Always Remembered
It's hard to believe it's been 4 years since we lost you Joe, you will always be our hero.
The SouthCoast Heat started as an inspirational team, now entering our 6th season.
What began as a benefit hockey game between New Bedford Police and Firefighters in Support of the Twin Towers Fund in March 2002 was a calling for some veteran hockey players and new to lace up their skates for a worthy cause.
Having had a successful turnout for the Twin Towers game we suddenly found ourselves with a group of skaters who enjoyed playing together and looking for more games, hence the New Bedford Police/Fire hockey Club was born.
We would skate for yet another benefit game, this one hitting us close to home.
On September, 1, 2003, Officer Joseph Camara, a New Bedford Police Officer lost his life while serving his country in the US Army Reserves in Iraq.

In 2004, A benefit hockey game to support the family of Army Staff Sgt. Joseph Camara was spearheaded by both Police and Fire members. A game scheduled against the Boston Bruins Alumni was a success. The Greater New Bedford Community showed its' heart in coming out and supporting a benefit hockey game for Officer Camara and his family. We extend our gratitude to all who supported our effort wether by attending, sponsoring or volunteering their time for a worthy cause.
The team wears 196 (his badge number) on their helmets as a symbol to Officer Joseph Camara and what he meant to each and every one of us.
In 2005 the team name was changed to the SouthCoast Heat, recognizing the area of Massachusetts where many of our players hail from.
Our desire is to keep playing hockey and support many worthy causes at the same time fostering great sportsmanship and new friendships.
Game On
