Flagler United Winter Elite Camp Completed
    January 7, 2009  --
The Flagler United Elite Winter Camp was conducted on Jan 2-4, 2009 at the Indian Trails Sports Complex.  The camp was led by Mike Randolph, starting left back for the LA Galaxy and member of the U23 US Men's National Team and Jacobi Goodfellow, club Technical Director.  Nearly fifty players participated in the camp which focused intensely on individual and team skills.
A sincere appreciation goes out to Mike for taking time out of his busy schedule to invest in the players from the local area.

    2009 Ormond Beach Challenge
The Flagler United Youth Soccer Club sent five of its teams to the highly competitive Ormond Beach Challenge tournament.  The teams participating included the U9 Boys Firestrom, U11 Boys Fury-Blue, U12 Boys Fury 96-97, U14 Boys Firestorm and U13 Girls Firestorm teams.  All of the teams were competitive in the tournament with two teams reaching the Championships.

The U12 Boys, playing up one year at U13 for the first time, won their group and reached the championship match ultimately losing a close match.  This was their first experience on the full sided field playing 11v11, but they controlled the ball and really thrived in the space of the full-sided field with their superior passing skills.  This was despite the fact that they were clearly outsized and against the greater speed of playing against older players.

The U13 Girls gained a third seed in the tournament format after group play and fought courageously through very close matches to reach the championship game.  They battled against their opponent, the Island FC Rage, through regulation and two overtime periods with no score, leading to a penalty kick shootout.  Their goalkeeper, Daniella Shaw, came up huge in the shootout by stopping three shots and scoring one to bring home the championship for the club.

Flagler United is proud of the effort of all of its club teams and looks forward to preparing all of its teams for the fast approaching Region Cup, State Cup and spring seasons.

    Olympic Development Program (ODP) Selection

Nicholas Weber from the club's Fury U12 Boys team was recently selected to the State of Florida Olympic Development Program (ODP) Pool of players for the 1996 year group.
He will be attending camps with his team in St. Petersburg in May and Auburndale in June before heading to Tuscaloosa, AL in July for the Region III (Southern) Camp and competitions.  At this event, Florida teams will compete against the other 11 states in the southern region from Texas all the way across to North Carolina.  These players will then be scouted for selection to the Region III and Men’s US National Youth Soccer Teams.

Flagler United is extremely proud of Nicholas in his advancement through the Olympic Development Program.  Additionally, the club is very proud of its regional selections: Drew Jones (1995) and Jesse Della Porta (1996).  Though they didn’t advance in their respective year groups this time, they represented themselves and the club admirably and gained invaluable experience in their first attempt and stand great chances for selection in future tryouts.  In March, the club will also send players to Ocala to begin the first round of tryouts for the 1992-1994 year groups.

    ODP Advancement
Flagler United wishes to congratulate Ashley McGlashen for her advancement past the Region B Trials for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the 1993 age group.  Ashley participated at the regional trials on March 7-8 in Ocala and advances to the state trials on May 2-3 in Viera where she will be evaluated for possible selection to the state of Florida's 1993 player pool.  From this player pool teams will be formed and participate in the Region III camp and play competition against the other Region III (Southern) teams while being evaluated for the Region III team and Women's Youth National team.  Ashley plays for the the U15 Girls Frost team coached by Mike Giuliano and trained by Jacobi Goodfellow.

Flagler United continues to encourage players to participate in the ODP program and also had four boys tryout for the 1992-1994 age groups in Ocala.  Though they were not selected, we are certain they gained valuable experience and are very proud of their effort.

U16 Boys Finish 3rd at Region Cup Finals
The Flagler Firestorm U16 boys finished 3rd place at the recently completed Region B Cup tournament in Ocala on May 13-15.  They suffered a crushing 1-0 loss in their semi-final match after dominating control of the ball throughout.  They bounced back to win the 3rd place match decisively.

Again, congratulations to the Firestorom boys and Coach Rich Houts, we are very proud of their accomplishments including their undefeated season of play in the Fall.
