Fall Season FAQ's
FALL SEASON ~ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How do I register for the Fall season, how much is registration this year, and what does it include? Registration for the Fall 2008 season is now closed. Registration for the Fall 2009 season will open April 15, 2009.

2. How old does my son/daughter need to be to cheer for CYA? As long as they are age 5 by Sept. 1, 2008 ~ they can cheer for CYA!

3. How many times a week is cheer practice? Normally the squads practice 2 times per week BEFORE school begins in September. However, the youngest squads sometimes have one practice per week for one hour once school begins. Practice times are set by the individual coaches. The older squads may even practice 3 times a week.

4. Who are the Coaches, and are they trained? Our coaches are all volunteers, and most of them are parents of cheerleaders on the squads. All of our coaches are AACCA safety certified; and most are NCA certified as well.

5. Who do the cheerleaders cheer for - and where? Our CYA cheerleaders cheer for our CYA football players! All games are played on local fields, and usually are held on Saturday’s. Every once in a while there could be a Sunday game; or Friday evening game.

6. Are there any other events they cheer for? YES! We have several events they cheer for throughout the season - the Chantilly High School Homecoming Parade, CYA’s annual SPIRIT DAY in October, Performance Day in November, and a cheer clinic hosted by the Chantilly High School cheerleaders! We also do a few fundraising activities as well.

7. Can my daughter cheer for my son’s CYA football team? Our squads are sorted by age, and if your daughter is near the same age/grade as your son, then we usually can accommodate that. However, if the age/grade spread between them is 3+ years, we are not able to honor that request. We do our best to honor every request we can.

8. When does the season actually begin and end? Our season ’kick off’ is at the July 28- Aug. 1 CYA Cheer Camp! Practices will begin a week after CHEER CAMP, and the first actual football games will be right after Labor Day. The games normally go all the way to end of October. If, however, the football team your daughter/son cheers for makes it to the ’playoffs’, they actually could be cheering through the end of November. So the season goes from mid-August to mid-November (possibly end-November).

9. Do you need more cheer coaches? YES, YES, YES! We are always looking to have more coaches! We will train and certify you. Email Cheerleading@ChantillyYouth.org if you are interested!
10. How can I stay informed of CYA Cheer information? You should monitor this site; and you could also be on our mailing list for our ’In Touch" Newsletter! Simply us at Cheerleading@ChantillyYouth.org and request to be on our mailing list.

11. What do I do if we are interested in the CYA Cheer Select program? Please visit our website at www.CheerSelect.com.

If you have further questions, email us and let us know!

Cheers!

Meet the CYA Cheer Leadership Team!

The sport of cheerleading has come a long way in the past several years, providing many new opportunities for kids. CYA Cheer has jumped on that train and in the past five years we have doubled our registration; are offering our 5th annual summer cheer camp; held our first Spring Break cheer camp; and are now entering our fourth year running the largest youth recreation competition cheer program ~ Cheer Select ~ in Northern Virginia!

Please join me in celebrating the commitment and dedication to our CYA Cheer Leadership team:

Nicole Dudas ~ Assistant Program Director
Nicole celebrates her fourth year with CYA Cheer and is not only the head coach of Cheer Select's FORCE squad, but is our lead choreographer for Cheer Select's five teams. Nicole also holds the position of design and management of our Summer and Spring Break camps. Along with these responsibilities, Nicole is in charge of coach training and workshops, covering both the design and implementation.

Toni Lightfoot ~ Program Director
Toni celebrates her 7th year coaching with CYA cheer and her fifth year as Program Director and is the head coach for Cheer Select SPARKLE. She overseas both the Fall season and Winter competition season, as well as enters now her second term/third year on the CYA Board of Directors.

Tracy Rickard ~ Assistant Program Director
Tracy has been with the cheer program now for six years, serving first as a coach and then giving her time and expertise managing all elements of apparel and design, uniforms and uniform design, and production, as well as supplemental apparel sales and budget. Tracy manages this division, and is instrumental in the oversight and evaluation of both the Fall Season cheer and Winter [competition] Cheer Select.

All of our coaches and staff have a profound commitment to CYA Cheer and we will continue our dedication to your children. We thank you for your unrelenting support to this program!
