Pack Committee Meeting Minutes

In attendance were Paul Kennedy, Rick Tanke, Sandra Ayriss, Michael Duckworth, Joe Rios, Mark Reisig, Dan Seip, Laurie Awad and Darlene Dalessandro.

1.      Introduction & Welcome New Leaders

2.      Registration Update

Sandra is in the process of finalizing the roster.

3.      October Pack Meeting at the Country Mill in Charlotte, MI

Money collected at the event and receipts for expenses were submitted. Laurie Awad reported that despite the rainy weather a good time was had by all. The Tennes family, owners of the Mill, treated the Pack well with excellent customer service. The boys enjoyed the corn maze, wagon ride and inflatables.

The Pack struggled with families who originally paid and then did not show without letting Darlene know that they were not coming. As a result, we spent money of food that wasn’t needed. An email will go out Pack wide explaining the importance of RSVPing. All left over food will be donated to Redeemer Church.

4.      November Pack Meeting – Raingutter Regatta

Our next event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19th, at 6:15 p.m.

Scouts who did not pick up their kits at the Cider Mill will need to contact their Den Leader.

This year the boat race will be just for fun. Trophies will be awarded by “Kids Choice” based on Den Level. Admiral Trophies will be presented to the best overall. Committee Leaders will make the decision on which Scout will receive the Admiral Trophy the night of the event.

Patches will also be given to all boys who participate.

Pot luck dinner will be provided and food will be scheduled by Den Level.

Rick Tanke and Paul Kennedy agreed to build wooden stands so that each scout’s boat will be able to sit upright for presentations.

Dan Seip and Michael Duckworth will bring saw horses on the night of the event.

Darlene Dalessandro will talk to Chad Stevens regarding the need for water and hoses.

5.      December/February Ideas

Darlene discussed the need for entertainment ideas at both the Holiday Party in December and the Blue & Gold Banquet in February.

Discussion was held on bringing in a professional group to entertain the boys. It was determined that the group was too expensive. Instead, Den Leaders will look into skits/plays, games and holiday songs to take place in December. Pop Corn prizes will also be distributed at the Holiday dinner.

Scouts who reached their goal in selling popcorn will still have the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of their Den Leader, but the Committee decided it would be too messy to do this at Redeemer. Instead, those scouts will have the opportunity to throw their pies at the year end picnic in June.

Finally, the Blue & Gold Banquet will be busy with FOS presentation, Crossing Over Ceremony and the Cake Auction. The Pack will not bring in a guest speaker at this event.

6.      October Round Table – Chief Okemos Council

This month’s round table took place in St. Johns. The main focus was on re-chartering and the fact that it has increased to $15/per boy. On-line renewal is now available. Re-chartering deadline is Jan 1st.

The Chief Okemos Council has several upcoming activities that families may participate in:

October 31st – Halloween Fun Day at Potters Park Zoo

December 12th – Overnight at NCG

More information on these events can be obtained by calling the Chief Okemos Council.

FOS Presentations

This year’s presentations need to be scheduled with Nate by March 2010. Nate is looking for each Unit to provide a 1 time contribution – approx $200 - $300 per Pack. The goal is to have 10 new kids for every Unit.

Popcorn Sales

Nate indicated that popcorn sales are going well

November Round Table

Next month’s Round Table is set for Nov 11th at the Knight’s of Columbus in St. Johns.

7.      Training

Mark is coordinating training with the new leaders.

8.      Den Leaders

Den Leaders discussed the fact that there is a budget so the new Den Leaders know what to expect going forward.
