It is a great weekend for NSYFL fans because two old rivals will meet on the field with 5 games between the Raiders and the Jets. The Jets are always good, and 4 of the 5 games are match ups of undefeated teams . Four undefeated Raider teams trying to stay unbeaten, and the Raider Black Flag team looking to even their record to make a run for the playoffs leads to some of the biggest games of the year. To add heat to the fire, the 3/4th grade, and 7/8th grade teams met in the championship of the Simone Tournament earlier this year with the Raiders taking the trophies, which will only lead to more motivation for the Jets to beat the Raiders.
All old, current, and future Raiders need to come out and support our teams.

Homecoming is here and with it will be the last regular season game of the year at San Rafael. This will also be the last regular season home game as a Raider for 8th grade players, and parents. Let's make this Homecoming the best it has ever been!
Please be active in the game day preparation. Check here and with the coaches for more Homecoming details.
8th grade Raiders Luke (Biggie) Small, Brock Dorothy, Brady Newland, Tommy Sciara, and Bennie Palmentere
These 5 young men have been representing the Raiders since the 3rd grade, one even played tackle for the Raiders as a 2nd grader (Tommy Sciara). They will be playing in their last home game as a Raider this Saturday. Luke, Brock, Brady, Tommy and Bennie are one of the most successful age groups ever to play for the Necco Raiders and the NSYFL.They have helped win 4 Super Bowls Championships for the Raiders (Tommy actually has been a part of 5 Championships). They exemplify what being a Raider is all about and what #73 means to us… Love, Courage, Friendship, Champion .
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this organization, and good luck chasing that last Championship!

GO RAIDERS!
Congratulations on becoming a 2009 NECCO Raider. You have recently begun a 100-day journey that you will hopefully remember for many years. Whether you are a Raider for 1, 2, or many more seasons, we challenge you to take advantage of the opportunity you now have to be around 130 players and their families with similar goals – to become better football players, to learn how to contribute to a team, and to strive for success on the field and in life.
The coaches and teammates on each of the six Raider football teams (3 flag, 3 tackle) will work together to make their individual teams the best they can be. However, we believe that if we all come together for brief periods throughout the season, we may be able to learn from each other about what it really means to be a Raider – dedication, preparation, and tradition.
That’s where the Raider Wingmen program begins, with the premise that two are stronger than one, and that if veteran players are given the chance to be around younger players with the same interests, both will benefit in the end.
Here’s how the program works – every player from K through 8th grade will be paired up with a Raider Wingman (called Arr Dub for short), and there will be at least a 3 year age difference within the pair.
Players will be introduced to their Wingmen on Thursday, August 27th at 5:45 pm, and we will then resume an old Raider tradition where every member of every Raider team will meet on the game field for pre-practice calisthenics. Together, the players will run “around the world”, line up on the game field, stretch, do strength exercises, run “the hill”, and conclude with a 131-man BREAKDOWN that will echo throughout the fields of the NSYFL. The 7th and 8th grade Captains and their coaches will be the leaders, with each pair of Raider Wingmen lined up side-by-side. The entire team will meet for another Wingman Night on the Thursday before Homecoming (October 8) to stretch as one team before practice.
The Raider Organization has graciously agreed to provide each player with a t-shirt to show their support for the Raider Wingmen program. The only requirement for participation in the program is that each Wingman attends a minimum of 2 games that their Wingman is playing in, as each player’s schedule allows.
Raider players should be encouraged by their coaches and families to do the following for their Wingman throughout the season: be a friend to him, support him, answer his questions, work with him, motivate him, and cheer for him. Most importantly, the SILVER rule: no matter what, no matter how tough the game, practice, or situation -- never leave your Wingman. Over the last two seasons Wingmen have raised attendance at tackle and flag games, they’ve recognized each other’s birthdays and/or holidays, and some even spent time at activities outside of football, such as baseball, basketball, wrestling, etc.
Like anything else, the more effort you put into this program, the more you, your Wingman, and in turn the entire Raider Organization will get out of it. So don’t be shy, ask questions, give answers, observe, learn, and have fun. Go Raiders!!!
Remember,12 + 16 + 16 + 27 + 27 + 32 =73. Any questions, ask a NECCO Raider.
CHARGERS WEEK!
The season will begin with games against the Chargers which is one of the strongest clubs in the league. Raider fans need to show up for the home opener, and help pump up the teams for a big day of football. Last year the Chargers kept the Raiders from sweeping all 4 Super Bowls. 2009 7/8th grade Simone Tournament Champions!
Raiders start season with sweep of the Simone Tournament
On a beautiful day for football the Raiders went undefeated and swept all three age divisions in the Simone Tournament. The competition was very tough, and will only get tougher once the regular season begins. The 3/4th grade Raiders had to show a lot of heart to get by a very tough Chargers team to reach the finals against a very fast Jets team to win the Championship. The 5/6th grade Raiders went up against a very good Longhorns team to win their division, and Coach Joe was quoted as saying this would be his last Simone Tournament as a coach (we hope not). Our 7/8th grade Raiders supplied some highlight reel material as they completed the sweep over the Jets in the final game of the day.
Great Job Raiders! Keep up the hard work in preparation for the regular season.

The Annual Simone Youth Football Tournament
August 22,2009 Oak Park High School
Young players will gather to play football in front of their families and friends for the annual Simone Youth Football Tournament. The Simone Tournament is for kids in grades 3 - 8. The Thomas A. Simone Foundation has sponsored this tournament since 1983 based on the pillars of the Simone Foundation which are: Love, Courage, Friendship, and Champion. The Tournament is a fun and exciting tradition and kicks off the season each year.
Team awards are given for the various divisions.
We hope you can come enjoy the excitement of this year’s round-robin tournament.
Who is the Thomas A. Simone Foundation? Tommy Simone was killed on April 16, 1983 when he was struck by a police patrol wagon near the location of Necco Coffee's former offices on Independence Avenue. Since then family and friends of Tommy have worked to keep his memory alive through fundraisers that support awards, scholarships and other local charities, and a youth football tournament. The Simone Foundation keeps alive the memory of a young boy full of love, courage, and friendship. For more information go to: http://www.thesimoneaward.com/simone.html
First Annual ‘Stockyard Games’
What is it?
A preseason flag football tournament ran in the same fashion as the annual Simone Tournament.Intent is for each organization in the NSYFL to send one competitive team, creating a 12 team tournament.
How will it work?
Teams will be randomly split up into three pools of four teams. You will play each team in your pool, which guarantees that you will play at least three games.Scoring will be the same as the Simone tournament, based on yards gained and TD’s.The top two scoring teams in each pool will advance to a six team single elimination bracket.Teams will be seeded based on their overall pool scores. The top two seeds will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs.A team award will be given to the tournament champion, as well as the 2nd place team.
When is the tournament? What time does it start and end?Where are the games being held?
The tournament will be held in Smithville at Smith’s Fork Park, home of the Northland Longhorns, on Saturday, August 15, 2009.Two of the pools will play their pool games at the main field below the Smithville Lake Dam.The third pool will play at the top of the hill on baseball field # 1 (in the outfield). All fields will be lined. The first pool games will begin at 9:00 am.Games will last 30 minutes or less, so a new game starts every half hour. The championship game will be scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm, so the tournament will be over at approximately 2:00 pm.
What is the cost?
$60 per team, to be paid to the Northland Longhorns Youth Football Club.Entry fees will be used to pay the referees. There will be two NSYFL referees for each game in the tournament.Tournament fees can be paid on or before August 15, 2009.
What should our team wear? (won’t have league shirts yet)
We are encouraging players to wear their league shirts from last season, or for the teams to coordinate so that they wear the same color shirt.Numbers will not be required.Teams are also encouraged to bring two sets of flags (different colors) which will help to identify teams.Helmets will be required, which will also help to identify players.
