Spring 2010 Registration Open for 13-15's!!!
2010 Registration Form for 13-15
Registration is now open for the spring 2010 season for 13-15 year olds. Click on the underlined title above or go to handouts to download a form or sign up online on this website. The cost is $165 for a full time player or $120 for a high school player who joins the league late due to high school sports (supplemental). You get a 22 game season along with cap, jersey, pants & socks. We have been averaging about 16 teams in past years, so there is considerable variety in the schedule. You will also get a couple of night games and at least one night practice. The league is competitive, but in a fun and positive way. Tryouts start in February, practices in March, and the season runs from April to early June. One week of playoffs, and then practice for all-stars. The first round of all-star play usually starts around July 1. Supplementals will start in the league in early May.
Forms are due by January 23, 2010. After that, prices go up $25, so get your registration in soon. Coaches are needed, please indicate on the form if you can coach or manage. A mailer will be sent out soon to everyone we know about that is eligible to play. More details about the league will be provided then.

HR DERBY AND ALL-STAR GAMES
On Sunday, April 26,2009 Elk Grove Babe Ruth conducted what we believe is a original event, The Tyler Routt "Gamer" All Star games. This event honors the memory of the late Tyler Routt, a player in our league from the time he was 13 years old to age 19. Please see the article under handouts on the left menu of this page for more information about this "Gamer". Tyler was not the best player on the field but he had a quality which his coaches variously described as "heart", "spirit" or just as "a love of the game". Instead of a mid-season all star game with the best players in our 13 to 15 year-old league, the leaders of the league decided to honor Tyler Routt's memory and the Spirit of a "Gamer" with a game between the players in the league who exemplify the "Gamer", "Yes Coach!" attitude. This years event, the fourth annual, did not disappoint. The scores of the games between the Ott and Snider Divisions on the North field and the Kiner and Gehrig on the South field were not important. Both games were well played close contests. It was evident that the league's coaches chose the players well. Each player played to the best of their ability. Good pitching, tight defense and some good offensive innings highlighted both games. FIELD VOLUNTEER
Elk Grove Babe Ruth is looking for one or more volunteers who can be available during the day to look after the fields. All of the board members work during the day, so the ideal person would be someone who is retired, an old "baseball guy", who wouldn't mind taking a little ownership over the fields to keep them in good shape. Clearing weeds, filling holes, watering down the infield and making recommendations to EGBR and CSD about what things need to be done are some of the tasks we envision. It would be great if this person or persons establish a relationship with the CSD maintenance folks and work with them on sprinkler fixes, watering adjustments, safety hazards, etc.
It would be so valuable to have a pair of eyes at the fields while the rest of us are busy at work. Providing advice and observations about the fields when the weather is questionable would be extremely valuable. We sometimes have to make decisions about cancelling practices or games without really knowing the exact conditions of the fields. This field rep could get litter or some other drying agent during the day to get fields ready for afternoon use, which is something we only do now when we show up at the fields around 4:30 or later. And usually the game or practice is delayed while this work goes on.
We also have to pick up chalk and bring it to the fields, but that is difficult work even for a young guy!!

KIDS NEED COMMUNITY SERVICE?!
If you know someone who needs community service hours, Elk Grove Babe Ruth is a great organization to gain those hours. We can use assistance in field maintenance, refurbishing equipment, help at tryouts, help with fundraisers, help at tournaments, and possibly other areas. Elk Grove has two Cal Ripken leagues, which operate under the Babe Ruth League, for players age 5-12. Go to the links on the left side menu to navigate to their websites. One is for players east of Highway 99 and one is for players west of Highway 99.
