NWAYBA is for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18 as of September 1 of the current league year.   NWAYBA players ordinarily reside in the vicinity of Doss, Davis, Gullett, Highland Park, Hill, Pillow, Summitt, Murchison, Lamar, and Burnet Schools. Divisions are coed.

Practices and games (usually not more than a combination of two per week, with one on Saturday) are typically held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The season will run from November thru February with playoffs finishing prior to Spring Break and the start of Spring baseball.  No practices or games are scheduled during AISD school holidays.

Last minute rescheduling of games and practices may occur. These changes occur when school groups require the space NWAYBA had reserved. It is not possible for us to control AISD school activities. AISD events always take precedence.

Please check the website frequently for rescheduling and other important league news.

As a youth organization, our biggest challenge every year is securing enough gym space for all our teams to practice and play games. This year, we have been working hard to secure sites including Doss Elementary School, Anderson High School, Murchison Middle School, Lamar Middle School, Hoop Zone and others.

We want to acknowledge these great facilities and to remind everyone of our responsibilities at these venues.  In particular, AISD requires the following:

1 - No food or drink is allowed in the gyms.
2 - No door propping is allowed at these schools.
3 - All participants and their siblings need to remain in the gyms and hallways connecting them.  There are bathroom facilities and water fountains in these adjacent hallways for NWAYBA to use.

NWAYBA would like to thank you all in advance for participating and supporting our league because all of us parents and volunteers know that what we do, we do for the kids!

Philosphy

The Northwest Austin Youth Basketball Association (NWAYBA) offers boys and girls in Northwest Austin the chance to play organized basketball in an atmosphere of friendly competition. The Association’s primary goal is to make sure kids have fun, learn teamwork, and acquire basketball fundamentals.

The attitude coaches and parents bring to NWAYBA basketball games is critical toward establishing the competitive tone of the league. We expect coaches and parents to treat youth basketball for what it is—a game kids play for fun and tempered competition. Please have fun, cheer heartily, and get excited. However, throughout, remember it’s just a game.

NWAYBA has established several unique rules to make the game more fair and age-appropriate. Although some of these rules can be manipulated to circumvent their intent, we expect coaches to abide by the rules in the spirit with which they were designed.

Referees hired by NWAYBA to officiate basketball games are trained to call the games to the best of their ability. However, they will make mistakes, perhaps even at critical times. At no time should parents direct any criticism to the officials. If coaches have concerns, they should be discussed with their commissioner.

This season will be great if everyone cooperates. Many thanks to all the coaches for taking the time to teach northwest Austin children basketball and sportsmanship.
