    NEWS AND NOTES
    A FEW UPDATES AND REMINDERS...

    • In and Out Valet is OUT. They forfeited for the third consecutive week which removes them from the League. It is too late to add a team for the remainder of the season. This means that if you still have Christo's/In and Out on your schedule, you have a BYE.

    • This brings up "The List". Anthony Nardolillo is first to be offered a team next year, followed by Matt Saballa, Brian Ranney, and Ken Kowalski.

    • THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! We have have had very few problems this year on and off the field and I appreciate that.

    • I still want to remind everyone DRINKING AT THE PUBLIC FIELDS IS ILLEGAL.

    • PLEASE DON'T SPEED THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOODS WHERE THE FIELDS ARE LOCATED (HUNTERS, RAVENWOOD).

    • NO PARKING ON THE STREET ALONG THE FIRST BASE LINE AT FLAT RIVER (WASH OAK).

    Meeting Results, 6/01/09
ADDITIONAL INFO: 6/2 Artie Spinard from Reko's called and asked that Jason MacDonald be removed from his roster. MacDonald is in his first year in the League and just found another League to play in. Artie has taken him off of the roster to avoid the penalties of having an illegal player. MacDonald was informed of the rules of our League and chose to leave at this time for another League.

    RESULTS, 6/1
-Umpire money was returned to the League for games that only had one umpire.
    -Stats were turned in.
-Umpires were discussed and rules were clarified.

-REMINDER - You MUST announce courtesy runners before the game. If an injury happens during the game then you made add to the list.
-Also, GROUND RULES MUST be done before every game with the umpires.

-On the Roch's requested the ability to add 4 or 5 players. Five players have been removed from the team, four players are injured and have played less than 4 games this year, and one other might quit. This leaves the team with 9 players. Of that 9, two have to leave early for work. This issue was discussed, a motion was made, and the motion passed to allow On the Roch's to add 4 or 5 players, no exempt players, and they must pay the league fee and fill out a waiver.

-CCFD also asked to add one player because another player could no longer play. Due to the rotating schedule of the department, there is a week where the team only has 9 players. The issue was discussed, a motion made, and Scott Tucker will replace Ray Gervais on the roster. Waiver turned in and fee paid.
-Umpire checks were distributed for the month of June.
-NEXT MEETING WILL BE JUNE 29, 7:00 AT THE PNA.

    MEETING RESULTS, 2/09/09

-14 OUT OF 16 TEAMS ATTENDED
-The transition of officers that happened over the winter was discussed.
-List of names on the waiting list for teams was read and is as follows:
    1. PSC - Charlie Sprague, W.W.
    2. Christo's Pizza
    3. Anthony Nardolillo
    4. Matt Saballa
    5. Brian Ranney
    6. Ken Kowalski

-This year's insurance was discussed, including a possible increase in coverage.
-Mark Moore discussed our by-laws with an attorney and a union president. He presented the flaws in our existing laws and proposed several solutions. These solutions can be found at left in the section labelled "By-law EDIT".
-Possible revisions to the exemption rule were also discussed. A proposal was made to edit the by-law and can be found in the section labelled "By-law EDIT".

-Every manager was asked to read through revisions before next week's meeting. This will allow us to have an educated conversation on the by-laws. If each manager fully understands the proposed changes, we can have a productive meeting on Monday.

-The season will start on April 19th. Field permits have been filled out and are being processed by the Parks and Recreation Department.
-A vote will be made at a later date on playing the weekend of July 4th. July 4th is a Saturday so the vote will be to play on Sunday July 5th. Contact your manager with your vote.
    - Starting on 4/19, and not playing on 7/4, the regular season will end on 8/2 followed by three weeks of playoffs.
-A vote was taken on this year's game balls. We will use the same ball that was used last year: TRUMP .375 .44
-Artie Spinard asked about the eligibility of his former player Derek Lessard. Lessard played in the league for several years but did not play last year due to work as an umpire. Artie asked that Lessard return to the League as a non-exempt player. A vote was taken and failed. In order for Lessard to play in the League this year he must be marked exempt 2009 and serve three years for that team.
-Club Jogues placed Dave Reeves on the Disabled List for 2009. Reeves will be allowed to return to the League in 2010 without playing a game in 2009.
-A Game of the Week was discussed for 2009 and will be further discussed at future meetings.

-NEXT MEETING NEXT MONDAY 2/16, 7:00 AT THE PNA. DEPOSITS OF $100.00 CAN BE TURNED IN. THE FULL LEAGUE FEE CAN ALSO BE TURNED IN ($350.00 FOR RETURNING TEAMS) CHECKS TO BE MADE OUT TO: COVENTRY MEN'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE

    Meeting Results 3/2/09

-14 out of 15 teams attended
-Deposits were paid by all returning teams. Harris Bar and Grille will not be returning.
-PASC will be called and offered the spot.
-Last's years ball (.375, .44) is no longer being made so a new ball had to be voted on. We will use the Dudley .400, .44
-By-law 3, C which had been tabled was finally agreed upon: In the event of a tie, any motion being voted on will be solved by a coin flip.
-Last year's by-laws 12-14 were approved without change.
-By-law 15 was changed to read that not having enough players at a game is a forfeit.
-By-laws 16-37 were approved without change.

-Fields were then decided for this year.
Changes were Moulton to Ravenwood from Nike Site
Del Padre (now called Doorley Insurance) to Nike Site from Club Jogues
CCFD to Club Jogues from Fish Hill
On the Roch's to Fish Hill from 12:00 Foster
New team will get 12:00 Foster or they can play at Club Jogues at 12:00

-The schedule was then finalized. We will NOT play on July 5th after a vote.
-Then a Labor Day vote was taken. If the regular season needs to be played on September 6, we will play. That would require 5 rainouts. If the playoffs are to played on Labor Day, the eight playoff teams will vote before playoffs begin whether to play or not. This would require 2, 3, or 4 rainouts.

-The schedule will be made this week by Ian Smith. One request was approved that VFW and CCFD play the first week of the season because the MS Society will attend to make a presentation and receive checks from last year's Coventry Turkey Trot. CCFD made a large donation and VFW requested their presence at the presentation.

-NEXT MEETING NEXT WEEK 3/9 TO DISCUSS INSURANCE AND PLAYER FEES

    Meeting Results 3/16/09
14 out of 16 teams attended

    AGENDA FOR MEETING
    1. Secretary and Treasurer reports - read and accepted

    2. Old business - USSSA State Director Brian Cipolla owed $320 for last year's fall ball registrations. Mr. Cipolla paid the registration fees for us and the League was just informed. Motion made and passed to reimburse.

-Balls were once again discussed. The Worth is a softer ball than the TRUMP and there should be a difference this year.

-If game balls are lost, USSSA stamped ball must be used. Game balls must be saved and collected by managers to create a bank of balls to be used to replace lost game balls. Please turn game balls in to your manager at the completion of games. We need these used balls to replace lost game balls in future weeks.

    3. League fee paid and acceptance of Christo's - Christo's was unable to send a representative and called to inform. Motion made and passed to accept Christo's pending minimum $100 deposit paid before 3/22.

    4. Insurance information and vote - Insurance information was passed out and explained. Motion made and passed that teams buy individual insurance if they so choose.

    5. Player fee set - After analysis of anticipated operating costs and anticipated income, the player fee was set at $40 per player.

    6. Hunter's Crossing - Information on website, please try to help out.

    7. Harris exempts - Review of what happens with former Harris players. Those who were vested player can be picked up freely. Those who were exempt must have exemption used on them by new team and fulfill the remainder of time owed to Harris. Specifically, Nate Facker must fulfill 3 year contract if picked up on a team that finished lower than Harris in regular season standings last year.

    8. Website - Reminder to keep information appropriate.

    9. New business - CCFD requested a roster of 22 versus our by-law maximum of 21. The CCFD is comprised of all firefighters. They have 9 guys on the same shift and would only have 12 available on the weeks that shift must work Sunday morning. The 22nd guy adds depth and reduces the risk of forfeits. Motion made and passed to allow CCFD 22 player on roster.

-Next meeting April 13th!!! Thanks to all managers for their attendance and focus at our preseason meetings. I know they have been longer than normal but we have completed everything necessary to enjoy the summer. Thanks again!

April 13 - Every waiver, player fee, and entrance fee is due at this meeting. Game balls and umpire checks will be passed out. Meeting is mandatory for managers. No one will play 4/19 without waiver and player fee turned in to the League.

    10. Meeting Adjourned

-V.P. report = WE CAN NO LONGER PARK ON THE STREET AT FLAT RIVER. PARKS AND REC. INFORMED US OF THIS LAST WEEK AND THIS WEEKEND THEY PASSED OUT WRITTEN WARNINGS. WRITTEN WARNINGS WILL BE REPLACED BY ACTUAL TICKETS AND TOWS SOON.

    Meeting Results, 5/4/09
    -Secretary report waived
    -Treasurer report read
-Umpires were discussed, so far everyone has had two umpires at every game and only a few problems have come up
-Stats are being turned in on time and meetings can be held once a month
-Home Runs - you must touch first base when hitting a home run.
-SOFTBALLS - As of September 1, 2009, USSSA requires the use of a .40 core, .375 compression ball. We purchased balls for Fall Ball already and they are not to those specifications. The balls purchased for Fall Ball have been sold as the "EXTRA" orders people put in earlier. The money they paid will be used to buy the proper balls for Fall.
-Uniform colors were announced to see if there would be any problems and make arrangements for match-ups with common colors
-Safety bases were discussed. A few teams in the League have purchased the safety bases for first base. There was a protest to using these bases and the USSSA rule book was read. The ruling in the USSSA rule book is that safety bases are optional. Therefore, if the team playing on their home field (and providing the bases) wishes to use a safety base at first they may. However, the rules regarding safety bases must be fully explained to the opposing team.
-Umpire checks were distributed for the month of MAY.
-Any EJECTIONS or ONE UMPIRE situations must be reported to the League.
-In the event of RAIN, EACH HOME TEAM MANAGER MUST CHECK THEIR FIELD AND CONTACT IAN SMITH BY 9:00AM.
