Field Usage Policy
Due to the lack of public, regulation-sized baseball fields in Central Iowa, our league continues to request access to local high school and college fields.  There are rules specific to these institutions that do need to be followed as we rent the facilities.
  • No alcohol on school property.  (Players, coaches, spectators)
  • No tobacco (smoking) on school property.  (Players, coaches, spectators)
  • Chewing tobacco.  As much a part of baseball as this is for some, it falls under the tobacco policy.  If you can't make the switch to bubble gum or sunflower seeds, please dispose of chew appropriately.  Take empty cans with you.  Do not make "puddles".  Grind used "wads" into the grass.  If you must chew, leave NO evidence.
  • Field maintenance.  ALL teams should help in the upkeep of our fields, no matter our rental/contract situation.  After the final game at each field, teams should ALWAYS rake baselines, plate area, bullpens and mounds.  Fix holes with water if available.  Teams in the first base dugout should handle the first base side, second base and the mound.  Teams in third base dugout should handle the third base side and plate.  Garbage should be placed in appropriate containers.
Remember, it is a privilege and not a right to play in the Mid-Iowa Baseball League.  Following these simple guidelines will allow us all to continue to enjoy this privilege.

Website Launches Ads
The Mid-Iowa Baseball League has secured its first sponsor for the 2009 season.  We are looking to obtain additional sponsors to generate revenue that will help reduce or keep our league dues flat for years to come.  To do this, we need your help.  If you know of a business that would like to advertise with us, please have them contact Brian Schueller for more information.

Cownie Facility Instructions
Per the City of DM Park & Rec:  The light switch is on the back of the concession bldg.  Please turn off when you leave.  Last one to leave needs to shut the gate (exit and enter if both open) behind you and lock it.  If this can happen for all games it would help tremendously.  The entrance gate looks like it is automatic but it is not.  All you have to do is pull it shut and paddle lock.

Sportsmanship
The Mid-Iowa Baseball League Board of Directors has received multiple reports of poor sportsmanship by players, managers and fans over the course of the last few weeks.  This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Excessive swearing
  • Throwing of equipment
  • Verbal threats
  • Racial slurs
These reports are coming from umpires, players and fans as well as general spectators that have little or no connection to our league.  Understanding the nature of the baseball player, the occasional swear word or helmet toss can be understood, but that does not mean it should be tolerated, especially with wives and children present.  Any threats or racial slurs are grounds for immediate expulsion.

The guys across the field from you and the guys dressed in blue are out there for the same reason you are.  They love the game.  Show respect for others and the game.

General Links and News
Our league recently received an open invitation to join "CheckSwing.net", a social network designed for baseball players and coaches.  Feel free to check out CheckSwing.net.

Here is a LINK to a story about the Tampa Bay Rays up-and-coming prospects.  Des Moines native, Jeremy Hellickson, is mentioned.  Jeremy is the son of league umpire, Steve Hellickson.

Waukee Rec Complex Plan
Click Here for the .pdf file
This is the final plan recently approved by the Waukee City Council.  Note the two "R400" fields in the southwest quadrant.  These fields have the potential to be utilized by adult baseball.  Much can change before this becomes reality in the coming years.
