Club Mission Statement

The Michigan Cagers was established in 2004 by a group of coaches who recognized and realized how valuable and beneficial travel ball programs are to the growth and development of our young female student-athletes. It is our mission to provide these young ladies with opportunities to reach maximum fulfillment, academically, athletically, and socially.

It is our belief that Michigan Cagers will not only offer a competitive athletic environment, but also a nurturing environment that promotes confidence, teamwork, leadership, high self-esteem, and discipline. It is our belief that Michigan Cagers will provide opportunities for our young ladies to enjoy, learn, and understand the game of basketball through fundamental instruction from our coaching staff.

Michigan Cagers believes that it is imperative for those looking to maximize their basketball potential to participate in fall, spring, and summer programs outside of their school seasons. We believe the extended player development through drills and instruction, the exposure to high levels of competition, and the exposure to college coaches are important in the growth of our student-athletes.

Our first obligation to our parents and players is that of the classroom. Players must fulfill commitment to the classroom prior to fulfilling their athletic commitment to our program. Academics are first priority because it allows for better opportunities beyond the court. Without academics, there is no basketball.

It is our overall goal to offer a competitive and safe atmosphere wherein student-athletes can continue the development of their life skills through basketball in hope to have opportunities to succeed on and off the court.

“A championship team is more than a collection of five good individual players. It requires a collection of teammates, who work hard together, who respect, help and encourage each other, who have a common goal, mindset and spirit, and yet who all realize their individual roles and importance to the team.” - Coach Billy Selvia
