COED TOURNAMENT: The Coed Tournament took place on August 21st and 22nd 2009. The games and home-run derbies took place at Salt Lake County's Valley Regional Softball Complex.

Thanks to everyone that came out and spent the weekend playing, scoring, umpiring and/or watching softball. We had 20 teams and it was an awesome start to a great tradition! Your generosity was overwhelming and the donations received will go a long way to ease the pain of so many of Utah's homeless pets.

Along those same lines, because of your support, three pets found new families this weekend...hats off to those of you that opened your homes to these wonderful animals.

Most importantly though, our apologies to the grounds crew. You did such a great job! And we are very sorry about the 300 or so bags of peanuts that Texas Roadhouse donated and helpushelpthem.org so readily and freely handed out to the ballplayers. Next year we'll try to get more of those dasterdly shells into the garbage cans...we promise...

    Now for results:

We'll start with the Home Run derbies. The wind cooperated off and on and we saw some great hits and the competitors definitely put on a great show. Some of the those bombs were absolutely unbelievable! And the mens Derby was okay too...Good Job Brandi and James and we hope you like your new Miken Freaks!!!

Tournament way, much to the chagrin of the scorekeepers and umpires, both division needed the "if" game to be decided.

"H&H" ran the winners side of the Fleabag division only to find the Pitbulls waiting and not ready to go home. The Pitbulls put up all the fight their name implies and beat H&H in that first game. H&H reeling, dug in their heels and fought the pitbulls off in the second game and took home the big trophy. Our hats off to both teams!

The Hairball Division found "Fire" taking a second round loss and then fighting their way back to the championship games. "Hit it and Quit it", also the "Bounty team" for the division, had won every game of the day! They had fought some hard battles and managed to come out on top every time. Fire pushed hard and managed to win the first game, thereby handing Hit it and quit it their first loss and forcing the dreaded "if" game. The two teams battled again and at the end of the day, Fire would take home the big trophy. Again, our hats off to both teams...

Rhonda, Larayn and Henry would like to thank each and every one of you for your support, help and good sportsmanship. Without people like you, the event would have never been such a success. It was an honor and pleasure to spend the weekend watching great softball games and making new friends.

And a special thanks goes to Eliza Goodman. Without her help, experience and patience this event simply would never happen. If you see her, thank her and let her know that you recognize her great efforts...both in this event and all of the events she manages.

To all of you, we can't wait to see you next year!

    Thanks again...

helpushelpthem MEN'S TOURNAMENT: The second Henry’s Law Softball tournament of 2009 took place Halloween weekend. This was a men’s tourney geared towards bringing teams together at the northern end of the Wasatch front.

All day Friday the weather threatened but by game time things were clearing up and short of cold temperatures the games went perfectly. 16 teams made the trip. They travelled up to three hours to play in the event and the mix of teams was so good players hardly knew any of their competition.

Saturday turned into one of the best softball weather days Utah had seen all year. Teams started at 9:00 am and by the time the Home Run derby kicked off at 11:00 am everyone was ready for a little break. The guys were crushing the balls…and short a mishap with a car’s rear window, the show they put on was awesome!

Henry the dog and his new brother/bodyguard Kaiser the pit bull were on hand to keep things moving smoothly. The players all showed great sportsmanship and they all gave generously to the Weber County Animal Shelter.

At the end of the day, in the Big Dawg division, Team Solo took first and Team Energy took second. Both teams played hard and showed awesome ability and motivation to win. The final game was close and well worth watching.

In the Dawgpound division, Team T.I. took first place and Team Round Abouts took second. Team T.I went undefeated all-day and Round Abouts gave them a fight but just couldn’t quite muster a win.

The Bounty teams did really well. Solo and Round Abouts drew the Bounty Saturday morning and managed to hold on to their prize until the end of the day. It’s tough to hold the bounty flag that long so hats off to both teams.

Tonya Simmons ran the tournament and she did an unbelievable job and the umpires deserve special thanks as well.
Thanks to everyone that played and we’ll see you next year!
