New Schutt Football Helmets Awarded as Part of Pop Warner Equipment Grant Program

Teams Will Receive $2000 Worth of New Football Gear

Twenty Pop Warner Football programs, including three new/startup associations, will be receiving new football helmets from Schutt Sports, as part of Pop Warner Football's Equipment Grant Program.Programs from across the country will each receive 24 new Schutt youth football helmets for the upcoming seasons.

The programs will choose the color for the helmets and faceguards, as well as the sizes they need.Schutt Sports is the Official Helmet of Pop Warner Football and part of their partnership with Pop Warner is providing high quality equipment for the grant program.

"We all remember how it great it was to be able to put on a brand new football helmet," says Dave Rossi, Vice President of Marketing for Schutt Sports. "This grant program gives nearly two dozen teams a chance to provide premium quality new helmets to their kids. This is just one of the reasons why Pop Warner is the premier youth football organization in the world."

"We received an overwhelming number of worthy applicants, but the grant awardees demonstrated the most need for Schutt helmets, whether it was the poor condition of their current equipment, or the lack of any protective headwear for the many new Pop Warner teams joining the organization in 2009." said Trevor Scholl, Pop Warner National Grant Coordinator.

"We're thrilled that through the support of sponsors like Schutt, our equipment grant program has been able to help so many associations be successful each year," said Sam Mutz, Pop Warner Football Commissioner. "Partners like Schutt Sports enable us to help our teams keep their kids playing in the best equipment on the field."

State police have arrested the former treasurer of the Lowville Pop Warner Football Association for allegedly embezzling approximately $20,000 from the organization.

Lisa Staie, who will turn 45 on Sunday, turned herself in to authorities Tuesday.

Staie, of 7691 West State Street in Lowville, is charged with third-degree grand larceny.

She was arraigned in Lowville Village Court and released on her own recognizance.

Her case will go before a grand jury.

According to Investigator Bill Campeau, Staie embezzled “in the range of $20,000?, but that figure could change pending further investigation.

This occurred over a period from September 1, 2001 through May 9, 2008.

Staie was also the longtime treasurer of the Greater Watertown Pop Warner football and cheerleading league.

In August, 7 News learned she was fired and that police were investigating charges of money missing from the organization’s bank accounts.

While state police in Lowville were looking into the charges, Watertown City Police launched their own probe into allegations involving the Watertown Pop Warner chapter.

According to Investigator Campeau, Watertown police have completed their investigation and Staie will be arrested by city police later this week.

In August, Watertown Police Detective Richard Purvis said it appeared that more than $10,000 was missing from the Watertown books in just the last three years.

The city police department’s investigation examined more than 10 years’ worth of financial document, covering Staie’s entire time as treasurer.

Detective Purvis was not immediately available for comment.

Staie is being represented by defense attorney Gary Miles.
