MASSAPEQUA MORE X-TREME!!!!!
September 6, 2008  --   The Massapequa X-Treme won its first league game on the same day that tropical storm Hannah (not the X-Treme Hannah) was set to strike the East Coast. Led by solid defense and strong passing the Massapequa X-Treme beat its namesake from Bethpage 2-nil.
The first goal was a result of two strong passes from Grace and Alison. Sam then fired a high shot past the goalie. While the Massapequa X-Treme had some solid opportunities, the Bethpage keeper had to make many good saves to hold them down. Kaitlyn L. had to make a big save to stop the one strong scoring attempt by Bethpage.
In the 2nd half Massapequa played "rope-a-dope" and held the Bethpage team without any shots on net. Midway in the 2nd half Marina came in after the throw-in by Alexis and connected with the insurance goal.
The X-Treme has its home opener next Saturday against the Hicksville Liberty.

X-Treme Stands in the Way of Liberty!
September 13, 2008  --   The X-Treme rolled onto their second straight shutout four to nil. The Hicksville Liberty were no match to the crisp passing and dominant play of the X-Treme. The X–Treme dominated the match right from the beginning by playing exclusively in the Hicksville zone. The first goal was a result of a strong corner kick by Kaitlyn. L to Samantha who passed to Alison who then slammed a shot high and hard to the goalkeepers left. Massapequa did not stop; Samantha took a pass from Alison and scored the second goal. A defensive lapse by Hicksville resulted in a goal for Marina late in the second half.
With a comfortable lead the X-Treme switched goalkeepers and played mostly “keep away” for the rest of the second half. However, the X-Treme had their most exciting goal by Kaitlyn L. She received a pass from Katie and Hannah and Kaitlyn L raced almost ¾’s of the field and connected with the goal. The X-Treme have grabbed first place in the NN Division of Girls U10.
Next week the Massapequa X-Treme will go diagonally across the county and face up against the Great Neck Jaguars

X-Treme Honors Those Lost on 9/11/01
On 9/11/08, the X-Treme did not wear thier usual practice gear but instead dressed in "Red, White and Blue" to honor those lost on 9/11. Not only does the X-Treme have team spirit, but also the spirit to honor the many that lost their lives heroically that day.

X-Treme Use Up All Jaguar Nine Lives!
September 20, 2008  --   The X-Treme are on a roll!

So far this season the X-Treme are 3-0 with no goals allowed! Saturday the X-Treme again started out strong. However, they were held scoreless in the first half. Gabbie, Kaitlyn B, Sam, Alexis, Allie and Marina were making valiant efforts to get the ball past the Jaguar net but were thwarted by the Jags keeper or the referees whistle. Hannah, Katie and Jackie played solid “D” and Kaitlyn L had to make another diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Coach Frank had to change the X-Treme strategy so they would not fall into a “Catnap”. He made a speed line with Kaitlyn L and Katie accompanied by the fancy footwork of Sam. This line broke the tie score when Sam scored assisted by Kaitlyn and Katie. The rest of the X-Treme decided they too wanted to join in on the fun. Gabbie got her first goal of the season by blasting one past the Great Neck net keeper. Late in the second half Alexis with assists by Jackie and Kaitlyn B notched her first goal of the season.

The X-Treme have opened up a three point lead, however they face their biggest challenge this weekend when they go up against the undefeated Valley Stream Vipers.

The Battle of the Heavyweights- A Draw!
This was a true battle for the top spot in the NN Division. The battle of the undefeated ends in a nil to nil tie. The Valley Stream Vipers were the first team to press to the net but Jordanna in goal held her own. The Vipers challenged the X-Treme but she was equal to the task with a knockdown. Gabby, Ali and Sam all tried to get the first score but were thwarted by the swarming defense of the Vipers. A mistake by the X-Treme almost led to a Viper goal, but heroically, Hannah stepped up and blocked the in-direct kick in the box.
At the end of the first half, the X-Treme started to push the Vipers into their zone. There were many strong plays by the back line play of Jackie and Katie. Marina, Kaitlyn B and Grace tried valiantly to knock the ball past the brick wall defense of the Vipers.
In the second half, the X-Treme pushed the play into the Viper zone. Kaitlyn L on the back line made a steal, raced around two swarming Viper forwards and then delivered it to her streaking teammate Sam who went barely wide on a scoring opportunity.
Today it was “The Greatest Show on Turf”

Avalanche Fall to X-Treme
October 4, 2008  --   > The Massapequa X-Treme rocked its way again to an easy 4-0 victory on its home turf at Burns Park. The Jericho Avalanche was no match against the strong passing and speed of the X-Treme. The X-Treme got on the board early in the first half when Gabby notched the first score. It was soon followed-up when Kaitlyn B. kicked one past the Avalanche net minder. At the end of the half, Kaitlyn L. scored a “pinball” goal when the ball deflected off a Jericho defender. In that half, Grace, Sam and Marina all played stellar defense. Jordanna , Alexis and Alison all swarmed offensively to keep applying pressure to the Jericho squad.
In the second half, the X-Treme dominated and kept applying pressure. Katie and Hannah made many strong plays to keep the ball in the Jericho side of the field. The prettiest goal came in the second half when Jackie popped a shot high into the corner of the net.
The X-Treme are still in first place in their division and remained un-scored upon. The X-Treme make their trip down the coast and will play in the Kirkwood tournament in Delaware.

X-Treme Earn Respect in Frederick Cup Tournament
October 13, 2008  --   The Massapequa X-Treme faced their biggest challenge yet this season when it entered in the Kirkwood Premier Tournament. They faced some of the toughest teams on the East Coast. In the first game, the X-Treme played the GHSC Lady Hawks of Harford Maryland. The Lady Hawks have been playing for a number of years together. The X-Treme fell 4 to 0. However, the solid play indicated a closer game. Grace earned the MVP patch for playing under extreme (or should I say X-Treme) circumstances. The coach has found the patch and will soon forward it to the X-Treme. Thank you Coach Brent of the Lady Hawks for finding it and being a good sport and showing good sportmanship. As us Lawng Islandas say "Good luck da resta of da yeer and have a bawll" (If anyone was curious Massapequa in the old native Algonquin Language meant "Wow, look at the bargins in the Mall")
The next match was against the South Jersey Elite Soccer Club. This time the score was only 2 to 0 and the X-Treme stepped up their play dramatically. Hannah earned the MVP patch in this game due to strong netminding
The Last game the X-Treme played was against the Cinnaminson Red Hot Rockets of New Jersey. This was the game that the X-Treme began to play like a top level team. Marina notched the first goal when she shot a ball high and got the first goal. Sam played in net the first half and was knocking down the shots that came her way. The defense held strong and created many scoring opportunities led by Kaitlyn L, (3 assists) Jordanna (2 assists), Jackie (2 assists) and Hannah. The offense started to swarm in. Gabby, Kaitlyn B and Alexis began to crash the net to create scoring opportunities. A goal-tending switch was made at halftime. Ms. Cool under pressure Grace came into the net and no shot could get by her. Sam then knocked in two goals, the first one on a free break and the other right after a throw-in. The MVP patch was awarded to Alexis for hustle and determination by the opposing coach. The X-Treme returns to League play this Saturday against the Bethpage X-treme.
Hey Debbie!!! DID ANYONE SAY SLEEPOVER!!!!!??????

X-Treme Topple X-treme
October 18, 2008  --   Back from their “Road Trip” in the Kirkwood Tournament in Delaware, the Massapequa X-Treme returned back to Long Island and the comfy confines of Burns Park. Burns Park being Burns Park had all of the nasty elements that opponents fear, the wind and the cold. (Some call Burns the coldest place on Earth) The wind howled and played havoc on the opposing Bethpage X-treme.
The Massapequa X-Treme got on the board early when the Bethpage team committed a major foul with a handball in the box. Sam came in and knocked it in and Massapequa took the 1- nil lead. Soon it became the battle of the solid backline play of Massapequa. Jackie, Kaitlyn L, Sam and Jordanna controlled the center zone and Bethpage could not breakthrough. “Ms Cool” Grace almost could lie down and take a nap after a long night at her house. Massapequa missed a few opportunities led by Hannah, Alexis, Kaitlyn B and Marina but the Bethpage net minder had to nearly stand on her head to stop the hard shots of Massapequa.
The most controversial moment of the match came when Katie connected on beautiful pass to Ali who hammered it into the net. The referee ended up calling this goal offside. Simply put, the referee made a mistake. According to Coach Frank, (Don’t call me “Frank the Plumber!”)We will count this goal in the season totals so not to deny scoring to these two individuals.
The X-Treme remain unbeaten and unscored upon.

The Defense Never Rests
October 25, 2008  --   The Massapequa X-Treme continues their dominance defensively over their opponents. There were great defenses in sports history; the 85 Bears, the 86 Giants, the 95 Devils, the Steel Curtain and now the 08 X-Treme. So far, the X-Treme is one of only two teams in the entire LIJSL Girls U-10 age group who remained un-scored upon. This was a tough game for the X-Treme. In the first half, many chances were lost to score. Balls were going high, left, right and over the crossbar. The Liberty keeper played tough and kept the X-Treme from scoring. Again, the brilliant back half of Hannah, Kaitlyn L, Gabriella and Jordanna stopped the ball from going past the halfway line. The offense kept pressing to knock the ball in the net. Kaitlyn B, Alison, Katie, Alexis and Grace pushed the ball into the net but were stopped each time. Towards the end of the first half, Marina finally got the ball in the net with a low hard shot to the Keepers left.
The second half started and Samantha came out to give needed firepower. Again, the X-Treme lost many opportunities to score. The X-Treme seemed to be getting frustrated. At the end of the second half, Samantha knocked a ball hard and high and the whistle soon blew ending the game. The X-Treme win 2 to nil. This dominance defensively reminds one of a very little known story in World History.
In 1937 the British Government was split, the leader of the Labor Party was Neville Chamberlin (The man who negotiated the dreaded Munich Pact with Adolf Hitler) The leader of the Conservative Party was Winston Churchill. In 1937, Chamberlin was thought to be the more politically perceptive politician. Frankly put, Churchill lacked the confidence and the eloquence of Chamberlin. However most people don’t remember is that both had sons who played on rival soccer teams. Nesbit Churchill played on Manchester United and Wilton Chamberlin played for rival Chelsea. Chelsea was the team with all the firepower and Manchester United was known as the stronger defensive team. Chamberlin could not resist mocking his political rival both politically and regards to Soccer. Churchill soon became upset and this website has come across the correspondence that these two men shared. Churchill Said before the big game between the two rivals:

“NOBODY SAID WE COULD DO BETTER IF YOU READ CORRECTLY IT SYS WE PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT SO DON'T THINK RIGHT AWAY WE ARE TALKING ABOUT BEATING THAT'S JUST IN YOUR BEAT HEAD. AND BY THE WAY DON'T MIX APPLES AND ORANGES”

He further stated:

“OH BY THE WAY BIG DADDY AS IF YOU DON'T CHECK THE STATS ALREADY YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT SHUT OUT IS OR DID YOU READ THE I'LL SPELL IT FOR YOU "NO GOALS AGAINST" IS THAT BETTER BRAIN SURGEON,,,,,,,,,,, TRUST ME HONEY YOUR BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE WRONG ATTITUDE WRONG TEAM AIN'T NO PRESSURE ON US WE DON'T EAT JUST FEED!!!!!!!!!!!!”

These words gave Churchill the confidence to overcome his opponent. We all know what happened next. Churchill willed the British people with his inspiration and eloquence over tyranny and fascism. These words helped lead all of mankind being free. So next time thank a soccer parent for standing up for his or her kid!!!!!!!!- (See the exclamation points)

Throw Out the Hat for Gabby & the X-Treme
This is written by Kaitlyn L the daughter of the X-Treme Webmaster: The X-Treme went out for their seventh straight shutout today with an outstanding game. This time, the X-Treme didn’t get to kick off but they quickly got it back and started to pressure up the field. Many scoring opportunities went out for the X-Treme but the stupid ball just kept on hitting the crossbar and post. Coach Frank played keep-away with Kaitlyn L., Sam, Hannah, and Jackie on Defense. There was only one goal in the first half, scored by Gabby. It was a dominate play with pretty passes and a nice shot. (Jamie couldn’t keep quiet.) Anyway, the X-Treme took this not too surprised because they got at least every game. (Execept for the tie.) In the second half, the X-Treme couldn’t stop having fun. Kaitlyn Brandow got her first goal of the season with a high shot to the goalkeeper’s high corner. Right after that, Coach switched the offense line to Grace, Kaitlyn L., and Jackie so they too can have some fun. Even though they did not score, they had great passes to each other. Gabby scored yet another goal and Jamie went a howlin’. (No offense, my dad wrote that.) Meanwhile, Hannah was getting bored in net along with Grace who played in the first half. While Grace, Kaitlyn L., and Jackie were playing up, Kaitlyn L. took a bad first touch so Sam went up and scored the fourth goal right over the goalkeeper’s head. The best part of the game came next. Kaitlyn L. and Jackie went back on D while Coach Frank put his usual offense group up. Gabby received a pass from a local teammate and started dashing up the field with the ball. When she knocked in the fifth goal, all the parents threw up their hats in honor of Gabby’s achievement. Next week (time for Dad to take over!) Its Yankees/Red Sox, Ali/Frasier, Auburn /Alabama, Cowboys/Redskins, Islanders/Rangers, Georgia/Georgia Tech, McCain/Obama and even the Hatfields and the McCoy’s Its all rolled into one next week: The X-TREME VS THE VALLEY STREAM VIPERS FOR ALL THE MARBLES NEXT WEEK. THE MOTHER OF ALL BATTLES!!!!!!!!!! Stay tuned

"X-Treme Fall Short, But Go Long!"
The Massapequa X-Treme ended their fall season as it started, rain!!! This time the game was shortened and the X-Treme ended up with the 2 to 1 win. While they may have been disappointed because of the loss to Valley Stream, they have nothing but to be proud of themselves. These are the facts:

• The X-Treme ended up with an 800 winning percentage

• THE MASSAPEQUA X-TREME HAD THE LONGEST STREAK OF ANY GIRLS TEAM IN ALL DIVISIONS FROM U10 TO U19 IN THE ENTIRE LIJSL OF NOT GIVING UP A GOAL!!!!!!!!!!

• They scored 18 more goals then they gave-up

The little team that said they could did. When you speak of team, this team exemplified this spirit. While Christmas is coming and the arrival of the new spring season will come soon thereafter, this gives us the time to reflect what a wonderful job all of these girls did!! And to Valley Stream, wait till the next game!!!!

X-Treme Beat Jags in Blizzard in Late May (huh!)
There was no hangover for the Massapequa X-Treme this weekend. As the weather turned warm the X-Treme was greeted with this pappus (Yes I looked up what was the flying seed called- I am not that smart) that flew in the air as if it were snowing. It got pretty annoying if got in your mouth. One would feel like they got a hairball. Anyway, enough of botany and back to soccer.
The X-Treme faced the East Meadow Jaguars. The X-Treme made the Jaguars look toothless and it started very quickly. Sam raced up field and scored the first goal within 30 seconds. The X-Treme went up 2 to nil in the first half when Katie blasted the second goal of the game. At the start of the second half Marina and Sam got goals. The assists in this game went to Sam, Kaitlyn B with two and Jackie. The netminding duties were split between Marina and Grace. The only shot that came to either keeper was Marina picking-up a slow roller.
Lastly, when do we see the Mohawk??
