Newark Charter School
Newark Charter School was established by parents and teachers committed to providing an educational alternative within the public school system. The school provides its families with a strong academic program, high levels of parent involvement, meaningful site-based management, and an emphasis on student decorum.
The mission of Newark Charter School is to provide a rigorous academic curriculum that promotes high levels of student effort and achievement while fostering self-esteem through stimulating academic challenges and meaningful academic accomplishment in a community of educators, families, and students who value scholarship, good citizenship, and creativity.
The guiding vision and philosophy of Newark Charter School is that all children can learn when they are challenged, supported, respected, and motivated. We strive to serve a diverse student population by challenging each student at his or her level so that all students exceed the state standards and reach their full potential. The core academic program is structured to result in students who are literate in the language arts, mathematics and science, who know how to think critically, lead a healthy life, behave ethically, and assume the responsibilities of citizenship.

About our school emblem.
The Newark Charter School logo symbolizes our aspirations for our children and their school. The left branch of the symbol, the flame, stands for knowledge. The right branch, the leaf, stands for the intellectual, social, ethical and physical growth of our students. The center symbol, the diamond, stands for our uniqueness in Delaware (The Diamond State) and the quality of our programs and people.
A special thanks to Mark Deshon of Deshon & Associates Graphic Design for this inspired logo design.

About our mascot.
Story Behind Our School Mascot
One week after Newark Charter School opened its doors, we experienced the national tragedy of terrorist attacks in our county. In the days and months following 9-11, we experienced unprecedented patriotism throughout our nation and in our community. It is fitting, therefore, that the students of the Newark Charter School selected "The Patriots" as the school’s mascot. Close behind in the voting was "The Eagle". Graphic designer, Mark Deshon, the same man who designed our school logo, came up with the perfect mascot design to incorporate both the Patriot and the Eagle.
The Patriot mascot will remind us of our school’s first year even after all of our current students have graduated," said School Director, Gregory Meece. "It also reminds me of the fact that charter schools like ours are fighting for their own independence. The determined look of the eagle is a good representation of our determination to excel as a school, he said.
