    That’s right ladies the Captain is back!!! And I am ready as ever for a three-peat!!! So much has happened in 2006 I figured I would start off 2007 with a quick recap….

    2006 highlights….

    Your team captain takes a job in Texas…
    The company fingerprints him and he makes it home for the weekly card games.

    The team throws the most successful fundraiser in GPMABL history…
    Christian gets new shoes and Buddy gets a new car.

    Newcomer Jake Green gets hassled by numerous teammates (mostly Keith’s 5 personalities) about not being engaged…
    Less then two months later guess who is shopping for dresses…

    Mitch asks Jo Ann to marry him, sister jokes become no longer funny…
    And we begin the next chapter of Mitch and Fran’s eternal life together.

    John Lee has a beautiful baby girl…
    John Lee is sidelined with a complete vaginal tear and cannot pitch.

    Mike Johnston plays for the Eagles, only Sundays between 10am and 12pm, home games and does not catch…
    Buddy gets a free 10 game pack to the 06-07 Sixers.

    Eagles lose 4 games in a row for the first time in their history…
    Then win the next 9 in a row (including playoffs) to win another pennant and become the first GPMABL team to win back to back championships.

    Sam tries to prove his sexuality by getting a girlfriend …
    She leaves him for a Pleasure Dome Stripper.

    Last year was another great year fellas. I look forward to doing it again. See you all soon!

    Captain's Corner
    Mike Carfagno - Team Captain

    I believe in the quiet anticipation of opening day;
    I believe that “pitchers and catchers report” is God’s yearly gift to us all;
    I believe that “Play ball!” may be the most exciting two-word phrase in the English language;
    I believe in the pungent smell of leather gloves and the musical sound of a perfectly hit pitch;
    I believe it is a carnal sin to play the game without knowing how to keep the book;
    I believe in the silent gratitude of teaching a child the game and it’s intracasies.

    I believe in twilight double headers, turning double plays, and two-out double steals;
    I believe in hustle, the hit-and-run, hook slides, and the hot corner;
    I believe that practice may never make perfect, but it will make you better than the day before;
    I believe in the integrity of records and baseball lore;
    I believe there will never be another Babe Ruth;
    I believe in the philosophy that a “day off” is followed by an “off day.”

    I believe only a true hitter knows the difference between rotational and linear mechanics;
    I believe Ted Williams could have hit .300 with a broomstick;
    I believe in watching a pitcher from the dugout to prepare for the batter’s box;
    I believe in running through first base, whether the ball beats me there or not;
    I believe in the premise that a walk is as good as a hit;
    I believe in suicide squeezes, slap hits, stealing signs, and sacrifice bunting;
    I believe that if you’re scared at the plate, you might as well change your last name to Mendoza.

    I believe 9 innings are better than 7 and that extra innings are better yet;
    I believe that gameday jitters often lead to gametime dominance;
    I believe that quality pitching and steady defense truly do win championships;
    I believe smart base runners are always better than fast ones;
    I believe in piss-rods, perfect games, and playing every game like it’s your last;
    I believe middle infielders should never leave the field with a clean uniform.

    I believe in splitters, sliders, and sidewinders;
    I believe in catchers who talk junk and pitchers who throw it;
    I believe that ERA is the true measure of a pitcher;
    I believe that coming up and in is perfectly acceptable at any point in an at-bat;
    I believe a bean ball is rarely unexpected;
    I believe throwing an off-speed pitch for a strike on a 3-2 count is a thing of beauty;
    I believe in the immeasurable value of a good umpire.

    I believe that bunting is becoming a lost art;
    I believe that off-season training leads to mid-season dominance;
    I believe in running on and off of the field;
    I believe in the importance of hitting BP and throwing bullpens;
    I believe in applauding great defensive plays, regardless of what team the player was on;
    I believe that there is no off-season, just a longer wait until the next game.

    I believe in baseball.
