10U Wins the 55th Annual LFYAA Tournament Championship With a Dramatic 6th Inning Come From Behind Victory!
The PAL Astro’s gave 110% Monday July 13th in the 55th Annual LFYAA 10U championship game vs. Brooklyn Park. It was another classic game that went down to the wire and saw spectacular efforts from both teams.. Here is the game recap.
The Astro's went ahead 2-0 early on only to fall behind 3-2. Alex Hill pitched 3 solid innings before giving way to Dominic Belnomi in the 4th. Kyle Remaley was superb behind the plate throwing out three would-be base stealers tonight. PAL eventually went ahead 6-3 with James Cardillo -who was stellar defensively at 2nd base the entire tournament- Connor Wilson and Ben Stoy keying this rally only to see that lead also disappear. The Astro’s fell behind 9-6 going into the last of the 5th. Belnomi pitched well but a couple of defensive miscues aided the Brooklyn Park rally. PAL pushed across a run in the 5th on an RBI by Will Spanoghe to cut it to 9-7 going into the 6th. Tom Flanagan who had an MVP caliber tournament and the Astro’s defense mowed the Brooklyn Park team down in the top of the 6th keeping the game within reach.
Dillon Brown led off the last of the 6th by drawing an all-important walk. The next two batters got out. Brown had made it to 2nd base however PAL’s championship hopes appeared to be fading. But Kyle Remaley and Alex Hill both hit solid singles to keep the inning alive. Brown scored to cut it to 9-8. Dominic Belnomi walked to load the bases with two outs with Tomas Montenegro coming up. Montenegro fell behind 0-2. The Brooklyn Park fans were going crazy anticipating strike three. It never came. Montenegro worked the count to 3-2 with 2 outs, the bases loaded and PAL down by a run. With nerves of steel, he took ball 4 to force in the tying run. At this point the momentum clearly shifted to the PAL crowd. Timmy Martin came to plate. With the savvy poise of a 10 year major league veteran he hit a shot up the middle, Belnomi broke for 3rd in front of the shortstop trying to field the ball, Montenegro slid hard but clean into 2nd safely as Hill dashed for home.... and scored the championship winning run. PAL wins the LFYAA 10U championship 10-9!!!!!!

Week 2 April 19-25
12U team LaBille-
Double header action on Kent Island. 12B(LaBille/Schubert) 4/25/2009 What a great weekend for baseball.
We had another complete team effort. Our starting pitching rotation of Jack Schubert and Jesse McElree are dominating opposing teams while the relief pitching of Jake Krochina and Ronald Spriggs shut down any chance of a come back.
The bats again came to life as we shut down Kent Island 10-1 and 9-3. Late in the second game with a slim 3 run lead, Kent Island had 2 runners on when a long fly ball was hit to right center. This would have cleared the bases but out of nowhere came our center-fielder Jack Owen, who made a awesome catch to end any hope of a rally. A gritty performance was also turned in by Nathan LaBille who caught 9 out of 12 innings in the 90 degree oppressive heat.
Week 1 April 12-18
12U County B
Opening day April 18th, 2009. The newest members of the PAL family (12B LaBille/Schubert) won their opening game against Deale 11-4 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. In what could only be described as an outstanding team effort. We had solid pitching , timely hitting, aggressive speed on the bases and almost an error free defense which resulted in our first victory. It was great to see the boys come out, overcome the jitters of opening day and play the kind of baseball I know they are capable of playing.
PAL Baseball’s 11U Travel Team
PAL Baseball’s 11U Travel Team hosted a doubleheader vs Lakeshore 11U at PALPark on Saturday the 18th. PAL won Game One 13-1 behind the arm of southpaw Andy Rozylowicz. Rozylowicz improved to 1-0 on the season, tossing a complete game 1 hitter, striking out 9 of 17 batters. The offense was lead by Tre Damico, staying true to the name ‘Tre’, went 3 for 3, scored 3 runs, and stole 3 bases. Infielders Emory Sears, Jack Elstner, and Graeme Joyce sured up the defense for Rozylowicz.
Game 2 was also won by the Astros 13-7. Winning pitcher Tre Damico pitched 3 shut-out innings and scored 3 runs. The offense was lead by Brady Oneil and Nick Sabatini, both scoring 2 runs and hitting in 2 rbi’s each. Relief pitchers Brady Oneil, Emory Sears, and Nick Sabatini all combined to preserve the lead and complete the win for the Astros. Brendan Aumiller, Brendan Looney, and Patrick Swalwell all were solid in the outfield, keeping late game base runners at bay.
The Astros combined for 26 runs, 27 hits, and 31 stolen bases over the doubleheader sweep, improving their record to 3-0 in the 11U Severn Division of the Chesapeake Baseball Association (CBA).
10U County A Team 2(Blue)
The PAL Astro’s2 (Blue) 10U County A league team started the season off with a hard fought 8-6 victory over a tough Crofton Cardinals team recently at PAL Park. The scrappy Astro’s won with some solid pitching, outstanding defense, timely hitting and aggressive base running to go to 1-0 on the season.
Dominic Belnomi pitched 4 innings to earn the victory. He gave up 3 runs struck out 7 and only walked 2 batters. Alex Hill pitched the last 2 innings to earn the save. Hill was helped by a double play in both the 5th and 6th innings. In the 5th, Alex Jennings made a nice catch on a fly ball in shallow left and then threw to 3rd baseman Tomas Montenegro who doubled the runner who broke for home on contact. Then in the 6th, Hill struck out the Crofton batter but the pitch went to the backstop. Astro’s catcher Kyle Remaley hustled to retrieve it and made a perfect toss to Hill who hustled in and put the tag on the hard-charging Cardinal runner.
Brendan Aumiller paced the PAL offense with a 2 run homer, a double, single, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. He also made a great catch in center almost doubling the runner tagging for home. Dominic Belnomi had two hits, 2 RBI’s and also scored a run, Alex Hill had two hits and scored 2 runs and Alex Jennings had a single and 2 RBI’s. James Cardillo, Tomas Montenegro, and Kyle Remaley also worked their way on base and scored runs for the Astro’s.
