Coach's Corner
May 8, 2007 --
This is my first installment of Coach's Corner which will used by me as an outlet to discuss a large array of topics from the development of our young team to organizational items...in an attempt to push this team to achieve its highest potential. As you all know we have a huge tournament coming up this weekend with 4 games that will help me get a gauge as to how far this team has progressed. I think of games as a test of the work that has been done during training.
Since I have taken over the team I have been working on 4 main topics: 1) Basic Defensive Principles (mostly first defender pressure), 2) Creating space (length, width, and depth), 3) Possession (thinking where do I need to go to be open...before I receive a pass where am going to pass it next...thinking pass first/dribble second unless I am trying to create a goal!), and finally 4) Becoming Technically Better (making perfect passes everytime, receiving the ball perfect everytime, and dribbling the ball perfect everytime). Results will come in time, but mostly I am looking for improvement in all of these 4 areas.
To close I would personally like to thank each and everyone of you parents who have all given me such a warm welcome to this team. I truly feel that you are a supportive group who is looking out for their sons' best interest. I look for some big things from this team in the future, and you make it possible for them to achieve it.
