GUIDE TO PARENT-COACH RELATIONSHIP
March 22, 2007 --
GUIDE TO PARENT-COACH RELATIONSHIP
Parent/Coach Relationship
Both parenting and coaching are extremely difficult vocations. By establishing an understanding of each position, we are better able to accept the actions of the other and provide greater benefits to the children. As parents, when your son becomes involved in our athletic program, you have the right to understand what expectations are placed on our athletes. This begins with clear communication from our coaching staff.
Communication You Should Expect From Your Son’s Coach
• Philosophy of the coach
• Expectations the coach has for your child
• Location and times of all practices and games
• Team requirements
• Procedure should your child be injured during participation
• Discipline that could result in the denial of your child’s participation
Communication Coaches Expect From Parents
• Concerns expressed directly to the coach
• Notifications of any schedule conflicts well in advance
• Specific concern in regard to a coach’s philosophy and/or expectation
When your child chooses to participate in a sport, sacrifices are often made. This holds true for parents as well. It is extremely important that family vacations not be scheduled when your child is in season as practices and games may be scheduled during school vacations.
When your son becomes a part of the Chicago Clubbers Program, he will experience some of the most rewarding experiences of his life. It is important that you understand that there also may be times when things do not go the way you and your son wish. At these times, discussion with the coach is encouraged.
Appropriate Concerns to Discuss with Your Son’s Coach
• The treatment of your son-mentally and physically
• Ways to help your son improve
• Concerns about your son’s behavior
It is very difficult to accept your son’s lack of playing time. Coaches try to be professional. They make judgment decisions based on what they believe to be best for all athletes involved. As you have seen from the list above, certain things can and should be discussed with your son’s coach. Other things, such as those described below, must be left to the discretion of the individual coach.
Some Issues Not Appropriate to Discuss with Coaches
• Playing time
• Team Strategy
• Play Calling
• Other Student Athletes
There are situations that may require a conference between a coach and a parent. It is important that both parties involved have a clear understanding of the other’s position. When a conference is necessary, the following procedure should be followed to help promote a resolution to the issue:
• Your son should first talk with the coach about his concerns
• The parent should call to set up an appointment with a coach
• Please do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a game or practice. These can be emotional times for both the parent and the coach. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution (please take a full 24 hours to vent and then set up an appointment).
• If the meeting with your son’s coach does not provide satisfactory resolution, a full refund will be granted (minus the $150.00 non refundable fee).
YES I COPIED THIS POLICY FROM A HIGH SCHOOL. I LIKE WHAT IT RELATED AND THE CHICAGO CLUBBERS ADOPTED IT!

Tomorrow's Practice Game
March 22, 2007 --
Hey Clubbers,
I received some e-mails from Clubbers unable to attend tonight, and I just want to let everybody know that the uniform we are wearing Friday will be Black under shirt (short or long sleeve is fine), Stripped vest, Black pants (do not forget your belts!), Black socks, Cup&Cap! and gym shoes. Please remember to bring a water bottle and equipment bag! Make a checklist for the season and throw it in your bag. Get into a habit of checking your checklist before every game. If you are late for the practice game you will lose playing time, so please be at the Max in McCook, IL. no later then 6:15pm. Directions can be found on our Directions menu button, just click on it and look for Max, McCook, IL.
Thanks,
Coach Ruben

Chicago Clubbers Commitment (CCC)
January 29, 2007 --
Hey Clubbers,
I would like to remind all Clubbers that during the month's of April and May all Clubbers practices and games come first. Some Clubbers will be participating with other school baseball teams and that is fine we do not want to discourage any Clubbers from participating. We just want to remind our Clubbers that we made a commitment to the Clubbers first.
If you are going to participate with a school team let me know what team, and game/practice days. Also, let your school team manager know when you are signing up that you are in travel ball and let him know the commitment you made to travel ball. This will eliminate any problems with your school team not knowing why you did not show up for a game or practice.
I encourage the Clubbers to participate with school teams, but I also have to prepare and field a team. In order for the Clubbers to compete at the travel ball level we must take this commitment serious and place travel ball first. I have purposely scheduled all our tournaments and weekend morning games after May 24th. This should prevent any interference with the Clubbers schedule and School teams schedule. I think that is more then fair and hope the school teams acknowledge our cooperation.
Thanks, Go Bears!

Team announcement
October 16, 2006 --
Hey Clubbers,
Sorry for not having the team posted. I do have to say it is very hard to pick out of all the talent that tried out. Please remember that I am going to pick the team that I feel has the best chance to win. This is travel ball and I am doing everything I possibly can to make it fair. I wish I could have taken every kid because I really mean what I told the boys, and that is that every single one of them has talent and not to give up on their dreams. I REALLY MEAN THAT.
I have to make some calls and double check on whether some kids are commited or not. I have not been able to reach everybody but when I do I will post the team by tonight.
Sorry,
Coach Ruben

From Waukesha: Take I-94 east to Miller Park.

Communication
June 26, 2006 --
Hey Clubbers,
My home phone is out of service. AT&T is having a service problem in my area and my phone only rings once then cuts off????? I apologize if you are having a hard time getting a hold of me. I also have the bad timing of being in training this whole week which means I have to have the cell phone off from 7am-12pm and 1pm-4pm. If you have any questions or problems call Lynn @ 480-5094.

GAME DAY USA
NAPERVILLE FIRECRACKER CLASSIC
NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS
Revised: June 25, 2006
Policies and Procedures
Game Day USA tournament management will make every effort to treat all teams with fairness. If questions or disputes arise about policies and procedures, coaches shall bring them to the attention of the Tournament Director to be dealt with. The interpretation and decision of the Tournament Director shall be final.
Professional umpires have been assigned to each game. Coaches should treat them with respect. With regard to on-field calls, the decision of the umpires shall be final. One umpire has been assigned for pool games; two umpires have been assigned for playoff games.
Each team shall present a roster to the Tournament Director prior to their first game. Teams may not add players once the roster has been submitted. Rosters shall have no more than 20 players. Each roster must list the team name, team age, manager’s name and mobile phone number, player’s name, player’s uniform number, player’s age, and player’s birth date.
The birthday cutoff is May 1. Teams shall have player birth certificates readily available upon request of the Tournament Director. Questions of age eligibility shall be brought to the attention of the Tournament Director. Such matters will be investigated and resolved as quickly as possible. A team found using an ineligible player will forfeit all games the ineligible player played. The forfeit score shall be 7-0 for tiebreaker purposes.
Teams shall arrive on site 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. If the previous game finishes early, teams may be asked to begin play earlier than scheduled. If a team fails to field 8 uniformed players at game time, the Tournament Director may issue a forfeit victory. The team that wins the game by forfeit will be credited with a 7-0 victory for tiebreaker purposes.
The home team shall be determined by a coin flip prior to the game and will keep the official scorebook. The team that has traveled the greatest distance will call the flip. Either an umpire or a member of tournament management must be present for the flip. The coin flip will continue throughout the playoffs.
There will be no infield practice. Teams are allowed the play catch in the outfield area if the time allows. Never do flip drills into fences or step on foul lines.
The home team shall report the final score to the Tournament Director immediately following each game. The visiting team must verify the final score with the home team to prevent any mistakes.
If a tiebreaker is needed to determine playoff teams, the following tiebreakers shall be used:
a. Overall won-lost record
b. Head-to-head record
Least number of runs allowed throughout the tournament
Run differential
Coin flip
The Tournament Director may modify the number or length of games when necessary due to weather, field, or scheduling issues. This includes modifying the time limit if games get backed up.
Playing Rules
The official playing rules for the tournament shall be the NFHS (high school) rules with the following exceptions:
Extra Players
Teams will use a continuous batting order. This means all players in uniform (unless injured) must be in the batting order.
If a team has 12 or more players present, they must bat 12. There is no penalty for having less than 12. If a team has less than 12 players present and an additional player arrives late, that player must be inserted into the last spot in the batting order.
If one of the teams has less than 12 batters to start the game, the other team has the option of matching the same number of batters. This “mirror rule” prevents teams with a larger roster from playing at a disadvantage.
If a team has more than 12 players present, they have the option of batting as many players as they want. If a team chooses to start a game batting more than 12, they must finish the game batting the same number of players they started the game batting.
There is free substitution among the players listed on the batting order. There is no designated hitter.
Pitching Limitations
The ultimate responsibility of managing pitch counts and innings pitched rests with the team’s manager. No pitcher may pitch more than 10 innings total during the tournament (age 13) or 7 innings total during the tournament (ages 10-12). One pitch is considered an inning. A team found using an ineligible pitcher will forfeit all games the ineligible pitcher pitched. The forfeit score shall be 7-0 for tiebreaker purposes. Each manager must maintain a pitching log for his pitchers (provided by event management) and get it signed by the opposing managers.
Bat Restrictions
In age divisions 10-13, aluminum, graphite, ceramic, magnesium, wood or composition bats are permitted.
Time Limits
The start time shall begin with the first pitch. The home plate umpire or his designee shall keep the official time. All pool, quarterfinal and third place games shall have a 1 hour and 45 minute time limit. Once an inning starts, it must be completed. The official time is ended when the third out of the bottom of the inning is recorded.
The Tournament Director reserves the right to modify the time limit for pool games in the event of weather or scheduling issues.
There is no time limit in the semifinals and championship games (unless the Tournament Director deems it necessary due to weather or scheduling issues).
Mercy Rules
15 runs after 3 innings
10 runs after 4 innings
8 runs after 5 innings
Tie Games
If a game is tied after the time limit expires or when the regulation 7 innings have been completed, we will use the following tiebreaker:
Each team will start the inning with a man on second base and 0 outs. The base runner will be the last batted out from the previous inning. Each batter will start with a 1-1 count. There will be one extra inning. If the game is still tied, it shall be recorded as a tie.
Intentional Walks
There will be no pitches thrown to intentionally walk a batter. Notify the umpire, and the batter will be awarded first base.
Courtesy Runners
Courtesy runners are optional at any time for the pitcher and catcher. The courtesy runner shall be a player not currently in the lineup OR the last batted out. The pitcher or catcher for this rule is the pitcher or catcher of the previous inning.
Ejections
If a player is ejected during a game, the name of the player will remain in the batting order and count as an out when the batting order reaches that player. If a player or coach is ejected from a game, he will serve a one game suspension. The suspension must be for the next game the team plays.
Injuries
If a player becomes injured (as ruled by the umpire) and is unable to continue playing, his spot in the batting order shall be skipped with no penalty. Once the injured player leaves the batting order, he is done for the remainder of that game.
Refund Policy
If an event is cancelled due to inclement weather, refunds will be issued as follows:
0 games played: Full credit towards a future Game Day USA event either later in 2006 or in 2007.
1 game played: Half credit towards a future Game Day USA event either later in 2006 or in 2007.
2 games played: No refunds
Withdrawal: Any withdrawal within 2 weeks of the first day of the event is non-refundable.

Dear Coaches,
The Wisconsin Youth Sports Association would like to welcome you to our 9th annual Cheese Head Challenge WI vs. IL Youth Championship Tournament. This year’s tournament like in years past plans on being both challenging and competitive. Sixty (64) teams in six (6) age divisions will be participating and battling for the championship title of crowning themselves “ The Big Cheese Champion”. Since its beginning the W.Y.S.A. has kept a running record of how many championships each state has won. There have been 45 championship games played in 8 years of the tournament. Currently, Illinois has won 28 championships to Wisconsin’s 17.
Information regarding tournament rules, directions to parks, schedules for parents and hotel information can be obtained on our web site at www.wysabaseball.com . SE Wis. Park is now call New International Park (NI Park)
Official Roster: The official roster form must be completely filled out and returned prior to July 6th. The information gathered on this form will help us if we need to get in contact with you.
How the tournament works: The tournament format runs in two parts. The first portion of the tournament are seeding games. You will play two games against teams from the other division. The results of these games determine where you are seeded and placed in your divisional bracket. Bracket play will be round 2 of the tournament. All teams are placed in the championship bracket. In the U-11, U-12, U-13 & U-14 age divisions this is a single elimination round. Any team in the age division listed above that loses will drop down and continue playing in the consolation bracket of the tournament. In the U-10 & U-15 age divisions the championship bracket will be double elimination. Teams must pay close attention to the tournament schedule so they do not miss a game.
Seeding of teams: Takes place Friday night. Coaches can find that information at the Racine Marriott site of our tournament HQ’s. The information will also be updated on our web site. We will also post the seeding results at the Brewer game. Teams can go to the courtesy desk located near home plate. Teams can also call the tournament hotline at 414-322-4736. Please be advised that there will be no returned phone calls teams must continue to call until they get through.
In the event of rain or lightning on Friday, games will be postponed for only 1 hour after the scheduled start time of each game. If after 1 hour the game does not begin then that game will be cancelled. The teams that were scheduled to play will meet with the tournament site coordinator and the coaches will flip a coin for the purposes of seeding. The final score will be recorded 1-0.
Park Sites: The following parks are going to be used in Milwaukee: Zablocki Park & Froemming Park, in Racine: Cliffside Park, Pritchard Park, Haban Park and SE Wis. Sports Park. Only NI Park (Formally SE Wis. Sports Park) will charge an admission. The cost is $3.00 per adult and $2.00 per child. Free Admission will be limited to team players and 3 coaches. SE Wis. Park also has a strict NO CARRY-IN’s Policy

Final Stretch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 24, 2006 --
Hey Clubbers,
We are entering the final stretch of our season. The next two weeks will test our team and the competition will be against some of the best teams in Illinois and Wisconsin. I feel we have made great strides forward and the Clubbers are on their way to being a competetive team within the NIML. We are finally earning some respect from these teams.
Clubbers I ask you within the next two weeks to think only baseball. Prepare yourself before games like hydrate, eat the right foods, and get enough rest.

Fathers Day Tournament
June 20, 2006 --
Thank You all for participating in the Father's Day Tournament this weekend and coming out for some great competition.
Please Thank your boy's and their families for taking the time to spend their weekend with us.
Congratulations to Bruce Crawford who won the split-the-pot with $101.00 for him.
Sunday's Games:
Darien Hornets took 1st place over the Tinley Park Bulldogs in a very competitive game that came down to the final out.
Will County Coyotes took 3rd place over the Frankfort Shock in a game that was played extremely well by both teams.
The Final Results were as follows:
Darien Hornets 1st Place
Tinley Park Bulldogs 2nd Place
Will County Coyotes 3rd Place
Frankfort Shock 4th Place
Congratulation's to all!
Manager's,
We try our best to put on a nice Tournament. Medals were given out for 4th-8th place. Most tournaments do not recognize you if your not in the top 2. We also made sure to get clean portable toilets. (J & P Sewer & Drain). We thought that most of the calls made by the Umpires were fair. It seems that no matter where you go you will not always agree with all the calls made. We thank you for letting the umpires be the judge. We did have a photographer taking pictures on Thursday and Friday night. The pictures were for sale on Saturday. If you or any of your parents missed viewing the photos and are interested in taking a look at purchasing them you can call Ultimate Action at (630-279-6536) www.ultimateactionsports.com They will be happy to send them to you to take a look.
Thank you for using our concession stand and participating in the split-the-pot raffle.
We tried to make sure the dugouts were clean for every game.
I do not smoke. However, today when I went up to sweep out the dugouts I had to pick up about six cigarette butts from the 1st base dugout on field #1. Please Manager's tell your coach's there is NO SMOKING allowed in the dugouts this is SCHOOL PROPERTY. Also, There is absolutely NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY. When visiting this facility please remember the parking is restricted to the parking lot. The people with tables, tents, & coolers for the concession stand were the only ones allowed to transport their things to the field.
Thank You again and enjoy the rest of your season.

April 17, 2006 - 03:30 PM --
Hey Clubbers,
Still working on getting a field for today's game. Summit Park is not in good shape so I tried our back up field at Minuteman Park and that is not any better. Vittum is being worked on by the Bombers and is not ready also. The coach for the Berwyn Bulldogs is working on getting a field and I will not know until 4:30pm on whether we will be playing out in Berwyn. Stay tuned and I will call everyone as soon as I find out. We will have practice at A.T. Bat (5pm 6535 S. Austin) if we do not have a game today.
Please bear with me,

Game Schedule Update
March 28, 2006 --
Good Mourning Clubbers,
The game schedule on the website will be updated by this weekend. I have a meeting tonight with the NIML and will finalize the schedule for the season. I know some games will be difficult for some families but please remember I to have a very tough schedule to keep. I have THREE kids in travel ball and I understand that parents can't make every game, it's just not possible. Please do not hesitate to find a ride with me or anybody else on the team if you are not able to drive your own son. Just remember I need every boy present at every game.
I know some of our boys will be playing in multiple leagues but remember we have been practicing since November as a team and we have a financial investment with this team as well. If your son is playing Clear-Ridge or CYO I need a schedule ASAP so I can prepare our games. These schedules I am requesting are important because this will tell me if we have to use caution using a pitcher who might have pitched in another league. I do not want to hurt a kids arm because he pitched in prior games and then have him pitch for the Clubbers on the same day. Please keep in mind that when your son is asked to pitch on another team to check first with Coach Ruben in case he is needed to pitch for the Clubbers. Folks please remember travel ball comes FIRST with any other travel team and as well with the CLUBBERS.
Oh, before I forget I need e-mail addresses, please e-mail Coach Ruben (Ruben2478@comcast.net)with your e-mail address ASAP. I will call the families that prefer to use the phone, but to make my life alittle easier e-mailing is less stressful.
Thanks,
Coach Ruben(Big Toe)

Memorial Day Tournament
March 20, 2006 - 12:00 PM --
Hi Folks,
Well I recieved a call today with an offer I could not refuse. The Schaumburg Seminoles have been very supportive about our inaugrual year growing pains. They really want the Clubbers to participate in their tournament the weekend of Memorial Day and have customized the tournament to fit our afternoon/evening demands, due to certain players playing in the CYO league. Friday's game will start after 6pm and Saturday's double header will start after 4pm (playing under the lights). Sunday's game will start after 3pm. It is a four game guarantee tournament and winners advance to Monday for the final. I hope this does not screw up family schedules and if you have plans set for the holiday please let me know as soon as possible. Folks, the facility is professional grade and the tournament has a reputation as being one of the best. If you have any problems with this tournament schedule, please let me know.
Thanks,
Big Toe

BASEBALLMANIA TICKETS !!!!!
March 17, 2006 --
Hey Clubber Parents,
Folks we have to get our tickets in. Please do not forget to hand in the stubs. I have additional tickets to sell. Please let's sell these tickets to help offset the cost of our equipment and umpire fees. I have spoke to other travel teams and usually by now they have all their fees paid up and fundraising done. I ask you to please let's get this stuff out of the way so we can concentrate on our season. Some families still owe their final payment, and if you owe for the Cubs tickets please hand your money in now (I have to pay my Visa or Lynn's going to hang me).
Rita Silva was kind enough to take on the "Clubber Wear" project please let's get our orders in by March 30th (Thanks Rita!).
I want to thank Joe Rich for taking time out from his spring break and giving our pitchers a hand. Joe 1 week and these kids look better thanks big guy, and good luck at Purdue.

Very Generous Donation!
February 23, 2006 --
Hey Folks,
The Clubbers have just received a very generous donation. A sponsor who wishes to be anonymous has donated Gatorade products. The donations should last us for the season. Some of the goodies include water coolers, water bottles and towels. Of course they threw in the Gatorade mix for our coolers. Thanks to our sponsor it is one less thing we have to buy. I want to wish our sponsor a very sincere thank you from the Clubbers organization.
Thank you!

SPIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 18, 2006 - 12:00 PM --
Hey Folks,
Spoke to Robert from Santos Sport Store and he is concerned that we only have 1/2 the team sized for spikes. Robert mentioned that some spikes he had to special order and he is worried that with all the other teams looking for spikes that we will have to wait even longer if we do not get in our order first. Parents please address this right-away. Robert is right and when I went to get Andy's spikes the other day there were two other teams asking for the same spikes we ordered. Obviously first come first serve, so that could have us waiting around for spikes to be re-stocked and that could take two weeks to 1 month. Please get your spikes NOW!
Thanks

February 6, 2006 - 05:00 PM --
Hey Folks,
I am having difficulty getting a count for the Cubs v. Brewers game, so instead of me calling in the order I will leave it up to everybody to call in their own request. Remember we are requesting tickets for the Friday night game July 7 at 7:05pm. Tickets are $20.00 and mention you are with the Chicago Clubbers. Ticket Availability is limited -CALL TODAY-. Tonight I will give every Clubber a packet which will contain; 1- Cubs flyer, 1- Hotel info and 1- Sponsor letter. Please read the info and act on it quickly. Time is our most precious commodity and I highly recommend to get this stuff out of the way so we can focus on a successful season.

Cheese Head Classic!!!!!!!!!
January 30, 2006 - 09:00 PM --
I received an e-mail regarding the Cheese Head Classic pertaining to the Chicago Cubs V. Milwaukee Brewers series. For those of you who are not aware the Cubs and Brewers will be playing against each other while we are participating in the Cheeshead Classic. The tournament people have set aside tickets to this series at County Stadium in Milwaukee for all tournament participants. Unfortunately, we have to order the tickets by this week. What I need the Clubbers to do is to call me ASAP and let me know whether or not you plan on attending this game. I was hoping that all the players and as many family members that want to attend will go to the Friday game which is July 7th and that way we can go as a team. The challenge will be to get an exact number of tickets for those interested by the end of the week. So, please let me know ASAP so I can forward this info to the tournament people. As far as I know, the cost of the tickets are $20. If this is not the correct cost, I will let everyone know otherwise. Thanks, and please call the house or e-mail me.

We Have Summit Park!
January 27, 2006 - 07:00 AM --
Starting in April we will have Summit Park for all our practices and games. We have a permit for Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 5pm-8pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9am-12pm. This does not mean we will be there every day available, this just means we have the permit to schedule games and practices for the dates and times. Sometime in February or March we the league will sit down and figure out our week schedule. Our home games will obviously be our Summit park times and dates. We may have some away games on Tuesday and Thursday, but I will try to have all our games on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Please remember to check the bulletin board and calendar for any changes! Oh, before I forget our tournaments that are paid and secured are, Cheesehead Classic, Naperville Firecracker Classic and Will County Fathers Day Classic(check out Calendar). Oh, and the Yorkville spring classic is our only tournament in April. That's 4 tournaments as mentioned. Now pending on our fundraiser we might be able to get into another tournament, but for now it's just the 4.....
