Redbirds drop two to Wichita Intimidators
June 5, 2005 - 07:00 PM --
The Redbirds finally got into action again after a soggy week in the area when they played a double header against the Wichita Intimidators in Augusta on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
While the weather was good, it didn't seem to help the bats of the Redbirds as they were able to eek out just two hits in the first game of the double header against Garret Kasper who will be playing for Garden City Junior College next year. Those hits were spread almost as far apart as they could be with Lane Wolfer hitting a double in the 1st and Darrin Biegert singling in the 7th.
Meanwhile, the Intimidators scored 1 in the first off of Suderman who then yielded to Vieramontez who finished the game. The Intimidators scored 4 runs in the 2nd on a grand slam by Lowry and also had a solo homer in the 5th from Lewis.
That pretty much sums it up as the Redbirds suffered their first loss of the season without scoring a run, 6-0.
In the second game, Vieyra kept the Redbirds bats quiet, with a shutout going through 5 innings. Cory Youngblood had a complete game 7 hitter for the Redbirds. The Intimidators scored 3 runs in the 1st, one of which was unearned. The Intimidators also scored another unearned run in the 4th.
Farias came on for the Intimidators in the top of 6th and promptly dispatched the Redbirds 1, 2 and 3 batters. However, the Redbirds weren't done yet. The Redbirds scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game, highlighted by a 2 RBI double by A. J. Youngblood and singles by Suderman, Bowers and Biegert.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Redbirds managed to get the first two batsmen out, but two singles and an error allowed the Intimidators to score one run in the bottom of the 7th to hold on to the sweep.
The losses drop the Redbirds to 2-2. Their next games will be Wednesday, June 8th at 6:00pm and 8:00pm in Lindsborg versus Larned.

Redbirds win first two games in Eldorado
June 10, 2005 - 06:10 PM --
The Mid Kansas Redbirds won a pair today in Eldorado in the opening day of the Eldorado Legion Classic.
In the first game, the Redbirds came out swinging the bats scoring 8 runs in the first inning and held on to defeat the host team Eldorado. Eldorado scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first and 4 runs in the bottom of the second to close within 1 run of the Redbirds, but that was as close as they got as the Redbirds went on to win 15-11.
The second game didn't feature nearly as much hitting as the Redbirds scored 1 run in the bottom of the first on a Lane Wolfer solo homer and 1 run in the bottom of the second following a Sam Stucky hit and two errors by the Circle catcher. The game remained at 2-0 until the bottom of the 6th when the Redbirds scored 5 runs on 3 walks and singles by Sam Stucky, Josh Nathan, A.J. Youngblood and EJ Schrag. Jonathan Bowers pitched a complete game shutout allowing just 4 hits over 7 innings, striking out 6.
The Redbirds will be in action again on Saturday in Eldorado at 5:00pm. The opponent is yet to be determined. The wins raise the Redbirds record to 4-2.

Russell Game Cancelled ... but Newton scheduled in their place!
June 14, 2005 - 04:30 PM --
Coach Jim Black was flabbergasted on Tuesday when Russell called to cancel their double-header with the Redbirds scheduled for Wednesday night. The Redbirds have had 8 of their 14 games scheduled through this point in the season cancelled due to weather or other difficulties.
But Coach got on the phone and found an opponent to take Russell's place: Newton. Newton has likewise had a number of their games cancelled and was happy to get a chance to play the Redbirds a double header on Wednesday night.
So, the Redbirds will play as scheduled on Wednesday night, June 15th at 6:00pm and 8:00pm. However the opponent will now be Newton!
All players are asked to be at the field at 4:30pm.
