Dave Choleva Honored at Coaches Appreciation Night

The Coventry Youth Baseball Association (CYBA) held its second annual Coaches Appreciation Night at Ackert Hall on Friday November 6th at 6 PM. Approximately 40 coaches and family members attended the event.
CYBA President Jason Terrance & Vice President Mike Huppert spoke about the very successful 2009 baseball seasons. It is evident from the tournament teams and fall ball teams' success versus other towns that Coventry's baseball program has become very strong. The U9 tournament team won their district tournament and made it to the semi-finals at the State tournament. Other tournament teams also had some success, performing well in their respective district tournaments.
The highlight of the evening came when Jason presented 12 year CYBA Board member, coach & Treasurer Dave Choleva with an "Appreciation of Service" plaque in appreciation of his "unsung" dedication to Coventry Baseball. Dave retired as Treasurer the CYBA Board of Directors earlier this year after serving for 12 tireless years. Thanks Dave!

Coventry BR U13 Team Loses

The BR U13 tournament put up a good fight against the Hebron 2 team but came up short. Hebron put up some tough hitting and had a no-hitter going until the 7th inning. Coventry put two runs on the board but it was not enough in a 3 - 4 run loss. Great season Coventry U13 team!

Coventry U13 Team Headed into Playoffs

The Coventry Babe Ruth Prep U13 baseball team finished the regular season today with a 22 - 6 victory. The U13 team finish with a 5 - 2 record for a 3rd place finish out of 10 teams. The single elimination playoffs begin next weekend. Coventry plays the 6th place finisher at 1 pm on Sunday October 18th at the Colchester McCarthy Park. CYBA will conduct 4 separate Fall programs this year. Please see the registration form and send to the CYBA PO Box. Due to the limited number of teams, certified managers and playing fields, registrations will be accepted on a first come / first serve basis. We expect the Fall Season to start the first weekend of Sept (9/5-9/6) and end around October 19th.
Please submit your registrations by August 15th so that we have accurate numbers for planning purposes.

2009 Majors Champions
The Coventry Youth Baseball Association would like to congratulate all the Instructional, Minors & Majors players for a fantastic 2009 season. Lots of things went right this year, especially the cooperation of the weather for most of the regular season. The Majors division had NO rainouts in the regular season and only two in the playoffs. The CYBA Board of Directors adopts the CYBA Code of Conduct which is effective June 1, 2009. The Code of Conduct was adopted to ensure that "each child have a positive experience with his/her participation".

Saturday 6/20
Championship Game - Bulldogs scored 4 in the top third, only to have the Desperadoes come right back and tie it in the bottom half. Desperadoes take a 3 run lead in the bottom of the 4th. Bulldogs get 2 back in the top 5th to pull within 1. Bulldogs bat around in the top of the 6th and put up a 5 spot. Desperadoes get two back but the Bulldogs hold on once again to wrap up the Championship.
Friday 6/19
Bohr's Desperados got out to an early lead in this game but Bohr took a commanding lead on a 3 run homer. The Bulldogs never gave up and chipped away at the Desperados lead tying the game and taking it to the 7th inning. The Bulldogs brought in 3 runs in the top of the 7th for a great chance of a win. The Desperados filled the bases with the potential winning run up to bat. The Bulldogs closed the door though, winning 7 - 4 to force Game #11, the championship game.

5:45 PM - Jeroszko's Bulldogs put on an offensive clinic including a 2-run home run and a grand slam. Huppert's Titans put up a good fight in the forth inning but came up short. Jeroszko's Bulldogs advance to the championship round versus Bohr's Desperados.
Tuesday 6/16
5:45 PM - This game was a low scoring battle. Jeroszko's Bulldogs put up 4 runs over the first four innings. The Tippos battled back in the top of the 6th with three runs but came up short. Congratulations Bulldogs!
Monday 6/15
RAINED OUT - Reid @ Jeroszko is rescheduled for Tuesday 6/16 at 5:45 PM. All subsequent games are pushed back one day.
Saturday 6/13
2:00 PM - Bohr's Desperados held on to advance versus Huppert's Titans with a score of 6 - 3
11:30 AM - Jeroszko's Bulldogs performed as many coaches knew they could, playing solid defense and offense to win 12 - 3 versus Bates' Longhorns.
9:00 AM - Reid's Tippos put up 8 unanswered runs in the late innings after being down 0-2 to advance in the playoffs.
Thursday 6/11
Bohr's Desperados silenced the bats of Reid's Tippos and cruised to a 4 - 0 win behind six solidly pitched innings.
Wednesday 6/10
Bates' Longhorns led most of the way but Huppert's Titans rallied in the top of the 6th to win 8 - 5.
Tuesday 6/9
Jeroszko's Bulldogs and Reid's Tippos played shutout ball through 8 innings. Reid's Tippos put up 4 unanswered runs in the top of the 9th to win 4 - 0. Both teams should be proud to take a scoreless game into the 9th inning.
Monday 6/8
Huppert's Titans add a few in the late innings to defeat Walker's Spartans 6 - 1.

CYBA Holds Volunteer Appreciation Party
October 24, 2008 --
The Coventry Youth Baseball Association held a Volunteer Appreciation Party at Ackert's Hall Saturday October 25th. The CYBA Board of Directors with help from Tim Ackert, who donated the use of the hall, held the event to honor all the folks who give their time, efforts and resources to the CYBA to make the Coventry Baseball program a success each year.
CYBA President Jason Terrance and Fundraising Director Garen Arisian emceed the event which included the presentation of an appreciation plaque to the volunteers that planned and constructed the new dugouts at the High School field. In addition, the Board thanked all of those that volunteered their time making Coventry Baseball more successful each year.

The CBC "Tippos" prevailed in a tough 11-10 battle versus the #1 seed Allard's Heating & Oil "Titans" to become the 2008 Majors Champions. All players and coaches should be proud of their efforts and sportsmanship. Congratulations "Tippos"!

Coaching Certification Required
Starting in 2008, all on-the-field team coaches who are coaching a Babe Ruth Baseball, Cal Ripken Baseball, or Babe Ruth Softball tournament team are required to be certified. Certification is enforced by CYBA Administrators and coaches who participate in tournament play have to show their certification card as part of their tournament documents.
Visit the Official Babe Ruth League Coaching certification program web site http://www.baberuthcoaching.org. CYBA coaches can take an on-line coaching course, instructed by Cal and Billy Rikpen. Babe Ruth League coaching certification costs $20 for certification good forever.
This is the only coaching certification accepted by the Coventry Youth Baseball Association (CYBA) at this time.

The Coventry Youth Baseball Association (CYBA) will be holding registration for the 2008 baseball season at the following times and locations:
Jan. 26th 9-3 in the high school rear lobby
Jan. 30th 6-8pm in the Nathan Hale front lobby and
Feb. 2nd 9-3 in the high school rear lobby.

Coventry U10 Team Had a Great Run

Coventry U10 District 3 Regional Champions !!!
The Coventry U10 team did themselves proud this weekend during their hard fought battles with the Bethwood and Greenwich teams. Both games saw Coventry suffering 10 run deficits. The team pulled together, however, against Greenwich spoiling the "mercy" opportunity by putting up two runs in the top of the 4th inning. Coventry then rallied for 5 runs in the top of the 5th then held Greenwich to a 1 run in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the 6th, Coventry started the inning with two quick strike-outs but was able to convert two hits into runs by taking advantage of some wild pitches. Unfortunately, Coventry would only be able to score 2 runs in the 6th inning, ending the game with a respectible 9 - 11 final score.
Thanks to manager John Bates, coaches Eric Jeroszko, Dan Lawrence and Jon Reid for their hard work. Special thanks to the parents of the players for their assistance and dedication.

Spring Ballfield Cleanup

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
The objective of this event is to perform spring cleanup and maintenance on Miller Richardson Park Majors and Minors fields to prepare them for the upcoming baseball season. Participants will pick up field debris, rake, work on general field reparations.
Representatives from each team are encouraged to donate some time at this event. The rain date for Spring Cleanup will be Saturday April 4th from 9 am - 12 pm.
