November 17, 2008  --   Locker-room 7 buzzed with anticipation as the Firebirds dressed for their contest against the visiting WOE (Women on the Edge), on Saturday night. While the 'birds remained unbeaten in their first three games, they knew of the battle that would come later in the evening.

The Firebirds had not been challenged in a game this season until they faced the WOE. The first period of the game was very physical, but the 'birds pressed on and came out with their fourth consecutive win.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first period, and no penalties were called. However, the Firebirds were given their first challenge of the season. Both teams were fought hard, and came out showing that they had something to prove.

The 'birds first goal came at 11:44 of the second period, when Courtney Nugent took a pass from Jen Rieske, and went coast to coast, to give the 'birds their first goal of the game. The teams lead was short lived, because just 1:16 later Lisa Drummond of the WOE tied the game. But, just :13 later, Jessica Christian accepted a pass from Lisa Smith, and shot the puck over goalie, Laurie Edmonstone's pads, once again giving the Firebirds the lead, at 2-1.

Courtney Nugent scored her second goal of the game 1:28 into the third period, this goal was assisted by Chris Montoya, and counted for Nugent's 9th point in four games, this goal gave the 'birds a 3-1 lead. 1:14 later Krista Andrews, of the WOE, scored a goal , bringing her team to with-in one goal of the Firebirds.

The Firebirds fought hard, holding off any more scoring opportunities that the WOE might have. The third period was chalk full of penalties but not power play goals were scored by either team.

Courtney Nugent was game MVP, and Chris Montoya was awarded key player of the game.

Way to fight ladies!!! Keep it up!!!
