 League Info!

The LABL (Los Angeles Baseball League) is a non-profit organization dedicated to playing the game of baseball on the best fields and with the best umpires available to us. We also believe in "giving something back" through structured contributions to the baseball programs on whose fields we are allowed to play. Our League is governed by the team managers (League Board) and operated by the League President. We also have a Board of Directors that handles rules, disciplinary issues, and other issues on an ad hoc basis.

2009 LABL Fall/Winter Season Information!

NEW TEAMS: If you have a team interested in the LABL for future seasons, please contact league president Jack Provost at (818)988-8150 or provostjax@aol.com.

NEW PLAYERS: If you are wondering "where do I fit in?"; we suggest that you check out our schedule and see some of our games. We have many divisions, with many levels of play. Our National divisions are generally for the top ability players and our American divisions are next. It COSTS you NOTHING to join our Player Availability (Pool) list, and by signing up, your INFO will be available to ALL of our managers. Signing up for the Player Availability (Pool) list online is simple: just click JOIN LABL and fill out the form. If you get picked up by a team, great! If not, you will be notified of our tryouts (held twice a year - spring and fall) and you can go through tryout process. To all of you who might be thinking of getting back into the game, we echo the National slogan of MSBL: Don't go Soft, Play Hardball!!

PLAYER INFO:
  • Player fees: Team managers, on behalf of the League collect each player's share of the team fee; usually dependant on roster size. The typical cost per player is roughly $225+ for the season, which includes umpire fees and uniform costs. Pool players pay by the game until they are "signed" to a team roster.
  • Season length is approximately 10 games.* The season, including playoffs runs from October - February.
  • Included are playoff and Championship games (for players/teams that qualify).
  • We also have divisional awards for Batting Champ, MVP, and Cy Young.
  • Divisions available based on ability (National best, American next) and minimum age (18+, 25+ & 35+). If you are 35+ years old you can play in any division. If you are 25-34 years old you can play in our 18+ or 25+ divisions. If you are 18-24 years old you can only play in our 18+ division.
  • Players who have played professionally during the past 3 LABL season are only eligible to play in the Sunday Wood Open 18+ division.
  • No games scheduled for Holidays or Holiday weekends.

  • MINIMUM AGE: TO PLAY IN TOP DIVISION (18+ National), YOU MUST HAVE REACHED AGE 18 BY 10/24/2009, and you must possess above average skills.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Age minimums are higher for 25+, 35+, 45+ age bracket divisions. In these divisions, you must have reached the age bracket's minimum age by 12/31/2010.
*Depending on number of teams in your division, we may schedule more or fewer games in order to achieve a balanced schedule. League fees are adjusted accordingly, on a pro rata basis.

FieldALL PLAYERS AND MANAGERS: NO DOGS ALLOWED! We all love dogs, but NONE of our fields allow them to be present. So, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DOG @ HOME. And advise friends and family who might be coming to your game: No Dogs Allowed! Failure to comply could cost us a field. And we are NOT going to risk that, right? Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. Thanks for your immediate co-operation. FieldYOU, TOO, COULD BE BLUE! No, we're not suggesting that you change your mood or your color...We're talking about wearing the blue. No, not Dodger Blue...Umpire Blue! That's right, if you've entertained the notion of actually making the calls (versus second-guessing the calls), now's your chance. If you think you have what it takes, and want to learn the ropes, umpire assignor Al Walters is looking for a few good men with blue potential. No experience necessary. Several of our current players have been through the training program and have been actively umpiring local area High School games as well as games in our League--as well as others. Quite a different view from that side of the baseball world, they've discovered. Anyway, if you want more info, email or call Al [Wally] Walters. Email is waltersblue@aol.com Phone is: (323) 258-7313. Visit the website for more info at www.umpirelaunit.org AND, SPEAKING OF OUR UMPIRES... ...our assignor, Al Walters, tells me that he and a group of umpires have gotten together to collect old gloves, baseballs, cleats, etc. for our ballplaying servicemen in Iraq. That's right, these guys get a great release out of playing some baseball--after the stress of doing their jobs. Sound familiar? Anyway, they are really short on gear, so if you can help, call Wally and he'll arrange to have anything you want to donate picked up and shipped off to where it'll do a lot of good. His email is waltersblue@aol.com Or call him @ (323)258-7313.
