General Information
P.Y.B.A. 2009-2010 INFORMATION SHEET – IT’S A KID’S GAME

This information sheet is designed to help answer your questions about the upcoming basketball season.

ALL REGISTRATION WILL BE DONE ONLINE THIS YEAR (CREDIT/AND MONEY ORDERS)
*All age groups are classified using September 1st as the age cut-off date. Ages/Leagues range from 6-14 yrs. old.
*Practices start on or after November 14th. You will be notified by your coach or league VP prior to November 15th as to which team your child is on.
*We are always looking for good coaches. We had almost 150 head/assistant coaches last year. Please notate on the registration form if you would be interested in coaching a team.
* Most team will play between 10-14 games during the season.
*Picture day is in January 9 (SATURDAY). You have a $14 picture value included in your registration fee. There is a rebate given back to the league for each picture taken.
*Uniforms jerseys are supplied by the league (shorts, socks and shoe types are optional ). Uniforms will be delivered to your team before the first game.
*Each player is guaranteed to play at least 2 quarters per game. There are typically 8-10 player per team. There is a participation award given to each player.
*End of the season parties are planned by each team. We suggest Gatti Land or Lamppost Pizza as the leagues sponsor of choice.
*No food or drinks (even water) are allowed in the gyms. No basketballs are allowed in the building. The league supplies warm up balls for each game. Please keep other children and friends from roaming the halls. The use of the P.I.S.D. gyms is a very honored privilege that P.Y.B.A. has worked very hard for 20 years to keep in good standing.
*Each game will have a minimum of one referee. Please refrain from displaying any verbal abuse towards our referees. Your team or coach could receive penalties up to and including forfeiture of their game(s) for your actions. The referees will make calls you don’t agree with. Please remember that we are here for your kids and the kids are watching our actions.
*We are always looking for good referees. We will consider all applicants age 15+. Please call or e-mail if you’re interested or know of someone whom might be interested. Referee coordinators are Fred Salyers and Tommy Nobles.
NON-COMPETITIVE LEAGUES
6 or Pewee League – This league is a co-rec league. Games are played at TBD. Most weeks there will be one game during the week and one game on Saturday. The players in this league wear league supplied (color coded) wrist bands to help them recognize which player they are guarding on the other team. Please include friends/schoolmates/coaches your child would like to play with on the application. We do not keep score in this league. There are no lane violations. Free throws are shot from 10 ft. and the baskets are at 8 ½ ft. There is a running clock with 6 minute quarters. Your league VP is TBD, vp-age6@pyba.info .
7-8 Girls – Games are played at TBD. Weekday games are either at 6, 7 or 8 p.m. and Saturday games are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please include friends/schoolmates/coaches your child would like to play with on the application. We do not keep score in this league. There are 5 second lane violations. Free throws are shot from 12 ft. and the baskets are at 8 ½ ft. There is a running clock with 6 minute quarters. 7-8 Boys – You will play games at TBD. Weekday games are either at 6, 7 or 8 p.m. and Saturday games are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please include friends/schoolmates/coaches your child would like to play with on the application. We do not keep score in this league. There are 5 second lane violations. Free throws are shot from 12 ft. and the baskets are at 8 ½ ft. There is a running clock with 6 minute quarters. COMPETITIVE LEAGUES
Tryouts (not all players will tryout, please read age group descriptions below)–.
9-10 Girls – You will play games at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Weekday games are on Tuesday,and Friday between 6:00 and 9:30 p.m. and Saturday games are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you are league age 9 - or you are not playing with your PYBA team from last year - then you must go through tryouts unless you are a child of the Head coach or Assistant coach. We do keep score in this league. There is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. There are also two All Star teams of 10 players selected by the coaches to play at the end of the season. Baskets are set at 10 ft. There is a 12 ft. Free throw line. There are 5 second lane violations. There is a running clock with 7 minute quarters. Your league VP is TBD.
9-10 Boys – You will play games at TBD. If you are league age 9 - or you are not playing with your PYBA team from last year - then you must go through tryouts unless you are a child of the Head coach or Assistant coach. We do keep score in this league. There is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. There are also two All Star teams of 10 players selected by the coaches to play at the end of the season. Baskets are set at 10 ft. There is a 14 ft. Free throw line. There are 5 second lane violations. There is a running clock with 7 minute quarters. Your VP is TBD.
11-12 Girls – You will play games at Immanuel Lutheran Chruch. Weekday games are on Tuesday and Friday. and Saturday games are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you are not playing with your PYBA team from last year then you must go through tryouts unless you are a child of the Head coach or Assistant coach. We do keep score in this league. There is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. There are also two All Star teams of 10 players selected by the coaches to play at the end of the season. Baskets are set at 10 ft. There is a 15 ft. Free throw line. 11-12 Boys – You will play games at TBD. Weekday games are on Tuesday and Friday between 6 and 8 p.m. and Saturday games are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you are not playing with your PYBA team from last year then you must go through tryouts unless you are a child of the Head coach or Assistant coach. We do keep score in this league. There is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. 13-14 Boys – You will play games at Hendrickson High School (TBD). Most if not all games will be on Saturday or Sunday (TBD). If you are not playing with your PYBA team from last year then you must go through tryouts unless you are a child of the Head coach or Assistant coach. We do keep score in this league. There is a double elimination tournament at the end of the season. Baskets are at 10 ft. There is a 15 ft. Free throw line. A running clock with 8 minute quarters. There is full court pressure. All-stars – There will be 20 all-stars players selected for each division. 10 players per team. Each player will play two full quarters. There will be no substitutions during the game. Each Head Coach will have the ability to cast 8 votes: one vote per player, with a maximum of two votes for players on their team. All-stars will be determined based on the number of votes received. The first tie-breaker is league age. League VPs will settle all other ties as they think best. The HOME team head coach will be the head coach of upper division regular season winning team. The VISITING team head coach will be the head coach of next division regular season winning team. HOME team assistant coach will be the head coach of next division regular season winning team. VISITING team assistant coach will be the head coach of upper division regular season runner-up team. If a coach’s child is voted an all-star, they will be allowed to play with their parent. All other all-star players will be drafted by the two head coaches. NOTE: The league VP has the authority to change or modify these rules if they feel it is in the best interest of the players in the league. The league VP is the final authority on all all-star matters. NO WHINING
After season tournaments – All after season tournaments will be double elimination play except for the championship game (Looser bracket winner vs winner bracket winner) which will be a one game, winner take all format.
