Our Bracket Includes:
Evergreen '91-Green (Washington)7/10 12:30 T 1-1
Mustang Strikers 7/10 5PM W 3-0
California Cougars 7/11 8AM T 2-2
The Davis Legacy U18 competitive team, Radiation, went undefeated in the Davis Legacy College Showcase last weekend. Brynne Konkel scored with an assist from Ashley Syme in the 1-1 tie against Evergreen ’91 Green.
Mallory Creamer started things off right against the Mustang SC Strikers with a hard shot into the net from long distance. Brooke Gary took advantage of a scrum in front of the opposing keeper to score the second goal and Megan Foy put another one away for the 3-0 win.
Konkel scored early against the California Cougars but the Cougars tied it up by halftime and then went up by a goal halfway through the second period. Great play by Toni Darragh, Shay Moynahan, Melissa Gomez, Melissa Tong, Kelsey Kornelly, Kelly Riestenberg, Freddie Brandt and Syme, however, kept Radiation very much in the game until Alexes Ramirez sent a corner kick to Tahi Siale who headed it in for the final score of the game. Brianna Scholtens had three saves in the 2-2 tie.

Davis Enterprise Article by Belinda Martineau
The Davis Legacy U17 competitive team, Radiation, tied the eventual
champions in their division of the San Francisco Cup last weekend yet, based
on the "total goals scored" tiebreaker, wasn't able to compete in the
championship game.
Radiation was called off side 15 times in their first game as The Storm set
an effective trap the entire 70 minutes. Nevertheless, Emily Bowers scored
two quick goals in the waning minutes of the first half, the first with an
assist from Ashley Syme and the second assisted by Brooke Gary, for the 2-0
win. Keeper Christine Gilbertson had a nice diving save to preserve the
shut-out.
The next game was a defensive struggle against archrival Juventus Destiny.
Cookie Rocha, Toni Darragh, Alexes Ramirez, Mallory Creamer and Syme played
especially well in the 0-0 tie.
After a scoreless first half against the home team, SFVC Tremors, Syme put
Radiation ahead early in the second on a beautiful high shot over the
keeper's head. A few minutes later Morgan Throckmorton sent a hard ground
ball across the goal and into the far front corner of the net. Katrina
Sabatier, Kelsey Kornelly and Melissa Tong played especially well in the
backfield and keeper Megan Foster had half a dozen saves in the 2-0
shut-out.
In a rough game, played without Gilbertson, Darragh or Creamer who had
suffered gopher hole- or rough play-induced injuries in the previous game,
Radiation lost the consolation game to the Pacifica Blaze 2-1. Blaze scored
first off a corner kick. Tahi Siale tied it up midway through the second
half. But despite standout performances, offensively by Kelly Riestenberg
and Throckmorton and defensively by Shay Moynahan, Blaze won the game on a
high shot reminiscent of Syme's goal against the Tremors.

Heartbreaking Opener at US Club Regionals
June 21, 2008 --
In the energy draining 100+ heat of Ripon at noon, the girls fought a hard battle against the Vancouver Liberty of Vancouver, Washington. The first half was pretty even, with both teams missing shots and giving it their all. Mallory suffered a seemingly obvious takedown in the box, but the center ref had sweat in his eyes and didn't see it. Emily, Alexes, Ashley, Morgan and Cookie all took shots. Kelsey, Shay, Antonia, Melissa and Katrina all kept the Liberty offense from the goal.Megan made some great saves, and the first half ended at 0-0. The second half was a different story, with Radiation on the attacking third for most of the half, with the Liberty on their heels the whole time. Then, with thunderheads and lightning in the west, the Liberty finally posed an offensive threat, and earned a corner, which they converted and held for the 0-1 heartbreaking loss.

Strong Performance in Game 2 of Regionals
June 22, 2008 --
Sunday's cooler, calmer weather had an engergizing effect on the girls and produced a much happier outcome for the team. The defensive effort of Toni, Shay, Kelsey, Katrina, Megan and Christine was stellar, totally shutting down the Placer offense. Controlling the midfield and setting up the goals were Emily, Morgan, Cookie, Brooke, and Felicia with Emily and Felicia scoring 2 of the 4 goals. The Placer defense had no answer for the pressure applied by forwards Alexes, Ashley, Mallory and Killie. Alexes scored with a header off a corner by Mallory, and Killie scored as well. Melissa was injured in yesterday's game and was unable to play today and Kelly was attending her sister's college graduation. The game tomorrow vs Marin is critical, as they beat the Liberty today 2-0.

We Win the Battle But Lose the War
June 23, 2008 --
Marin came out strong in their usual physical manner, but we countered with patience and skill, until in the second half, Alexes scored on a header tip from Mallory. Marin fought back hard with many desperation shots, but left their defense weak, which Cookie exposed and took the ball up the left side and crossed it to Mallory who chipped it over the goalie's hands for goal number 2. Marin never gave up, but our defense never did either, Toni, Kelsey, Brooke, and Katrina held off the attack with Christine making some great saves. Although we won this game, we needed help from Placer with at least a tie against the Liberty, which they could not do, so we ended up tieing the Liberty for first place in our bracket, with the first tiebreaker being head to head competition, which we lost. Although we didn't advance, our soccer improved with each game, and we have nowhere to go but up....

Alexes Scores Big in Pleasanton
July 27, 2008 --
Alexes Ramirez took the first shot of the tournament, a long hard high serve to the far corner of the goal, and scored. The second shot of the game was also a goal but, unfortunately, for the opposing team, Milan SA from southern California. In the defensive struggle that then ensued, Kilie Englehardt played with awesome hustle, goalkeeper Christine Gilbertson made two diving saves and midfielder Melissa Tong made another save to maintain the final 1-1 tie.
Radiation scored first again in the next game against the Pride SC Predators from Colorado, another Ramirez goal with an assist from Kelly Riestenberg. The referees missed an obvious hand ball on the shot that tied the game 1-1 and soon thereafter the Predators went up 2-1 as the result of a penalty kick. Then, near the end of the game, Morgan Throckmorton flipped a throw-in to Ramirez’s feet and she one-touched it into the net. Defender Toni Darragh made a save with her body on the last shot of the game to preserve the 2-2 tie.
Radiation beat Laguna Hills Eclipse Blue 1-0 on another Ramirez goal, this time off a beautiful Emily Bowers cross, three minutes into the game. Kelsey Kornelly, Bowers, Ramirez, Throckmorton and Mallory Creamer all got good shots off thereafter but could not extend the offensive advantage. Brooke Gary, Katrina Sabatier, Shay Moynahan, Kornelly and Darragh hustled hard and effectively on D while goalkeepers Megan Foster and Gilbertson had a save each in the shutout.
Tempers flared in the final game against Evergreen Green from Washington; a total of five yellow cards were issued during the contest. Creamer served a nice free kick to Riestenberg in front of the goal who headed it in early in the first half. Cookie Rocha, Ashley Syme, Bowers, Ramirez and Tong played aggressively on offense and Darragh and Kornelly did the same on defense. But early in the second half Evergreen scored off a free kick as well and the game ended a 1-1 tie.

Davis Shootout 2008 Results
August 16, 2008 --

Despite dominating play in all three of its matches in last weekend’s Davis Legacy Shootout, the U17 competitive team, Radiation, came away with only one win.
Kelly Riestenberg, Mallory Creamer, Ashley Syme, Cookie Rocha, Emily Bowers and Kilie Englehardt combined to outshoot the North Valley Tornados 11-6, but with six minutes left in the contest the Tornados scored the game’s lone goal. Felicia Salinas, Melissa Tong and Rocha were outstanding in the midfield and Megan Foster, Christine Gilbertson (2) and Bowers had great saves in the loss.
Morgan Throckmorton assisted Creamer for the first goal against the Heritage Extreme and Creamer returned the favor a few minutes later for Throckmorton’s score. Syme finished off the scoring near the end of the first period with her unassisted goal. Brooke Gary, Kelsey Kornelly and Tong kept up the offensive pressure in the second half, Foster had two saves and Jessica Mendoza and Shay Moynahan played great defense in the 3-0 shut-out.
The Novato United got off only 5 shots to Radiation’s 15 in the final game but the last one, early in the second half, went in. Thereafter Katrina Sabatier and Kornelly shut down Novato’s offense and Gary, Rocha, Bowers, Englehardt and Mendoza executed awesome crosses, give and goes and one-touch passes—but to no avail. Foster had two saves and Kornelly another in the disappointing 1-0 loss.

Placer United Prestige Cup Results
October 25, 2008 --

The Davis Legacy U17 team, Radiation, won one, tied one and lost one in the Placer tournament last weekend.
The 1-0 win came first against the Sac United Pumas. Emily Bowers and Cookie Rocha, with help from Felicia Salinas, controlled the midfield and Jessica Mendoza was outstanding in the backfield during the scoreless first half. The lone goal came on a great cross from Alexes Ramirez to Morgan Throckmorton in front of the net whose shot rebounded off the keeper and was put home by Kilie Englehardt. Goalkeeper Christine Gilbertson made a diving save to preserve the shut-out.
The second game was a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Walnut Creek Strikers. Again, the first half went scoreless due to good defense by Toni Darragh, Katrina Sabatier and Shay Moynahan and two nice saves by Gilbertson. But Walnut Creek scored off a PK halfway through the second half and a nice cross a few minutes later and despite great hustle from Ashley Syme, Erin Young, Ramirez, Rocha and Moynahan, and a great diving save by keeper Megan Foster, Radiation could not come back from the deficit.
Bowers sent a long ball off the cross bar and to Kelsey Korelly who put it away for a Radiation lead at the end of the first half against the Capital Athletic Boca. But Boca scored off a corner kick early in the second half and again a few minutes later. Melissa Tong and Brooke Gary responded well by stepping up the midfield pressure. Kornelly then tied the game with an assist from Englehardt set-up by Ramirez. Although Mallory Creamer and Darragh took nice shots on goal thereafter, the game ended tied at 2-2. Moynahan played awesome defense throughout the game, the only non-win of the tournament for Boca, the eventual champions.

Ajax United Winter Invitational-CHAMPIONS!
January 10, 2009 --

The Davis Legacy U17 team, Radiation, went undefeated and unscored on in winning the U18 division of the Ajax United Winter Invitational last weekend.
Kelsey Kornelly scored the first goal of the tournament against the Placer United 91 Black, a header with an assist from Morgan Throckmorton. The team took another 23 shots that game, Toni Darragh attempted a bicycle and a couple by Kilie Englehardt and Alexes Ramirez nearly found the net, but the final score remained 1-0. Katrina Sabatier made several beautiful plays at sweeper and keeper Megan Foster had a save in the win.
Radiation came up against nemesis Novato United next but within ten minutes of the start Cookie Rocha had assisted Ramirez for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The second half got a bit rougha couple of yellow cards were issuedbut with some great passes by Ashley Syme, Erin Young and Mallory Creamer and tough defense by Shay Moynahan and keeper Christine Gilbertson, with one and two saves respectively, Radiation held on for the another 1-0 win.
The third game got off to a late start due to inclement weather but twelve minutes into the contest Rocha found Ramirez in the fog for the lead against the Ajax United Elite 91, ranked #3 in Northern California at the U18 level. Just before half-time Melissa Tong tapped a rebound off the Ajax keeper home for another score. Brooke Gary made a great save on a corner kick in the second half and Gilbertson and Foster had four saves between them to seal the 2-0 shut-out.
Coach David Robertson thought the soccer Radiation played in the first twenty minutes of the championship game against the Placer United 92 Gold was breathtaking. It culminated in a Kornelly goal. Thereafter Jessica Mendoza, Rocha, Sabatier, Tong and Moynahan kept up a particularly awesome pressure, Foster and Gilbertson had a save each and Radiation went on to win 1-0.Website

Northern California Spring Showcase-Redwood City-Third Place
March 6, 2009 --

The Davis Legacy U17 team, Radiation, came in third on points in the Premier Division of the Juventus Northern California Spring Showcase last weekend, winning three of its four games.
Its only loss was to the MVLA Storm, ranked 6th in Northern California . Storm scored two quick goals in the first half before Radiation capitalized on a Kelly Riestenberg to Alexes Ramirez to Mallory Creamer sequence to score one of its own. Jessica Mendoza, Shay Moynahan and Toni Darragh were standouts on defense, Darragh making half a dozen textbook-perfect slide tackles, and Ashley Syme, Cookie Rocha and Melissa Tong did a great job of controlling the mid-field. Keepers Christine Gilbertson and Megan Foster each had two saves and Erin Young and Darragh had a save apiece as well but the Storm still managed to slip in one more goal—the last against Radiation during the Showcase—for a 3-1 win.
Emily Bowers, Young, Tong and Ramirez put on a passing clinic in the game against the El Dorado United Eclipse and Morgan Throckmorton, Moynahan and Darragh played great D but there was no score until late in the game when Creamer put one in off an assist from Throckmorton for a 1-0 win.
Katrina Sabatier, Kelsey Kornelly, Moynahan and Darragh shut down the Heritage SC Strikers’ offense in the next game while Kilie Englehardt, Brooke Gary, Bowers and Ramirez kept up Radiation’s offensive pressure. Creamer scored on a PK and Morgan Throckmorton followed up on a Ramirez shot for the goals and Foster had a diving save in the 2-0 win.
The final game against the Mustang SC Strikers was another 2-0 shut-out. Creamer scored her fourth goal of the Showcase and Throckmorton sent a nice cross to Ramirez who headed it into the net for the other score.

CYSA North State Cup
March 28, 2009 --

The Davis Legacy U17 competitive team, Radiation, went undefeated and unscored upon during the first round of this year’s State Cup last weekend despite a roster minus injured players Brooke Gary, Jessica Mendoza and Felicia Salinas.
Radiation, ranked 7th in Northern California, was evenly matched against Marin FC ’92 Blue, ranked 6th in Northern California, in a very physical game. Alexes Ramirez, Toni Darragh, Ashley Syme, Cookie Rocha, Emily Bowers, Erin Young, Kelly Riestenberg, Kilie Englehardt and Mallory Creamer collectively took 16 shots to FC’s 15. Megan Foster had six saves, one a great dive, in the scoreless first half and Christine Gilbertson had another four, three diving, in the first 30 scoreless minutes of the second period. At that point Creamer took matters into her own feet, dribbling by several defenders to send the games’s only goal rocketing to the back of the net. In the final five frenetic minutes a questionable foul was called on Gilbertson but she made a terrific save on the ensuing PK to ensure the 1-0 win.
Although Kelsey Kornelly, Freddie Brandt and Shay Moynahan joined the ranks of Radiation shooters against the 11th ranked Delta Force, that game was also goal-less at halftime. But in the second period Delta Force was called for passing to their keeper and Young wasted no time touching the ball to set up Ramirez who sent the indirect kick sailing into the net for another 1-0 win. Gilbertson and Foster had five and six saves respectively and sweeper Katrina Sabatier helped preserve the shut-out with a spectacular sliding tackle save in front of an open net.
Radiation’s back-field led by Darragh, Moynahan, Kornelly and Sabatier and keepers Foster and Gilbertson remained essentially perfect in the final game against 4th ranked Redwood Juventus and Melissa Tong, Syme, Young, Rocha and Ramirez played exceptionally well, especially in light of the harsh, blustery conditions. With the wind at their backs in the second half, Morgan Throckmorton, Syme, Bowers, Rocha, Ramirez, Sabatier and Creamer took a total of 17 shots on goal while Juventus collectively took only one. Nevertheless, time ran out on Radiation’s season as the game ended in a 0-0 tie that sent only Juventus on to the sweet 16 (based on the number of goals scored in previous games).
