    ELKS SOFTBALL IS BACK!
April 27, 2004 - 04:40 PM --   The Elks League softball team is back! Yes, after a dissapointing inagural season, finishing 3-6-1, the team has headed off to Irvine for more love. The first game was scheduled to be played April 26th, but Abundant Life opted to no show. That's no fun.

The games will be split between Irvine's HARVARD PARK and COL. BILL BARBER PARK. Please be sure to check the schedule to verify the field location!!

This year's team will be managed by Chris Glew. The players include: Alberto Vargas, Josh Dale, Nick Cantu, John Rodriquez, Steve Martin, Mike Rash, Scott Cwiertny, Dan Romero, Chris Glew, and Albert Harden. Prospective Elks Strider Murphy and Gary Arch are also signed up to play.

Be sure to check back weekly for the latest updates!!

    ELKS TAKE THE OPENER
September 14, 2004  --   The Elks softball team took their season opener out in Tustin. First baseman Robert Hausner had this to say, "I know I am not an elk, but I tell you I love this team. I havent' had this much fun playing softball since I played on the original Madden Cruiser squad with the upside down W's on the hats. I expect we will go 32-0 this season." apparently Hausner is not aware the season is only 10 games long.

    Late Game Heroics Rise Again
November 21, 2005  --   The Elks team struggled once again to field a complete team. However, the crew did get together for yet another barn burner out at Tustin's Columbus Tustin park. The team played with only nine players, thanks to subsitute Sigrd Williams who spelled both Mike Rash and Jeff Brown. Keep Mr. Rash in your prayers as he had to miss the game due to a car accident to his father this day.

    ELKS WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
June 30, 2004 - 08:10 AM --   The Santa Ana Elks won their first Softball championship in over ten years this past Monday night in Irvine. The game didn't end quite as the team invisioned, as they went down by a 27-5 count. However, the Elks did earn the championship since they had the tie-breaker with abudent life (they beat them two of three times).

The game started on a high note as Jess Tapia rolled out to sing the National Anthem. Both teams lined up on their respective base lines to pay honor to this great nation. From there, the fireworks lit up as the Abudent Life took a 3-2 lead going into the second. We should have figured the night would go poorly when the inning ended on a strike'em out, throw 'em out double play. EEEEKKKK.

Abudent LIfe went on to run up the score, and take the victory. "It's a shame, such a wonderful season to end on a note like this. Still, this loss shouldn't take anything away from the great job this team did respresenting the lodge. It was great to get the monkey off our back and take the title." said manager Chris Glew.

The team is planning an awards banquet sometime in the near future. Check this website for more information. Pictures from the season can be found under the photo album link.

    ELKS ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!
June 22, 2004 - 08:15 AM --   The Elker Delkers did it again, this time in resounding fashion. The team jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead over URS in the first game of the division series. BILLY HOERNER came out and shut down the URS in the bottom of the first.

The Elks came back with five more in the 2nd and four more in the third to come away with a 17-2 lead after three innings. John Rodriquez actually came in the third inning to give up the two runs... he was nearly saved when Josh Dale leaped and nearly had an amazing diving catch to rob the hit. Instead, it would up being a 2-run HR.

URS fought back in the bottom of the 5th plating seven big runs... however, Gary "HOOVER" Arch snagged the final out of the game to send the Elks on to next week for a winner take all championship game.

"I can't tell you how excited I am. It's great to be part of a winner. I am so happy for Chris Glew... he has really done a hell of a job managing the SH*T out of this team. Unlike that clown who ran the team last season... these guys want it. " said gimped up outfielder Albert Harnden.

    Alberto Vargas added, "Go Dodgers."

Notable performances?? Scott Cwiertny was a fantastic 4-5 in the clean up spot. Albert Harden was also 3-4 with a BOMB to LF... and Nick Cantu had a couple triples.

    Elks Snooze, Elks Lose
September 4, 2003 - 10:45 AM --   The schedule looked like a possible win for the Elks. Reality proved differently. The game was close for three innings as Marty's Helmet took a 7-5 lead into the top of the 4th. Well that was all she wrote as Marty's put a nice 17 on the board to take a comanding 24-5 lead.

The never say die Elks... said die as they scored one run. Fantastic. The team went on to lose by a 26-6 count. Trustees' Roger Vulgamore and Bob Hatch were on hand to watch the game. Once again, thanks for the support. Click here for complete story and stats.

Not to be outdown the Rusty Buckets mounted a comeback of their own. They tied the game in regulation plating four runs, and then won in OVERTIME with plating five to the Elks four.

On a side note, Robert Sammons made his pitching debut. He had a rough go of it in the first inning walking a few batters, but settled down from there. "Softball has been bery bery good to me." said Sammons in a post game interview.

It's Winning Time for the 794
July 18, 2003 - 08:05 AM --   It was a beautiful night for softball out at Hart Park in Orange. The ball club was missing a few players, but our deep sub list proved golden tonight. The 73 years young Jes Tapia made his pitching debut in auspicious fashion. He came out and brought out the deep pitch, walking a few batters. The team soon found themselves in an 11-0 hole going into the 2nd inning.

The Elks began to chip away in the 2nd inning, scoring two runs highlighted by a Jason Mirth solo HR. A new defensive alignment and Mirth on the hill seemed to be the cure with regards to stopping klan in the 2nd inning. The third proved to be the biggie as the 794 plated seven big runs making the score 11-9. We had ourselves a BALL GAME!!!!
