Nottingham Resigns as Cambridge Springs Head Coach
August 19, 2011
Walt Nottingham resigned his head coaching position at Cambridge Springs High School, after 28 seasons with the team. Nottingham finished his coaching career with a record of 165-105-5. Possibly his most successful season came in 1988, when he led his Blue Devils to the inaugural class A state championship game. The Blue Devils lost that game to Camp Hill, 18-7. That team remains the only Crawford County team to ever play for a PIAA football championship. Clint Rauscher will man the sidelines for the Blue Devils this season, but will have some big shoes to fill.
Conneaut Lake Football Disbands, Merges with Linesville
Conneaut School Board officials have voted to fold up Conneaut Lake High Schools football program. Lake will join forces with Linesville, beginning immediately. Due to rule changes on enrollment numbers by PIAA officials this past year, Linesville will remain in Class A. Under the old rules, they would've been forced to move to Class AA.
This marks the end of a Conneaut Lake program which has been in existence for 40 years, perhaps peaking in the late 90's. Although the Indians have had their fair share of struggles as of late, this merger is sure to make an already good Linesville team even better.
