What a weekend full of highs and lows! The games….the weather! We all were definitely reminded that the sport of Hockey belongs to Old Man Winter. Time to bring out the Lava Buns for the stands….and maybe the cars J
One thing I can say is we probably did not recall Sunday morning’s cold or the early game time after the boys played as well as they did this weekend. What a come from behind on Sunday! I cannot articulate the wealth of emotions the boys gave all of us with their stupendous effort. I said before that hockey has taught us not to give up. The boys did not give up this weekend. I wish all of our parents could have heard their sons’ on the bench while expressing their concerns about getting tripped, checked and shot at with the puck. They overcame all off these things on Saturday and built their confidence to challenge their Sunday opponent and ended up tying the game with a come from behind, 4-0, to tie it up against the Howard Huskies. The parents who ventured into the dark, cold, icy morning were definitely rewarded with an awesome, well- played game.
Saturday morning game time 9:30a.m. against the Frederick Federals. Trent Miller bravely stepped up to try his hand at goalie. Suited up and ready to go our North Stars hit the ice. Quite quickly we could see it was going to be a rough game. End of first period, Frederick 3-0. Second period was looking pretty bad as well until Alex Abrams hit the net with our first goal…he was assisted with great passing from Christian Ford and Will Longenecker. We also saw our first "real" check of the game when two bodies went down in a heap by the boards. Bodies came up and Mitch Darling shook it off and kept skating. Trent was looking awesome in goal…poke checking, freezing the puck ….looking good! But in the end we lost 9-0. Boys took it in stride, they had fun and Trent said he found out that playing goal is harder than it looks. Goalies…..a special breed! Trent met the challenge and proved he belonged in the ranks of that elite class of Hockey Players! Great job boys!
Sunday morning dawned cold, black , rainy, snowy and icy….Old Man Winter came into town early this year. However, a tribute to the parents…we did not hear not one complaint. Awesome Hockey Parents we have on the Squirt Black team! The team headed to Laurel Ice Gardens to play the Howard Huskies Squirt White team. Today it was Colin Moxey who stepped into the role of goalie. Game started and the déjà vu set in once again…end of the first...Huskies 3 – North Stars – 0. Here we go! Second period opens up and less than two minutes in the Huskies score again….4-0. However, the boys woke up and Colin turned into the Ice Warrior in net. Making some awesome, highlight reel worthy saves! Defense stepped up and turned into brick walls….three rapid goals from Alex Abrams and Robert Mitchell brought us to within one goal of a tie. The Huskies weren’t done yet though…they came back with a vengeance. Beginning of the third period the North Stars scored less than a minute in….Alex Abrams lit the lamp with a beautiful pass from Steven Frongillo for an assist. Then the Huskies scored. Gavin Schissler wanted the win and he came flying in and scored ten seconds later. Alex followed up eight seconds later with our final goal of the game….we were up..6-5…we were winning! Those Huskies, however, came in for one last bite and scored. Bringing home a 6-6 tie in a flurry of scoring and a great comeback from a 4-0 deficit. All the boys did an absolutely great job!!
Coach Fig, Coach Larry and Coach Tad are all very proud of our boys!! Way to go North Stars!
Caps and North Stars Invade 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore Pro hockey came back to Baltimore for the first time since 1997 and they brought the Harford North Stars with them! The true blue, or should we say, RED, hockey fans of Baltimore filled the arena with over 11,000 people all decked out in a sea of red. The Washington Caps extended an invitation to the Harford North Stars organization for their Mites on Ice program. So we sent a contingent of players down to the arena to skate a mini game during the break between the first and second periods. They received true Star treatment by entering through the old “Pass Gate” for V.I.P.’s only then ushered through to get their caps jerseys for show time. They were introduced into the arena by name and were cheered on by the crowd. Slapshot was even skating with them on the ice. They represented the club with pride and we are all proud of them. Here are the players that participated…

We know you will never forget your experience last night and that you were a part of Baltimore Hockey History…Congratulations!!
