Levels of play
NSC LEVELS OF PLAY
There are four levels of play within youth soccer, divided into Class I, II, III and IV.
The class is dependent upon how the teams are selected. The highest teams, Class I, are individual selections done by tryouts. Class II is done the same way but there is a limit on the number of "older" players from the age group on the team.
Class III teams are formed based on a tryout rating with some selection.
Class IV teams are formed primarily by geographic areas with players from the same neighborhood.
The highest level of play within NSC soccer is Al Caffodio (Class I). These teams are formed by individual selection at tryouts.
The teams play in a league administered by District III, against other Al Caffodio teams within District III (Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville, Fremont).
They travel to tournaments beginning in August and play in State Cup competition in the Spring.
This level requires the greatest time commitment and expense.
NSC has teams in all ages from under-10 through under-19. The second level is Traveling House (Class III).
Under-10s through 19s play in a Traveling House league that is also within District III. Some travel to tournaments and a more moderate expense is involved at this level. These teams are formed by a selection process at their tryouts.
Under-10s, 12s and 14s play Advanced House, (also Class III) although the under-14 team does play in an informal league within District III. These teams are formed at Advanced House tryouts based on each player’s rating at that tryout.
Some travel to tournaments is involved for all these teams.
All other players play in a House League (Class IV) within Newark. It is not necessary to attend any tryout to play at this level. This league is the one divided into Divisions, based mostly on last year’s rating and years of experience.
