Baseball Coaching Staff
Glenn Vietmeier, Head Baseball Coach
Glenn is a 1989 graduate of Montour and was the starting catcher for the '87, '88, and '89 AAA baseball section champions under Coach Dan Kriger and the late Nello Giammarco. While at Montour, he earned 10 varsity letters and 3 All section and conference honors for baseball as well as a Division I scholarship to the University of Akron. Glenn caught for Robinson Legion Baseball and was selected to the state all star team. After playing several years for Robinson Federation, he restarted the Robinson Legion team. For 13 years, he managed and led them to 13 consecutive District playoffs and 8 Regional playoff appearances. Glenn currently serves as the President of the Robinson Township Baseball League.
Jay Ciamacco, Assistant Varsity Coach
Jay is a 1980 graduate of Montour and was the all section catcher for the '79 baseball section champs and was also team captain for the '80 team under Coach Birko. He attended William Carey College & IUP on baseball scholarships and was IUP's all conference and team captain for their '84 & '85 teams. He began his baseball coaching career at West Allegheny '87-'88 and returned as an assistant to Montour for the '89-'90 seasons. Most recently he was the assistant coach at Brashear High School where they were section champs '03, '04, & '05 and qualified for the City and State championship in 2004.
Jason Boring, Head Junior Varsity Coach
Jason is a 1991 graduate of Hopewell where he was the 2 year starting 1st baseman/pitcher under Coach Colella. His career continued at Geneva College where he was a 3 time all conference, 2 time all region, and standout All American player his senior year. He also played in the 1996 Division III World Series and holds the single season RBI total (53). Before coaching at Montour, Jason coached at Mars and Hopewell.
Eric Maga, Assistant Coach
Eric is a 1992 graduate of Fort Cherry where he was a MVP and all section short stop/outfielder. He was also seclected as an all-star for his Palamino league and attended Waynesburg College where he was a two time 1st team all conference baseball player. Eric also played for the US National Baseball Team-Athletes International in Belgium where his team won gold in 1996.
Mike Spisak, 8/9TH Grade Coach/Hitting Coach
Mike is a 2001 graduate of Montour and was the starting 1st baseman for 3 seasons. He played Robinson Legion under Coach Vietmeier and was an All Conference, Region and State player at Penn State Beaver, before transferring to California University of Pennsylvania. While at Cal, he continued to play 1st and his team won two PSAC West Championships. Mike also played six years of Federation Baseball as well as for the Pittsburgh Pandas of the wooden bat Great Lakes College League.
Ryan Campbell, 8/9th Grade Coach/Pitching Coach
Ryan is a 2001 graduate of Montour where he was the starting catcher and also played under Coach Vietmeier for Robinson Legion. Ryan continued his career at Penn State Beaver then transferred and was a standout pitcher at California University of Pennsylvania. In 1995, he played 4 Federation games for the 20th Ward and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals where he was awarded Minor League Pitcher of the Week.
Fred Lutz, Assistant Varsity Coach, PT, M.Ed, MBA, SSC, SAQCT
Team Trainer & Sports Conditioning Specialist
Fred is a 1980 graduate of West Allegheny High School where he was the starting catcher for 3 years. While playing baseball for Marietta College in Ohio, he earned his Sports Medicine/Athletic Training degree and served as head athletic trainer for several Division III World Series. After graduating with his Master's in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from the University of Virginia, he was the trainer for their football, baseball, and wrestling teams attending the 1989 Peach Bowl. He interned with the NFL combines and received his Physical Therapy degree from Cleveland State University. Fred was also the Athletic Trainer/Strength Conditioning Coach for the Montreal Expos, and Physical Therapist for North Hills Sports Medicine/HealthSouth providing his services for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is a certified specialist in Sports Conditioning and Speed, Agility, and Quickness Training. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is currently the Chief Outpatient Physical Therapist at Allegheny General's Human Motion Center. Fred serves as a youth baseball manager and director of fields and tournaments for North Fayette Township.
