Express Wins Tournament for Local Bragging Rights November to Remember 2008
Game Winning Recap!!
In this USSSA tournament, the Central Coast Express played exceptionally well to truimph over a field of talented local rivals. The championship game was won in dramatic fashion on a pinch hit by emerging first year talent Jamie.
Pitching in her first 14u championship game with Express, Dani shutdown the opposing batters and kept the Express in the game with another dominant pitching performance. The game was tied 1-1 and with time expiring the Express team had the bottom half of the inning to score or face a tie-breaker to decide the championship
The emotionally charged final bottom half-inning opened with a base hit by Jocelyn. Jocelyn hit a ball deep to the hole at shortstop and hustled down the line to beat the throw. Rachel then singled putting runners on first and second.
In another one of Coach Tom's insightful moves, Jamie was called upon to pinch hit.
The opposing team then made a move of their own. The eventual losers of the tournament chose to replace the starting pitcher, who had held the powerful Express lineup to only one unearned run. Jamie exhibited nerves of steel as she waited for the new pitcher to finshing warming up, so she could have her at bat. After a wild pitch allowed the runners to move to 2nd and 3rd, Jamie hit the walk off single to centerfield. Jamie's singled scoring pinch runner Breanna for the winning run with Rachel on her heels in case a third run would have been needed. Jamie's clutch hit earned the Express 14u its first Tournament Championship of the year.
