the three inning save, his second of the season.  BOP got on the board with three in the 1st and added three more in the second.  Digi, Connell, and Nay-Bits had RBI's in the first.  Connell also chipped in a RBI in the 4th to pad the lead.  TK went 3-5 with a run scored and two stolen bags in the victory.  Rossi walked three times and had 5 steals.  BOP makes one of several trips to the Mosquito Dome (Sprague Field) in Narragansett on Thursday night to battle the East Greenwich Seawolves for the first time this season.  Bro's 5-3 early season record has them in a 3rd place tie with the Seawolves.

BOP singles the Capitals to Death
West Warwick-  Brother's Oven banged out 11 hits, all singles, and allowed only one hit en route to a 12-0 victory over the Providence Capitals.  Digi continued his torrid start to the year by going 3-3 with 3 RBIs.  For the year Bobby is 6 for 6 with 4 RBI.  Reyes, NTrain, and Nay collected 2 hits apiece.  Both of Nay's singles were for RBIs.  Gels picked up the victory in a scorers decision in his Brother's Oven debut, he worked the first 3 innings striking out 3 and allowing 0 hits.  Lus, BK, and Urs rounded out the one hitter.  BOP has a early season test this coming weekend as they battle Allies Donuts in a three game set.  The first game will be Saturday night at McCarthy.  Bro's then travels to Lischio for a Sunday afternoon double dip.  Coachal has announced the rotation for the weekend, Phil Deezy gets the nod Saturday, Chris V and Lus get the call on Sunday.

Bro's O wins Opener 12-3
South Kingstown-  Brother's Oven staged a successful return to the RIABL with an impressive 12-3 win over the Old Mt. Turcs in their season opener on Wednesday night.  Bro's trailed 3-1 entering the 3rd inning but took a 4-3 lead in the top of the frame and never looked back.  The potent BOP attack was a group effort.  Of the 15 players that had an at-bat in the game, each and every one had at least a hit, a run, or a RBI.  The BOP offense was led by a three hit performance from Digi, one of which was a solo blast over the right center field fence to lead off the 8th.  In addition to his 3 hits, Digi also had 3 runs scored.  Hevy and T. Cole were also proud members of the 1.000 batting average club after the opener.  Hev a 3-3 and Cole a 2-2 day, both also logged an RBI.  OC homered in the game as well.  Phil Deezy picked up the win going 5 2/3 of middle relief.  Phil struck out 11 while allowing 3 hits in his outing.  BOP enters one of many eventful weekends on the season, Saturday they finish up an early season two game series with the Turcs at Cranston West then host their home opener on Sunday night at McCarthy versus the Providence Capitals.

Game Notes: Costa, Koch, Reyes, OC, Jimmy, Digi, Hevy, Jacko, JRo, Gren, and TC all had a RBI.....TK and Jimmy had a steal.....BOP banged out 17 hits.

Brother's Oven Announces return to the Rhode Island Amateur League
Warwick-  In a written statement Brother's Oven manager Gerry Marzilli announced late Thursday evening that his team will withdraw from the Sunset League of Newport and return to its roots in the Rhode Island Amateur Baseball League.  BOP staged a successful season in its one and only Sunset League appearance losing a hard fought three game championship series to the defending champion Towndock Mariners.  BOP left the RIABL after winning the 2004 and 2006 championships, coupled with a runner up finish in 2005 they were finalist in their last three seasons in the RIABL.  In his statement Marzilli confirmed the rumors BOP would make the switch.  Marzilli wrote, "Yes, we are returning to the RI Amateur League for the '08 season".  He added, "The RIABL is a 28 game schedule over 12 weeks, with the AABC Tourney as a goal, plus the Albany Trip and a visit by Albany, with playoffs 40+ games".  Brother's Oven qualified for three straight regional tournaments, one in Connecticut and two in Massachusetts, over their final three seasons in the RI Amateur League.  It was also noted that BOP will play their home games at the friendly confines of McCarthy Stadium, arguably the best stadium in Rhode Island not named McCoy.  Brother's Oven previously held their home games at Mickey Stevens C field in Warwick.

2007 BOP SEASON
Brother's Oven sweeps into 1st Sunset League Final
Newport-  Brother's Oven qualified for three straight Rhode Island Baseball Championship series, they took home two of the three championships.  In their first season in the Sunset League, the league and the venue has changed.  But for the fourth straight season Bro's O will be one of the two teams vieing for their league championship.  In a game that stretched over two days because of a "fog out", BOP defeated R&R Legion 6-2 earning a two games to none series sweep over the #2 seed.  Lus started on the mound and gave BOP 5 2/3 of solid pitching before the fog rolled in and ended his outing. He scattered 7 hits and gave up only 2 runs.  Bro's got on the board early thanks to a Jimmy Connell double to lead off the 2nd and a fielding miscue on an NTrain grounder to 2nd, the throw was wild and Jimmy was able to score to get BOP out on top 1-0.  With the game tied at 1-1 in the top of the 5th Bro's played small ball, Cole led off with a single and Rossi reached on an error.  With no out Costa bunted Cole and Rossi up a base, Nay followed the sacrifice with one of his own, this of the fly variety as he lifted a ball to medium right.  It had plenty on it to score Cole from third.  With the fog rolling in, R&R tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the 6th.  Immediately after the run scoring double to tie the game the umpires halted the action and it was scheduled to resume the following night.

After Brother's Oven went down in order in the 6th, they exploded for 4 runs with two outs in the 7th.  Rossi started it with a seed double to left center, Costa singled him home, Nay reached on an throwing error that Costa scored from first on, and Jimmy concluded the out burst with a ringing 2 RBI double off the fence in right center.  If Costa's RBI single and hustle scoring play was the frosting, his 3 1/3 relief work and victory on the mound was the cake.  In relief of Lus, Costa allowed only 1 base hit and no runs to pick up the victory and send BOP to the finals where they will meet the defending Sunset League champions, the Towndock Mariners and the salty veteran Cliff Peasley.  Game One on Tuesday night at Cardines will pit the grizzled one, Peasley, versus Brother's Oven own Cy Young candidate Chris Visinho.

Series Notes:  Connell 5-8, 3 2B, 5 RBIs, 5 R......Costa 1W, 4-9, 3 RBI, 3 R.....Nay 4 RBI.....Rossi 2 2B, 4 R......Chris V 1W

Late outburst propels Brother's Oven to Semi's win 17-10
Newport-  Brother's Oven scored 12 runs over the final two innings to pad a 5-3 lead and win Game 1 of their semifinals series 17-10 versus R&R Legion.  Chris V. kept R&R at bay, limiting them to 3 runs on 7 hits over the first 7 innings to earn the victory.  Bro's got on the board in the 2nd with a Hevy RBI single to center scoring Jimmy Connell.  James had singled earlier in the innings and moved to second on a past ball.  BOP added to the lead in the 3rd, Rossi hit a missle double to left center and came around to score on a Nay single.  R&R tied the game in the 4th with the benefit of only one single out of the infield.  Bro's broke the tie in the 6th.  Jimmy and Hevy both drew walks, with two outs pinch hitter Jacko singled to score Jimmy.  Tommy Cole followed up the Jacko single with one of his own that scored Hevy. BOP tacked on another run in the 7th to take the 5-2 lead.  R&R answered with a run of their own to make the score 5-3.  Bro's scored 6 runs in the 8th, Nay had a 2 RBI double, Digi an RBI single, Jimmy an RBI double and Hevy another run scoring single.  BOP rolled another 6 in the 9th, Costa had a 2 RBI double, Digi brought in a run by a hit by pitch, Jimmy had a 2 RBI double.  R&R did add 7 runs over the final two innings but they fell short in their rally attempt.  BOP leads the series 1-0, Game 2 will be played on Saturday night at Cardines Field.  The Towndock Marines won the other semifinal series two games to none over R&R Construction.  They won their series on Friday night with an 11-9 victory.  They await the winner of the Brother's Oven and Legion series in the championship.

Game Notes:Rossi 3R.....Costa, Digi, Hevy, and Tommy Cole 2 RBI a piece.....Jimmy 3-4, 2BB, 3 RBI.......Chris V. (1-0) 7IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 hits, 3 K

Sinacola dominates, BOP moves into Semi-Finals with 8-3 Win
Newport-  Joe Sinny fired 8 innings, scattering 6 hits, and striking out a season high 17 Horan hitters enroute to a 8-3 quarterfinals victory on Tuesday evening.  Bro's got out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  Digi led off the inning with the walk, Jimmy did the same, the NTrain followed by knocking in Dig with a single to right.  Hevy walked and would later score on a Rossi single.  Tommy Cole had the other RBI in the inning on a ground out to the shortstop.  With Sinny cruising, BOP increased the lead to 7-0 in the 4th.  With 1 away, JRo, Cole, and Rossi all singled, Costa then doubled to the gap and two runs scored.  Nay added an RBI ground out and Jimmy singled home a run to conclude the scoring for the inning.  Sinny continued to cruise untill Horan managed a three run 8th against him.  It was too little too late.  The damage had been done offensively and Sinny had struck out 17 Horan hitters in the victory.  Nizzy finished off the win with a scoreless inning of work.  With the win Brother's Oven moves on to face former BOP member Sid Cirella and the #2 seeded R&R Legion team on Thursday.  Both teams finished with identical records but R&R won the tie breaker because of their record against the #1 seed the Towndock Mariners.  Towndock with play R&R Construction in the other semi final.

Rossi and Costa led the squad plating 3 runs a piece while combining for 5 hits.  Rook Jeff Beliveau had a 3 for 4 day at the plate, while Garret Grenier had a day going 2-3  with a run scored.
The Bro's pitching staff shut out Horan while only allowing 2 hits all game.
Nizzy got the nod going 3 innings with 5 K's , Bruce "The Boss" Celico was brought in for mid relief and Jeff Beliveau came in to finish the game off in the 6th.

BOP falls to Town Dock
Jared Rossi who had the only extra base hit in the game for Bro's scored the only run of the game as well, in the first inning.  From that point on Bro's was limited to just 6 singles throughout the game due to excessive salty perservearance from veteran Cliff Peasley of Town Dock.
Staying hot with 2 singles each were Bobby Dilibero and Nick Marzilli

Seven Run 8th inning rally lifts BOP 7-5
Newport- Bro's fell behind R&R Legion 3-0 early but rallied with an 7 spot in the 8th inning to swipe the victory.  For the second time in the last two ball games, BOP batted around in an inning and scored enough runs to preserve a win.  Tommy Cole led off the 8th with a single and with two outs Rossi, Costa, Nay, Digi, and Jimmy all reached base without the benefit of a basehit, before Roberts layed the big blow with a 3 RBI base clearing double into the right field gap.  Bruce "The Boss" Celico tossed 2.2 IP in relief to earn his first BOP victory in his first outing.  Costa came into the game in the 8th with the tying run in the on deck circle to pick up his first career BOP save.  R&R threatened in the 9th, with the tying run on first base, before Costa recorded the final out on a line drive to Roberts in left field.

The 26ers are a newly formed team in the league, not knowing much about them the defending state champs look to warmly welcome them into the league. BOP enters their 5th season in the RIABL coming off a 23-7-1 campaign, including an undefeated 6-0 post season. Brothers Oven is looking to defend their championship this year with their returning nucleus plus a few talented additions adding to an already potent lineup/pitching staff. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the ballpark, parking lot, and Bro's this season.
