    Site Update
2-28-04 -- I have added the section, "Scotty's Insight" along with the finalized 2004 Hawks Schedule and calendar. Season starts monday. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the practices and games... keep coming back and checking for updates and posting on the guesbook!
1-31-04 -- I have made a few noticeable alterations to the website recently. The major change made was moving much of the pages on the site from the 2003 season into one page on the site. You can find the 2003 Roster, Game Results, Division Standings and the world renown Bonder's corner all on the 2003 Site Information page. I have also retitled many of the sections of the Hawks website, fear not, the content has remained the same except for the usual updated information. I hope you enjoy your time browsing the newly formatted website.
As of today, the season is one month away. Be prepared for a more mature, experienced, and eager Varsity baseball team than New York has ever seen in years passed to come out of Plainview JFK. Soon the snow will melt and the boys of summer will be back in town. Let's break out the gloves and bats and play some ball!

    RINGS!
9-5-03 -- ::UPDATE:: The Rings are in! Check out the rock!

8-25-03 -- The 2003 Plainview JFK Hawks baseball team will be receiving their Long Island Championship personalized rings in the near future. There was a time when you thought the team jackets were the coolest thing around town, think again! Because a Hawks Jacket and a Hawks ring is pretty darn good looking, especially if I'm the one wearing it... In all seriousness be on the look out for these gems, and dont be afraid to ask a player for a look at it, he'll be glad to show it off, maybe he'll throw in a story from the season as well.
YOU might have noticed the Hawks banner hanging over Old Country Road by the firehouse that they were kind enough to donate (man, those guys are awesome!). That same banner will be hung on the outfield fence when the season starts. So be on the look out for the 40 foot blue sign!
BEST of luck to those 2003 Hawks who have graduated and are now at the college level. Make us proud!
LISTEN up! Current players and those trying out for the team next year... Keep working hard in the off-season! Run sprints, hit in the cages, long toss, hit up the school's new and improved weight room. If we would like to repeat the success of last season we must be prepared! Any time you have a question don't be afraid to approach me, my teammates, or any of the coaches. Especially the new guys, we're here to help you out, and look forward to seeing the young talent coming up to next year's team. See ya on the field.

    2003 Hawks...Truly a Season to Remember
6-11-03 -- It's been a while since the last update. The season has ended recently. The team finished 2nd Place in the state as New York State Finalists, Long Island, County, Conference, and Division Champions! Not a bad run! The team would like to thank the Plainview Volunteer fire department for escorting us home from Binghamton and making us feel like champions. Visit their website www.plainviewfd.org ... Anyway, as the season draws to a close all I can say is that it has been the best experience of my life, and for the rest of my teammates. As I say goodbye to my fellow captains Jason Bonder and Bryan Cipolla and the rest of the Seniors on the 2003 team, we look forward to next year, when we hope to come back strong and win ourselves a state championship! Thanks to the parents, grandparents and relatives who have supported us throughout our careers all the way through this year. Thanks to our newly added fans that supported us this year... especially the baseball groupies (Bashman, Levy, Namm, Littauer, Langer, etc.) Most of all thanks to the coaches, for leading us throughout the whole season. This team could not have gone as far as it did, without them. We have the utmost respect for all of our coaches; Colleluori, Rothman, Wagner, and Rehman. On behalf of the team, thank you.

In the TEAM ROSTER section I have added the reflections made by each player on the past season. It's been a truly amazing time in my life. Thanks for the memories.

The Hawks go for the Long Island Championship victory tomorrow in pursuit of going to Binghamton for the State Tournament. It's been a great ride let's keep it going!

Hawks are in the COUNTY FINALS!!!
5-27-03 -- Here's the inside scoop... Although the Hawks did not come out victorious in the semi-final game, Plainview got into the Counties through the back door. How the heck did the Hawks get into the finals, you ask? Good Question... In the quarter finals, Plainview defeated Mepham high school. The Hawks needed Mepham to win their semi-final game, in order for Plainview to get directly into the finals. Well, Mepham came through by defeating Calhoun high school. Still confused? You should be. Don't worry it will start to make sense in a moment... Here's what goes on with the Playoff situation. Farmingdale plays Mepham tomorrow to earn their spot in the County Finals, against Plainview JFK high school. The Hawks will be home the first and third game of this best of three series. Please come down to watch these exciting games! Details on the dates of the events to follow. Stay tuned...

The Hawks are the Division Champions!
5-12-03 -- Jason Bonder pitches 6 2/3 of shutout ball to lead the Hawks to victory... Down by one run in the bottom of the seventh, Alex Regensburg laces a double to the fence to start off the inning. Jason Appel follows with a single. Mike Rutcofsky crushed a double to drive in both runners for the game winner! Plainview defeats Hicksville and earn themselves a banner to hang proudly in the gym. The 2003 Plainview JFK Hawks are the Division Champions!!!!

5-11-03 -- Official Hawks manager and scorekeeper extraodinaire Scotty Sternlieb is back in the dugout for Plainview! He's here just in time for the playoffs! It's great to have you back Scotty!

4-26-03 -- In an unexpected yet extremely intense intrasquad game today, Team Rutcofsky (a.k.a. Minuteman Scott) defeated Team Cipolla (a.k.a. Club Santos). The game lasted only one inning but it was all Rut's team needed. On defense they flashed fancy glove work behind the magnificent mound work of pitcher and track star extraordinaire, Jason Bonder. They were able to hold Cip's team to one run and get out of the top half of the inning. Then came the big bats. The team's offensive pummeling was sparked by a Jamey Spithogiannis shot, which was ruled a home run due to the infamous "Rothman rule". With the game tied and the pressure on, the team's secret weapon, Alex "Brain" Regensburg steps up to the plate. On a 1-0 count Regensburg pulverises a Jason Appel "float ball" over the left field fence for the game winner. The ball went an estimated 478 feet. The game was then shortened due to weight room. The winning team's spirits were lifted once again as they watched the losing team do Wall Sits, while singing take me out to the ballgame. Later in the day a new play was introduced to the team. It is known to some as "The Monster Play" and to others as "Operation Iraqi Freedom" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Schenker".

4-19-03 -- Halftime Howie has just updated his ratings for the week. Plainview has moved up from #12 to #3. By the end of the season the team expects to be #1. Don't forget to check out the pitcher and hitter ratings as well! Click here for ratings! On a related topic; Jason Bonder's 17 Strikeout pitching performance is featured on the website also. (See Press section for details.)

In other news: The jackets are in! Everyone thank the Green family for taking care of this! The jackets feature the new team logo created by Mike Rutcofsky and Tom Hopkins. The jackets look mighty spiffy! Watch out for them in the halls and on the streets, being modeled by the Hawks.

4-16-03 -- Added two new sections League Leaders and Links & Games. The league leaders section will be updated weekly with the Nassau County leaders according to Newsday. The Links & Games section will be updated periodically. Currently it contains an addicting home run derby type game and a link to the Nassau County High School Sports website.
    POBJFK Hawks are 2-0.

4-3-03 -- Not only can Cip cook a mean burger, he can hit too! Check out the article...

3-25-03 -- In Plainview JFK's season opener and first non-leauge game of the season, Plainview shutdown a strong Bethpage team with a 6-1 victory in front of a packed house in the new and improved Plainview Stadium. Highlights included strong pitching performances from Jason Bonder and Ben Green, along with solid hitting throughout the plainview lineup. See the game results section for more details.

3-24-03 -- Mike Rutcofsky becomes a Captain along with the veteran captains Jason Bonder and Bryan Cippola.
