• Increase club membership
• Promote activities of Edinburgh’s sporting clubs
• Highlight range of sport activities on offer
• Raise profile of sport in Edinburgh
This years ‘Festival of Sport’ which will take place between 1st – 14th September has been recognised by the London 2012 Inspire programme which promotes innovative and exceptional projects directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The award of the Inspire Mark was made earlier in February by former Olympic, Commonwealth, European and World champion triple jumper Jonathan Edwards in Edinburgh (
article here). In 2012 we are looking to make things bigger and better than ever. A new marketing focus for clubs will see a more localised support to engage people with programme and event advertising.
We want your club!! Join in by hosting an event or simply opening your doors. We’ll be able to raise the profile of the Festival of Sport across Edinburgh and the East of Scotland!! More information to follow!!
Edinburgh Olympic Live Site - Activation
The London 2012 Olympic Games are coming to Edinburgh! Through partnership with the BBC, Edinburgh’s Festival Square on Lothian Road will play host to the Edinburgh Olympic Live Site as of Tuesday 1st May. The Big Screen which resides at Festival Square will be used to show various sporting events throughout May – September including Wimbledon, The Open Championship Golf, London 2012 Olympic Games among others. With this as the backdrop, we are laying an astro-turf carpet which we seek to ‘Activate’ with as many activities as possible to raise the profile of sport in Edinburgh! This activation will extend until the end of the Festival of Sport (14th September).
We will be engaging with the National Governing Bodies of Sport to coordinate some activities over this ‘activation period’, but we are keen to hear which clubs across the city are interested in getting involved. Whether it is putting on activities to promote the club or simply interest in attending, please let me know by return and I will keep you informed of progressions!!
More details will follow!!
