Coach Serrano's Blog
December 5, 2009  --

After an off-season of many special events hosted by the Massapequa Wrestling Program the Chiefs are ready to battle the top teams of Nassau County. To kick start the off-season on April 16th, the chiefs underwent a clinic by 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo. The champion held a Freestyle Clinic at Massapequa High School, and taught the athletes the mentality and mind set of a gold medalist. The Wrestling Program did not stop here. Throughout the off-season, wresters were able to practice twice a week, and compete in several spring and summer tournaments. On July 10th, the wrestlers battled in a special event called "Friday Night Lights". This night time takedown tournament brought in a large crowd where sponsors, supporters and the Long Island Wrestling Community all contributed to make this unique day a success. To cap off a summer's work, the Chiefs traveled 8 hours away on a 8 day trip to Rochester New York for a benificial training camp, and later in the week, competed against 49 other dual meet teams in the largest summer wrestling tournament in the state called "1000 Island Duals". The Chiefs placed for the third consecutive year by going 3-3 and have knocked off teams like Easton PA and Lewis County NJ in the past. After three weeks of practicing the Chiefs will compete in their first competition at the Herricks Invitational this Saturday December 5th. Come and watch another exciting season of Massapequa Wrestling.
