    RJF Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The list of veteran starters for the Junior Bulldogs Seniors squad includes left tackle/left guard Jason Scaringi, tight end/middle linebacker A.J. Godsil, outside linebacker and right tackle Jake Regina and fullback/defensive back Patrick Landrigan.

RUTHERFORD (Sept. 4, 2008) — The year was 1974 and a 9-year-old named Michael Paskas joined a brand new youth football team that came to be known as the Sharks, mostly because Jaws was the most popular movie at the time.

The Sharks, a third- and fourth-grade contingent, joined two other youth teams fielded by the then fledgling Rutherford Junior Football organization: the seventh- and eighth-grade Black Knights and the fifth- and sixth-grade Squires. All three of those teams played their home games on what is now diamonds five and sixth at the Memorial Fields complex.

Little did Paskas, or anyone else at the time, know that more than three decades later he would be helping to plan the 40th anniversary celebrations for what is now known as the Junior Bulldogs.

One of the most successful franchises in the Meadowlands Football League (MFL), the locals boast that entity’s best overall record during the past few years and the Junior Bulldogs will be looking for more of the same when they take to the field to kick off their 2008 slates by playing host to their Lyndhurst counterparts Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tryon Field.

The Junior Bulldogs compete in the MFL/South Division, along with teams from Wallington, Carlstadt/East Rutherford, Lyndhurst, North Arlington and Harrison, while Wood-Ridge, Elmwood Park, Hasbrouck Heights, Saddle Brook, New Milford and Ridgefield Park make up the MFL’s North Division.

All towns in the league field teams at the Senior (7th- and 8th-grade), Junior (5th- and 6th-grade) and Pee-Wee (3rd- and 4th-grade) levels.

When the Junior Bulldogs play Sunday afternoons, the Pee-Wee tilt kicks off at noon, followed by the Juniors battle at 1 p.m. and the Seniors skirmish at 2:30. When they play Saturday nights, games are set for 5, 6 and 7:30 p.m.

“We’re way up in our numbers this year and we couldn’t be happier,” enthused Paskas, the Junior Bulldogs organization’s trustee and also the president of the MFL.

“We’ve got about 40 seniors, 28 Juniors, 30 Pee-Wees and, this year, we’ve added a new level for 7-year-olds called the Might-Mites and we’ve got 25 kids at that level, so that’s a great way to start our 40th anniversary year.

“We’re going to be hosting the Meadowlands Super Bowl games and we’ll be honoring our 2005 championship team, as well as past coaches and other volunteers.”

The Mighty-Mites head coach is Anthony Finelli, who guided the Rutherford Junior Football (RJF) flag football all-stars to a 2007 championship. Among the starters for the Mites are quarterback/safety Sean Moran, fullback/linebacker Justin Finelli, tailback/cornerback Connor Cahill, two-way end Joe Fisicaro and two-way tackle Sebastian Gaeta.

Guiding the Pee-Wee players is first year head honcho Manny Medina, a veteran P-W team assistant. Among the key Pee-Wee players are tailback/linebacker Sebastian Medina, quarterback/defensive back Andrew Brito, two-way tackle Alex Maestre and two-way end John McAndrew.

Last year, the P-W squad went 9-1 overall, beat Harrison in the first round of the playoffs and then lost to Saddle Brook in the semi’s.

Keith Birchby, a Secaucus High alum, is the head Juniors coach and will guide a contingent that includes QB/safety Nick Birchby, tailback/linebacker Matt Vettoso, tailback/linebacker Matt Lambie and nose guard/center Dave Van Winkle. The Juniors went 2-6 in 2007.

The Seniors squad head coach is Mike Micek, a Clifton High alum and former U.S. Marine who guided the ’07 club into the playoffs.

The list of the top Seniors squad veterans includes tight end/linebacker A.J. Godsil, full back/end Pat Landrigan, tailback/cornerback Mike Carey and quarterbacks Rex Macmillan and John Watt.

Heading the more than 150 member RJF cheering corps is Tracy Paskas, a former Slippery Rock State Cheerleading contingent captain. In addition to game day action, the cheerleaders are planning a trip to Disney World this year for a national competition.

Bulldogs Sweep Mitch Morreale Out of Town!!
Rutherford Jr Football opened their season Sunday with a clean sweep of the Lyndhurst Bears. The Pee Wee Bulldogs (7-9 year olds) opened the day with a 20-0 win. Sebastian Medina had a 30-yard run for a touchdown followed by an Andrew Brito extra point. The little dogs took a 7-0 lead into halftime. The second half saw Tom Reid have several long runs. Bill Finn capped the drive off with a 7-yard touchdown run. Rutherford’s final score came on another big run (35 yards) by Medina in the third quarter. The Junior Bulldogs (10-11 year olds) defeated the Golden Bears of Lyndhurst by a score of 27-6. Defensively the Bulldogs played an excellent game. The outstanding defensive players are Justin Spaccevento, Zack Meister, Brendan Kauker, Dave VanWinkle, Julian Alvarez, Andrew Ortega, Nicholas Birchby, Matthew Vettoso, Matthew Lambie, Logan Gardner, and Matthew Kelly. Kelly had an interception late in the second quarter to stop a Bears drive. The offensive line of the Bulldogs are: Logan Gardner, Julian Alvarez, Bryan Rivas, Brendan Kauker, Zack Meister, Dave VanWinkle, and Andrew Ortega. They made the run game possible all day for the Bulldogs. The first score was by Matthew Kelly on the opening drive. Kelly ran in from three yards out. This touchdown was set up by a 22-yard pass from QB Nicholas Birchby to TE Andrew Ortega. The extra point was a pass from Birchby to Kelly making the score 7-0 Rutherford. Matthew Vettoso (Mr. Veebs) was next to score. Vettoso ran for a 60-yard touchdown behind the left side of the line. Fullback Matthew Lambie was able to he run for 15 yards thru the heart of the Bear defense on the march to the end zone, but the Bulldogs ran out of time in the first half. Score at halftime was 13-6 Rutherford. Donovan Tucker was the man to score next. Tucker had runs of thirty yards and six yards to eventually score. Kelly followed with the extra point. The final drive by the Bulldogs was Kelly scoring again. Birchby followed with the extra point. Final score Bulldogs 27 - Bears 6. The Rutherford Seniors (12-13 year olds) kicked off the 2008 season vs Lyndhurst with a solid win. The Bulldogs started with an onside kick that Mike Carey recovered giving the Bulldogs the ball. The Bulldogs started blasting right and left with running backs Patrick Landrigan and Anthony Ippolitto. A pass by quarterback Rex MacMillan to A.J. Godsil for 50 yards set the pace for the rest of the game. The Bulldog defense put pressure on the bears all game with tackles in the backfield. Captains Patrick Landrigan, A.J. Godsil, and Nick Ricciardi made sure that the bears could not move the ball at will. The remaining Bulldog defense of Jason Scaringi, Ryan Luna, Liam Gardner, Mike Carey, Manny Medina and Rex MacMillan kept the pressure on with the box defensive scheme. The offense kept clock control and just meticulously marched down the field. Three Sweeps by Q.B. Rex MacMillan resulted in two touchdowns for the bulldogs. Extra point kicks by Anthony Ippolitto gave the Bulldogs that edge going late into the game. A final score of 22-12 gave the Bulldogs the first win of the season and hopefully the start of a great year. RJF will be hosting Saddle Brook next Saturday at 4:00 pm on Tryon.

    RJF Plucks Falcons
The Rutherford Might Mites (7 yr olds) opened their first season with an impressive 19-6 victory over Saddle Brook. Sean Moran put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a 20 yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Connor Cahill followed with a 35 yard touchdown in the second quarter. Joey Fisicaro finished the scoring for Rutherford in the 3rd quarter with a 20 yard score. These runs were made possible by the blocking of Matt Birchby, Jack Melfa , Gregory Keller, Lawson Fisher and Sebastain Gaeta. The Bulldogs swarming defense was led by Nick Ippolito, Regan Landrigan, Justin Finelli and Eric Wernicki. The Rutherford Peewees (8-9 yr olds) took on the Saddle Brook Peewee’s in what turned out to be a defensive slugfest. The Bulldogs got the ball first and drove it down the field. With the tough offensive line play of AJ Maestre, Richie Marques, Anthony Avoletta, John Kelly, Thomas Reid, John McAndrew and Jesse Madden. The Bulldogs were able to set up the only score of the game when Andrew Brito hit John McAndrew over the middle with a 20 yard pass. John McAndrew gained an additional 9 yards after the catch to bring the ball down to the Saddle Brook 10yd line. On the ensuing play Sebastian Medina took the hand off and burst thru the heart of the defense for a 10 yd TD run. The FB Billy Finn was stopped short on the PAT attempt. At the end of 1st quarter the RJF Bulldogs lead 6-0. The 2nd quarter saw a preview of what the rest of the game would be, a great defensive battle by two very determined PeeWee teams. The 3rd and 4th qtrs were punctuated by some brutal hitting from both teams with neither team breaking. With 2 mins left in the game Rutherford went on defense one more time knowing that the game was on the line. Once again the Rutherford Peewee’s Defense of (Richie Marquez, John McAndrew, Thomas Reid, Anthony Avoletta, Brandon Sarnowski, Andrew Brito, Billy Finn, Jacob Munoz, John Kelly, Omar Abdedlhamid, Jesse Madden and Sebastian Medina) rose to the occasion and shut the Falcons down to preserve the win. A Total Team effort for the Rutherford Peewee’s who are now 2-0 . The RJF Juniors (10-11 yr olds) team was victorious over the Falcons of Saddle Brook by a score of 13-12. The Bulldogs scored on their opening drive on a three yard run by Matthew Vettoso, Mr. Veebs Jr. behind Logan Gardner, Julian Alvarez, Bryan Rivas and Brendan Kauker. The touchdown was set up by a forty yard run over the right side by Matthew Kelly, behind Andrew Ortega, Dave Van Winkle, Zack Meister and lead blockers Vettoso and Lambie. Kelly was able to convert the extra point. Saddle Brook was able to answer the Bulldogs on their first drive, but failed to convert the ever crucial extra point. The extra point was stopped by Mattew Vettoso on an excellent sweep read, darting in and taking down the ball carrier for a loss. The next drive was more of the ground attack by Matthew Vettoso, Matthew Kelly, Donovan Tucker, and Matthew Lambie. Highlights on the eventual stalled drive was a thirty yard pass from qb Nicholas Birchby to "the Bus" Logan Gardner. After stopping the Falcons, the Bulldogs were on the march to the end zone again, this time they would not be denied. Nicholas Birchby passed to Andrew Ortega for eighteen yards putting the Bulldogs on the six yard line. Donovan Tucker ran of tackle on the left side and was able to get the score, increasing the lead to 13-6. The Falcons managed to score in the second half closing the gap to 13-12. But it was the defense of the Bulldogs that would not allow the Falcons the victory. Touchdown saving tackles by Matthew Vettoso and Matthew Lambie prevented scores by the Falcons on drives which would eventually stall. An excellent open field one-on-one tackle by defensive corner Justin Spaccavento dropped the Falcon ball carrier for a big loss and the prevention of a first down. Lastly, it was Zack Meister on defensive left end with the huge fourth down tackle that ended the Falcon offense on the day. Kelly ran for 80 of the 122 yards on the day and helped the Bulldogs in their ball control offense and their narrow victory.
The Rutherford Senior Bulldogs (12 and 13 year olds) came prepared for a game they knew was going to be a battle. The defending 2007 Super Bowl champion Saddle Brook Falcons proved to be a team not to go down easily. The Bulldogs won the coin toss but decided to put their stellar defense on the field. It proved to be a good decision as on the first play of the game, the Falcons QB threw the ball for an interception into the diving hands of LB Liam Gardner. The Bulldog offense came out and executed a no huddle/hurry up offense for the first three plays and went 45 yards with the running of tailbacks Patrick Landrigan, Anthony Ippolito and a quick pass from QB Rex MacMillan to TE AJ Godsil. Patrick Landrigan finished the drive with a run off the tackle for the quick score. The extra point was no good making the score 6-0 Rutherford. The Falcons tried running and passing on the following possession but the Bulldog defense led by Captains AJ Godsil, Nick Ricciardi, Patrick Landrigan and David Choi made sure that no yardage was gained. Saddle Brook was stuffing the line making it 4th and 7 when MacMillan threw a perfect screen pass to Landrigan who took it for 45 yards behind the blocking of TE Ryan Luna, Ryan Monaghan, LT Jason Scaringi and RG Nick Ricciardi. After a couple of blasts off tackle, Landrigan took it in for his second score of the night. A wide left extra point kick attempt made the score 12-0 Bulldogs. With 5 minutes left in the first half, the Bulldog defense made it three and out and the offense ran the clock out to bring it to halftime. In the third quarter, Rutherford got the ball and tried to march down the field but the Falcons defense held strong. The Falcons offense came out in the spread formation and #44 had an amazing run up the middle for a 70 yard touchdown. A missed extra point made the score 12-6 Bulldogs. The Bulldogs offense came out in their spread and Landrigan ran the ball effectively for an average of 8 yards a play. QB Rex MacMillan then threw a beautiful pass to AJ Godsil for what looked like a 60 yard gain, but a flag on the play brought the play back. The offense did not let that get to them as the next play, MacMillan hit Anthony Ippolito with a slant that went for 40 yards bringing us to the end of the quarter. The offense controlled the clock for the 4th quarter with blasts off tackle by Landrigan and Ippolito. QB MacMillan then took a keeper and swept to the right side behind JJ Watt, Ippolito, Landrigan and the offensive line of Gardner, Regina and Godsil resulting in a touchdown. The extra point kick by Ippolito was good this time making the score 20-6 Rutherford. The Falcons wanted to score quick and came out spread again. The Bulldog defense swarmed and made great tackles in the backfield by Scaringi, Ricciardi, Perchun, Choi, Regina, Gardner, Ippolito and Godsil. When Saddle Brook was able to put the ball in the air, Cornerbacks Mike Carey (who also had an onside kick recovery in the second half) and JJ Watt made sure the receivers were blanketed. Saddle Brook could not get a first down and punted deep from their end zone as time ran out. This gives the Bulldogs their second win of the season making the Seniors record 2-0. The RJF program plays in Ridgefield park next weekend and is an overall 7-0 in 2008.

The Rutherford Mighty Mites (7 yr olds) won a physical battle against River Dell on Saturday 13 –0, to push their record to 2 – 0. Sean Moran scored two touchdowns to give him four on the season. Late in the second qtr Sean Moran but the bulldogs on the scoreboard, the extra point failed. Early in the fourth qtr Connor Cahill broke off a 60 yard run that set up Sean’s second touchdown. Matt Birchby added the extra point when he went into the end zone untouched. Regan Landrigan ran extremely hard all day. At one point it seemed he had half the River Dell defenders on his back as he was fighting for more yards. Jason Moss provided much needed depth when the Bulldogs starting running backs all got nicked at one point or another. The offensive line led by Jack Melfa, Gregory Keller, Nick Ippolito and Sebastain Gaeta had a battle on their hands with the physical front of River Dell. The Bulldogs defense was very impressive two weeks in a row. In the first half Joe Fisicario, Lawson Fisher and Connor Cahill made multiple tackles. In the second half Justin Finelli and Eric Wiernicki led the defense in keeping the River Dell squad out of the end zone. The Rutherford Junior Peewee’s (8 & 9 yr olds) took on the Harrison Blue Tide Peewee’s this weekend. The Bulldogs (3-0) got the ball first and after managing a couple of first downs stalled at the Harrison 30 yard line. The Bulldogs defense then went to work holding the Blue Tide to 4 and out. The Bulldogs took their 2nd possession and behind the running of Andrew Brito took it down to the Blue Tide 12 yard line. On the next play Brito took off around the left side of the defense and scrambled for a 12yd TD. The PAT was stopped short. 1st Qtr Bulldogs 6 Harrison 0. In the 2nd Qtr the Bulldogs again went to work on defense holding Harrison to another 4 and out. When the bulldogs got the ball back the Blue Tide returned the favor by holding Rutherford to 4 and out. Harrisons’ lone TD came on their next possession when their running back broke a busted play off tackle and scrambled 55 yards for a TD. Harrison was able to convert the extra point to take a 7-6 lead with 20 seconds left before the half. After the kickoff the Bulldogs came back on offense for one last play before the half. Brito hit Sebastian Medina with a 10 yd pass. Medina was able to take the pass and turn it into a 30 yd TD run. The PAT was stopped short again. Halftime Bulldogs 12 Harrison 7. In the 3rd Qtr the Bulldogs controlled the game on the ground behind the offensive line surge of Jesse Madden, AJ Maestre, Anthony Avoletta, Brian Gonzalez, Brandon Sarnowsky, Thomas Reid and John McAndrew. The Bulldogs were able to move to the Harrison 10 yard line but shot themselves in the foot with an offside’s penalty and holding. After the drive stalled the Bulldogs went back on defense and held the Blue Tide to their own side of the 50 yd line. The 4th Qtr saw both teams trying to pound the ball out. Rutherford once again was able to move the ball but could not capitalize on their possession. With time running out once again the Rutherford Peewee’s Defense (Richie Marques, John McAndrew, Thomas Reid, Anthony Avoletta, Brandon Sarnowski, Andrew Brito, Billy Finn, Jacob Munoz, John Kelly, Omar Abdedlhamid, Jesse Madden and Sebastian Medina) were asked to preserve the win and once again they were able to deliver. The Bulldogs were then able to run out the clock. The Jr Bulldogs (10 & 11 yr olds) defeated the Tide in their own back yard by a score of 26 - 6. The Tide jumped out to an early lead with a defensive score. A pass from qb Nicholas Birchby to Logan Gardner was picked off and returned for a long score. From that moment on it was all Bulldogs (3-0). Matthew Kelly lead the Bulldogs ground attack with 118 rushing yards and one touchdown averaging 6.2 yards per run. Running behind the right offensive line of Zack Meister, Dave Van Winkle, and Andrew Ortega. Matthew Vettoso averaged 5.3 yards per run and also scored a touchdown around the left side of the line of Bredan Kauker, Bryan Rivas, Julian Alverez, and Logan Gardner. After shaking off the interception, Birchby was able to get back on track with his passing game. Highlights were completions to Matthew Lambie for a 3 yard extra point, 13 yards to Logan Gardner, and 26 yards to Andrew Ortega for a touchdown. Matthew Lambie ran the ball up the middle of the field for the fourth and final touchdown. The Rutherford Bulldog Seniors (7th and 8th grade) finished the night off with a solid win. On the opening kickoff, Anthony Ippolito kicked an onside kick that was recovered by Rutherford. Unfortunately two plays later, the Bulldogs (3-0) turned the ball over unable to score. The Bulldog defense came out and showed that they we're going to control the rest of the game. A sack by MLB Liam Gardner and backfield tackles by Nick Ricciardi and Jason Scaringi forced Harrison to punt. On the next play, Bulldog Running Back and Captain Patrick Landrigan rumbled down the field knocking defenders out of the way for a 30 yd.touchdown. The extra point kick was no good making it 6-0 Bulldogs. Throughout the rest of the game, the Bulldog defense pressured Harrison with multiple sacks and backfield tackles by Linebackers AJ Godsil, Liam Gardner and Jake Regina. The defensive line of Nick Ricciardi, Jason Scaringi, David Choi, Patrick Landrigan, Mike Perchun and Anthony Ippolito would not let Harrison get a first down the entire game. On the Offensive side of the ball, QB Rex MacMillan spread the ball around with completions to AJ Godsil, JJ Watt, Ryan Luna and Anthony Ippolito. The running game put the scores on the board as Landrigan ran his second TD of the game for 40 yards and MacMillan swept outside on a keeper that also went 40 yards for the score. The Bulldogs finished the win with a final score of 22-0. RJF will take its 11-0 program on the road to Ridgefield park next Saturday night.

RJF Mites, Pee Wees & Juniors Undefeated !!!
The Rutherford Mighty Mites (7 year olds) pushed their record to 3-0 on Sunday with a 19 – 0 victory over Dumont. On the first offensive play for Rutherford, Reagan Landrigan scored on a 50 yard run off left tackle, Justin Finelli scored the extra point. On Rutherford’s second possession after a fumble recovery by Gregory Keller, Connor Cahill scored on a 20 yard run. Late in the second quarter Sean Moran scored on 35 yard run to finish the scoring for Rutherford. In the second half Matt Birchby and Justin Finelli had touchdown runs of 50 yards each wiped off the board by penalties. The offensive line made huge holes all day led by Jack Melfa, Eric Wernicki, Joey Fisicaro. The stout Rutherford defense led by Nick Ippolito, Owen Meister, Jason Moss and Sebastian Gaeta harassed Dumont all day for their second consecutive shut out. The Pee Wees (8 and 9 yr olds) kept their undefeated record in tact, winning 19-0. On the Bulldogs first play from scrimmage Sebastian Medina sliced and diced his way downfield for a 25yd gain before being brought down at the Scarlets 20yd line. The Bulldogs continued their running attack with Omar Abdedlhamid, pounding the ball down to the RP 2 yd line. The Bulldogs were poised to score when the slippery football was fumbled away to the Scarlets. The RP contingent went on offense and on 4th down fumbled the ball. Brandon Sarnowsky recovered it for the Bulldogs. The Dogs went to work from the RP 10 yd line with Andrew Brito blasting it thru the line for a 10yd TD run. Billy Finn’s PAT attempt was no good. After the kickoff, RP moved the ball to the Bulldogs 15 yd line with the help of two costly penalties, a pass interference and an offsides. At their own 15 yd line the Bulldog’s defense stiffened and was able to hold back the RP offense. The halftime score was Bulldogs 6 Ridgefield Park 0. RP got the ball back in the 2nd half but were not able to get a 1st down. The Bulldogs went to work from the 45 yd line were Sebastian Medina took a hand off and ran for a 35yd TD. Andrew Brito ran the Extra point in to make the score Bulldogs 13 Scarlets 0. The opponent took the ensuing kickoff and managed two 1st downs before bogging down on their own 40yd line. The Bulldogs again went to work this time behind the running of Richard Marques who was chewing up yardage at 4-5 yd a clip. Once again Sebastian Medina took the hand off and rambled for a 25yd TD run. Tyler Aponte’s extra point attempt was no good. Bulldogs 19 RP 0. The Bulldogs were able to preserve the shutout thanks to the defensive efforts of Michael Desteno, Richard Doren, Anthony Dubenczic, Bryant Gonzalez, Liam Lynch, Carlos Monterrosa, Dylan Peterson, John Kelly, Jacob Munoz and Saajid Steward. The Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (5th & 6th graders) were victorious over the Ridgefield Park Scarlet Knights by a score of 13 - 0. It was a rainy Saturday at the muddy Scarlet field. Passing would surely be difficult so the Bulldogs elected to keep the ball on the ground for most of the day. It was Matthew Kelly who led the Bulldog ground game with 113 yard on 17 rushes. Kelly ran behind the right side of the line of Joseph Mauro, Dave Van Winkle, and Andrew Ortega. Fullback Matthew Lambie ran the ball inside the tackles for 25 yards behind guards Bryan Rivas, Joseph Mauro and center Brendan Kauker. It was quarterback Nicholas Birchby with one of the few passes to Andrew Ortega for the second and final score. With Cuban stealth, Ortega made his way behind the Scarlet linebackers and walked into the end zone untouched. This game marked the return of tailback Jaret "the Pony" Buckley. Buckley ran for 5 yards on two carries for the Bulldogs and helped control the ball down the stretch, killing the clock for the win. Defensively it was Matthew Vettoso who led the Bulldogs. Vettoso had a blocked punt that helped rally the Bulldogs to their first score. Justin Spaccavento and Nicholas Birchby kept outside contain for the defense. But it was the heart of the Bulldog defense that provided the shutout. The defensive line of Joseph Mauro, Brendan Kauker, Dave Van Winkle, Julian Alvarez, and Andrew Ortega were dominant on the line. Linebackers Matthew Vettoso, Matthew Kelly, Logan Gardner, and Matthew Lambie came up hard on runs and prevented pass completions. This game was dedicatred to Zack "Slug" Meister who broke his leg in practice this week. The Junior Bulldogs are now 4-0. The Rutherford Bulldog Seniors (7th & 8th grade) suffered their first loss of the season vs. the RP Senior Scarlets. On the opening kickoff, Rutherford onside kicked and recovered the ball but was unable to move down the field. On the Scarlets first possession, a fumble by a Scarlet receiver was scooped up by a teammate and ran in for a touchdown. The extra point kick was no good making it 6-0 Ridgefield Park. Rutherford started to march down the field but a 15 yard run for a first down by Parick Landrigan was negated by a penalty flag. Ridgefield Park was able to move down the field for a second score, missing the extra point kick making it 12-0 Ridgefield Park. With 3 minutes left in the first half, O.L.B. Jake Regina intercepted a pass and ran it back 60 yards putting the Bulldogs on the scoreboard. A missed extra point made it 12-6 in favor of R.P. At the beginning of the 3rd quarter, the bulldog offense stalled again as a turnover stopped the drive. The following play, D.E. Anthony Ippolito picked up a fumble by the Scarlets QB (Jeff Wilkinson) and ran it in 50 yards for the touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good making it 12-12. The Scarlets scored again late in the second half making it 18-12. The Bulldog defense tried to stall the Scarlets offense with tackles in the backfield by multiple Bulldog defenders but the Scarlets we're able to get the first down and ended the game by taking a knee with a final score 18-12 Ridgefield Park. The Seniors record goes to 3-1 and the RJF program will have Wallingotn visit on Saturday the 4th with the Mites starting the action at 4 pm. RJF will be doing their Town Canvassing Saturday morning also, please help support our program. Please check our website for details

    Seniors of the Week
The Senior Cheerleaders - Offensively, they did not miss one blocking assignemnt nor did they fumble. They scored the same amount of points as the boys (0). Defensively, they did not miss one tackle and gave up less points and looked better after the game vs Ridgefield Park. Their halftime show was great & they were very loud...they did their job vs Ridgefield Park!!

    BULLDOGS BEAT PANTHERS

Paramus answered on the next play to take the lead 7–6. In the second quarter Sean Moran scored his team leading 6th touchdown, when he went around the right end for a 45 yard run to put Rutherford up 12 - 7. Paramus then scored before the half was over to make the score 14- 12. Paramus scored in the third and early fourth quarter after 2 turnovers by Rutherford. Late in the fourth quarter Sean Moran hooked up with Joey Fisicaro on a 55 yard pass for a touchdown. Connor Cahill added the extra point to make the score 27 –19. The Rutherford defense was lead by Gregory Keller and Nick Ippolitto, who made many impressive tackles all over the field. The first place Rutherford Peewee’s (5-0) took on the Wallington Panthers this weekend. The Bulldogs first play from scrimmage saw Sebastian Medina slice and dice his way downfield for a 25 yd gain before being brought down at the Wallington 15 yd line. The Bulldogs continued their running attack with Omar Abdedlhamid pounding the ball down to the Panthers 8 yd line. Then Andrew Brito rambled in for an 8yd TD run. The PAT attempt by Billy Finn was no good. The Panthers went on the offensive and were held to 4 and out. After a Panther punt down to the Bulldogs own 30 yd line, the Bulldogs went to work and again chewed up huge amounts of yards taking the ball down to the panther 5 yd line. At the 5 yd line Omar Abdedlhamid burst thru the middle for a 5 yd TD run. Billy Finn ran in the PAT to make the score Bulldogs 13 Panthers 0. The Bulldogs received the kickoff in the 3rd qtr and once again marched it down field. Sebastian Medina set up the ensuing TD with two huge runs. John McAndrew iced the game with a 10 yd TD run. Little John resembled his father of the late 70’s who played on the undefeated and unscored upon Rutherford Rough Riders of the NJJFL. The PAT attempt by Tyler Aponte was no good. Bulldogs 19 Panthers 0. The Bulldogs were able to preserve the shutout thanks to the defensive efforts of Michael Desteno, Richard Doren, Anthony Dubenczic, Richie Marques, Bryant Gonzalez, Carlos Monterrosa, Jack Melfa, Dylan Peterson, John Kelly, Jacob Munoz, and Sean Moren. The first place Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (5-0) had a very balanced offensive attack in their 20 - 0 win over the Wallington Panthers this weekend in Tryon field. The first score on the day was by Matthew Kelly. Kelly had 44 yards on the ground and 64 yards receiving plus an extra point conversion. Justin Spaccavento was next to score. Justin scored from 33 yards out and had an average of 20.5 yards per run. Donovan "half-pint" Tucker had 135 yards on the ground on five carries for an average of 27 yards per carry. Matthew Vettoso and Matthew Lambie each contributed with 36 and 25 yards respectively while Vettoso also had a fumble recovery. There was a "pony" sighting at the game. Jaret "the Pony" Buckley entered the game with a gallop of three yards. In the air, it was Nicholas Birchby who threw for 100 yards on the day, one touchdown pass, and one extra point pass. In addition to the passes to Kelly, it was Birchby to Ortega for 36 yards. It was the line of scrimmage of Logan Gardner, Julian Alvarez, Bryan Rivas, Brendan Kauker, Ben Montijo, Dave VanWinkle, and Andrew Ortega that led to the offensive success. The Bulldogs posted over 400 yards of total offense on their way to victory, and dominance of the Panthers. The Junior Bulldogs travel to East Rutherford this weekend to settle the battle of the unbeatens at Riggins field. The Rutherford Senior Bulldogs (7th and 8th grade) came out determined to play a solid game. They set the pace early with an onside kick opening the game and being recovered by Patrick Landrigan on the Wallington 40 yard line. Landrigan then got the ball 6 plays in a row running off tackle and scoring the T.D. The extra point kick by Anthony Ippolito was good making it 8-0 Rutherford. The Bulldog defense came out but the Panthers started to move the ball downfield. On 2nd and goal on the 6 yard line cornerback J.J. Watt intercepted the ball in the end zone stopping the drive. The offense then came out and ran their no-huddle spread for the rest of the game. Quarterback Rex MacMillan led the offense downfield completing passes to J.J. Watt, Anthony Ippolito, Ryan Luna and A.J. Godsil. Patrick Landrigan also ran the ball hard all game. By halftime, the score was 32-6 Rutherford. Touchdowns by A.J. Godsil, J.J. Watt and Patrick Landrigan (2) made up the lopsided score. In the second half, Rutherford controlled the clock and Q.B. Rex MacMillan scored on a 40 yard run. The offensive line of Nicholas Ricciardi, Jason Scaringi, Anthony Appolito, Liam Gardner and Jake Regina played an outstanding game giving up no sacks and no tackles in the backfield. On defense, cornerbacks J.J. Watt and David Peterson did not allow the Panthers to throw downfield. Pressure from Linebackers Liam Gardner, Jake Regina , A.J. Godsil and the front of Ricciardi, Scaringi, David Choi, John Luzzi, Ippolito and Landrigan made the running game of the Panthers non-existent. The 4th quarter featured Ryan Monaghan, David Petterson, Quamel Pope, Austin Kaulker and Jah'lil Halstead in the backfield. The offensive line of Geo Lara, Michael Perchun, Austin Okula, Austin Cruz, Trip Forsythe, Noel Lazo, John Luzzi, and Vishnu Murthy controlled the clock and kept getting first downs ending the game with a final score of 40-6 Bulldogs. Rutherford will be on the road in East Rutherford (Riggins Field) this weekend this play for first place in the Southern Division in all three levels.

Rutherford had many big runs from Zack Boubidi, Joey Fisicaro, Eric Wernicki during the day. The offensive line made big holes all day lead by Bryan Hennessy, Dennis Gentile, Jack Melfa, Greg Keller, Chris Arce, and Owen Meister. The Rutherford Peewee’s took on the East Rutherford Wildcats this weekend in a battle for 1st place. The Bulldogs kicked off to start the game. The Wildcats received and started play from their own 40yd line. The Bulldog’s defense held their ground and held the Wildcats to four and out. The Bulldogs got the ball on their own 30 and started driving downfield before fumbling on the Wildcats 25 yd line. The Wildcats recovered and went back on offense. Once again the Bulldog’s defense held and the Wildcats had to punt. The Wildcat’s punt was fumbled by the Bulldogs and the Wildcats recovered it on the Bulldogs 25yd line. The Cats once again went on offense and with the help of a couple of offsides calls were able to move the ball down to the Bulldogs 10yd line. The Bulldogs defense stiffened and pushed the wildcats back 10yds over the next four downs. The Dogs got the ball back on their own 20 yd and went to work. After a couple of 1st downs Andrew Brito turned a broken play into a huge 40yd run bringing the ball down to the wildcats 6 yd line. Omar Abdedlhamid was able to run the ball in for a 6 yd TD run. The PAT was no good. Halftime score Bulldogs 6 Wildcats 0. In the 2nd half the Bulldogs got the ball and drove it down the field behind the tough running of Andrew Brito, Omar Abdedlhamid, Sebastian Medina and Billy Finn. The Bulldogs were on the Wildcats 15 yd line when Andrew Brito broke loose for a 15yd TD run. The PAT attempt by Billy Finn was no good. Bulldogs 12 Wildcats 0. After kicking off to the Wildcats the Bulldog’s defense went back to work and this time was completely suffocating, forcing the Wildcats to punt once again. The Bulldogs started their 3rd scoring drive from their own 35yd line. Sebastian Medina took the hand off and rambled thru the heart of the defense for huge 35yd gain. The Bulldogs were once again marching downfield this time it was Sebastian Medina who punched in the Bulldogs 3rd TD from 7 yds out. Omar Abdedlhamid ran in the PAT to make the score Bulldogs 19 Wildcats 0. The Bulldogs defense had a stellar night but the game was won for the Bulldogs by the offensive line play of Thomas Reid, Anthony Avoletta, Richard Marques, Bryant Gonzalez, AJ Maestre, Jesse Madden and John McAndrew. They opened huge holes all night for the Rutherford backs. The Bulldogs are now 6-0 and have wrapped up the Southern Division Championship. The Junior Bulldogs suffered their first defeat by a score of 26 - 6. It was the Wildcats of East Rutherford who scored first on a pass play making the score 6 - 0. Most of the fist half was a defensive battle. With minutes left the Bulldogs went to the spread offense from the Wildcat 40 yard line. It was quaterback Nicholas Birchby with completions to multiple receivers of Matthew Vettoso, Matthew Lambie, and Andrew Ortega moving the ball down to the three yard line. Birchby to Ortega for the score with 5 seconds left tied the game at half time 6- 6. But the Bulldogs were not up to the challege in the second half and unable to score. Three turnovers in the second half put the Bulldogs on their heals and were unable to make the defensive stops. The Junior Bulldogs hope to get back on track returning home to far the Vikings of North Arlington. The Rutherford Senior Bulldogs ( 7th & 8th grade) suffered their second loss of the season diminishing any hope of them winning the Southern Division. The Wildcats opened up with a 60 yard TD run on the first play of the game setting the tone for the rest of the game. The Bulldogs played from behind the entire game limiting the offense to the play selection. Patrick Landrigan played hard as usual trying to get the Bulldogs back into the game. He had several rushes of 10+ yards to bring them down to the goal line as QB Rex MacMillan punched it in for the only Rutherford score of the night. One of the few offensive highlights was an Anthony Ippolito catch for 60 yards bringing the Dogs down to the goal line. The final score of 32-8 Widcats only emphasized what kind of game it was. The Seniors are looking to bounce back from this loss to finish the regular season strong. The Playoff hunt is on with two regular season games remaining and the Seniors goal is to make a deep push into the Playoffs. Rutherford will be hosting North Arlington next Saturday and will have “Senior Day” in which all Senior players and Cheerleaders will be recognized with their guardians.

    BULLDOGS SINK VIKINGS
Rutherford’s Mighty Mites (7 year olds) opened the day with a win over Hawthorne, raising their record to 6-1. The Rutherford Peewee’s (8 & 9 year olds) took on the North Arlington Vikings this weekend. The Bulldogs took the opening kick off and on the 1st play from scrimmage Sebastian Medina took off for a 40yd TD run. Omar Abdedlhamid ran in the PAT to make the score Bulldogs 7 Vikings 0. On the ensuing kickoff the Vikings fumbled and the Bulldogs recovered it on the Viking 35yd line. Their Andrew Brito took a broken play and turned it into a 35yd TD run. Billy Finn ran in the PAT to make the score Bulldogs 14 Vikings 0. The Vikings took the ensuing kick off and started on their own 40yd line. The Vikings ran two plays before fumbling the ball. Rutherford’s John Kelly recovered for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs went back to work on offense where Thomas Reid took a hand off and turned on the afterburners to blaze his way downfield for a 40yd TD run. John McAndrew ran in the PAT to make the score Bulldogs 21 Vikings 0. The second half saw the Bulldogs setup their final TD when Sean Moran took a QB keeper and rambled downfield for a huge 25yd gain. Their Jacob Munoz took a handoff and burst thru the line for a 20yd TD run. Michael DeSteno ran in the PAT to cap the scoring. The Bulldogs once again had a good team outing with the offensive line play of Thomas Reid, Anthony Avoletta, Richard Marques, Bryant Gonzalez, AJ Maestre, Jesse Madden and John McAndrew. Defensively the Bulldogs once again played well with Anthony Avoletta having another good defensive effort following his break thru performance of 6 tackles at the East Rutherford game. The Bulldogs are now 7-0 and were able to preserve the shutout thanks to the defensive efforts of Michael DeSteno, Tyler Aponte, Richard Doren, Anthony Dubenczic, Bryant Gonzalez, Liam Lynch, Carlos Monterrosa, Dylan Peterson, David Casanova, Joe Fisacaro, Farres Eldehshan, John Kelly and Jacob Munoz. The Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (10 & 11 year olds) get back on track this week defeating the Vikings of North Arlington by a score of 25 - 12. It was Justin Spaccavento with a twenty-four yard touch down run to start the scoring for the Bulldogs. It was Spaccavento again to convert the extra point. Spaccavanto was successful behind the blocking of Logan Gardner, Julian Alvarez, Bryan Rivas, Kirby Vargas, and Brendan Kauker. It was the Vikings turn to score, but the Bulldogs would have none of that as linebacker Matthew Vettoso intercepted a Viking pass to start the march to the end zone again. This time it was quarterback Nicholas Birchby to tight end Anrew Ortega from thirty yards out. The third score was set up by the same combo of Birchby to Ortega, this time for forty-five yards. Matthew Kelly was able to complete the drive by running the last 3 yards on the ground. Kelly ran behind offensive line of Andrew Ortega, Dave VanWinkle and Ben Montijo. Defensively the Bulldogs were dominating and were ahead by a score of 19-0, but the Vikings would not quit and closed the gap on two long touchdown runs to make the score 19-12. But the Bulldogs refused to lose and got back to basics on the ground game. Matthew Kelly and Justin Spaccavento followed fullback Matthew Lambie and ran the ball until Kelly finally scored the last touchdown of the game. The Rutherford Bulldog Seniors (7th & 8th Grade) got back to their winning ways with a decisive win over the Vikings. The Bulldog defense put up another shutout not allowing the Vikings offense to move the ball at all. Interceptions by Cornerback Manny Medina and Linebacker Patrick Landrigan came at vital times in the game. Defensive End Anthony Ippolito had a huge sack for 12 yards that also highlighted the defensive side of the ball. Linebackers Jason Scaringi and Jake Regina made sure that no one ran up the middle. The defensive line of Nick Ricciardi, John Luzzi, Michael Perchun and Anthony Appolito put pressure on the backfield the entire game. When the offense stepped onto the field, Patrick Landrigan ran for 40 yards for his first score of the night and caught a screen pass that went 45 yards for another T.D. Landrigan showed that he is not only a bull in the backfield but also has some finesse as he made Barry Sanders like moves running downfield. QB Rex MacMillan threw to multiple receivers throughout the game including JJ Watt and Anthony Ippolito who made a nice grab downfield for 30 yards over the Viking defender. The Offense also showed their Single Wing formation this week. The offensive formation invented by Pop Warner in 1912 is making a comeback with the "Wildcat" formation now being played at both college and pro levels. Rex MacMillan scored one of his three touchdowns of the night with a mis-direction play out of the single wing running down the sideline untouched. The Bulldogs ended the first half with a score of 38-0. The second half featured the "Killer B" team coming out and controlling the clock for the rest of the game. Ryan Monaghan ran the offense like a Swiss watch as running backs David Petterson. Austin Kaulker, Quamel Pope and Jah'lil Halstead ran down the field. A fingertip pass caught by Chris Soto kept the offense moving. The defense did not allow the Vikings to score and was punctuated with an interception by cornerback Jimmy Hadrava who is welcomed back on the playing field after an injury caused him to miss the first two months of the season. The Seniors want to keep the momentum as they finish the regular season next week and go into the playoffs. RJF is on the road this week in Hasbrouck Heights Sunday night at 4:30 pm.

RJF Wins 2 of the Weekends 4
Rutherford Mighty Mites extended their record to 6 – 1 with a hard fought victory over New Milford. With the running of Connor Cahill, Regan Landrigan and the passing combination of Sean Moran to Joey Fiscaro, the bulldogs moved the ball up and down the field but could not find the end zone until Sean Moran scored on a 20 yard run midway thru the second qtr, Sean added to extra point also. New Milford answered back in third qtr to tie the score 7–7. Zack Boubadi had an impressive run that got Rutherford in New Milford territory where another drive stalled. The defense again held New Milford led by Greg Keller and Eric Werncicki. Rutherford got the ball to start the 4th qtr and on the second play Regan Landrigan went 50 yards off on left tackle for the winning score. Sean Moran added the extra point. The offense did another great job of blocking led by Jack Melfa, Matt Birchby and Justin Finelli. The Bulldogs swarming defense was led by Lawson Fisher, Jason Moss and Sebastain Gaeta smothered New Milford all day. Rutherford Bulldogs play Saddle Brook next Sunday in New Milford for their last game of the year. The Rutherford Junior Peewee’s took on the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators this weekend. Both teams were previously undefeated and in the first quarter played like it. Hasbrouck Heights scored 1st and took a 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs took the kick off and marched the ball down the field to the Aviator 8 yard line where the Bulldogs were stopped short of the 1st down and had to turn the ball over on downs. The Aviators took the ball and once again marched down the field to take a 13 -0 lead into halftime. In the 3rd quarter the Bulldogs once again went on offense and once again were turned away by a stingy Aviator defense. The final score of the game came with 4 minutes left in the game when the Aviators punched it in to make the score 19-0. The Senior Bulldogs(7th & 8th grade) finished the regular season with a strong win. The first half of the game was a defensive battle as Hasbrouck Heights put up the first score of the night making it 6-0 H.H. The Bulldogs responded with multiple rushes by Patrick Landrigan, Anthony Ippolito and the touchdown score by Q.B. Rex MacMillan. Anthony Ippolito made the extra point kick making it 8-6 Rutherford. The first half went back and forth between the two defenses with the Bulldog linebacker corps of AJ Godsil, Liam Gardner, Patrick Landrigan and Jake Regina filling the gaps and stretching out the Heights offense. D-linemen Jason Scaringi, Nick Ricciardi and Anthony Appolito had multiple tackles and sacks in the backfield. At the start of the second half the Bulldogs got a kickstart with Rex MacMillan returning the kickoff down to the Heights 30 yard line. Two plays later RB Patrick Landrigan fought his way for the score on a counter off the right side. The extra point was no good making it 14-6 Rutherford. After the defense pushed Heights backwards to make it 4th down and 30, AJ Godsil blocked the punt with Anthony Ippolito recovering it giving the Bulldogs great field position. QB Rex MacMillan started spreading the ball around with passes to JJ Watt, AJ Godsil, Jimmy Hadrava and a nice grab off a slant route by Ippolito who brought it down to the 4 yard line. The next play, Ippolito ran it in for the score. With the extra point good, the score was now 22-6 Bulldogs. Hasbrouck Heights would not quit though, as they scored on the next drive. The extra point was blocked by Scaringi, Ricciardi and Godsil rushing through the middle. With the score 22-12, Hasbrouck Heights recovered an onside kick trying to score quickly. The Bulldog defense stopped them again. With 4th down again, Patrick Landrigan and Nick Ricciardi rushed in to block the punt giving the Bulldogs great field position again. With less than 4 minutes remaining, Anthony Ippolito capped off his stellar performance on Sunday night with a 40 yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. The extra point was no good but the score remained the same as the game ended with a final of 28-12 Rutherford.

Saturday night in East Rutherford the Pee Wee Bulldogs will play Saddle Brook. On Sunday, our Senior Bulldogs will play Ridgefield Park in Hasbrouck Hts.

    First Round of Playoffs
The Rutherford Bulldogs Mighty Mites played Saddle Brook on Sunday in New Milford in the 2008 Mighty Mite Day Tournament. The Bulldogs prevailed against a physical Saddle Brook team 19 –0. Sean Moran scored on the first drive of the day to put Rutherford up 6- 0 the extra point was stopped. In the second quarter Sean Moran went around the left end for his second score of the day, Justin Finelli added the extra point on a run off left tackle. The third quarter featured a stellar defense performance led by Jason Moss, Zack Bouabidi and Matt Severino kept the Saddle Brook Falcons of the board. Early in the fourth quarter the connection of Sean Moran to Joey Fisicaro hooked up for a thirty yard gain down to the five yard line, where Regan Landrigam punched in the final score for Rutherford. The Rutherford defense led by Greg Keller, Nick Ippolito, Lawson Fisher, Connor Cahill and Justin Finelli swarmed the Saddle Brook offense forcing many turnovers. The offense line facing a stiff challenge against the large defensive from of Saddle Brook, led by Jack Melfa, Sebastian Gaeta and Matt Birchby made the holes possible for the Bulldogs to move the ball down the field for multiple scores. The Rutherford Mighty Mites wrapped up their inaugural season with a very successful 7 – 1 record. The Rutherford Junior Peewee’s opened the 1st round of the playoffs against the North Arlington Vikings this weekend. The bulldogs took the opening kick off and drove it the length of the field with Andrew Brito busting thru the middle for a 25 yard TD run. The PAT attempt by Thomas Reid was good to make the score Bulldogs 7 Vikings 0. On the ensuing kickoff the Vikings were held to four and out. The Bulldogs took the ball on the Vikings 35yard line where after a couple of runs by John Kelly, John McAndrew, Thomas Reid, Sebastian Medina and Omar AbdedlHamid put the ball on the Viking 15yd line. Andrew Brito once again burst thru the middle for a 15yd TD run. The PAT was no good to make the score Bulldogs 13 Vikings 0. The start of the 3rd Quarter saw the bulldogs kick off to the Vikings. The Vikings started from their own 35yard line. They were trying to pass to there TE when Richard (Hollywood) Marques stepped in front of the receiver and intercepted the pass. Hollywood pressed turbo and ran it back for a 35yard TD. John Kelly was stopped just short of the goal line on the PAT attempt. Bulldogs19 Vikings 0. The final score of the day came when Jacob Munoz took a handoff and rumbled thru the line for a 40yd TD run. The PAT attempt by Billy Finn was stopped short. The bulldogs once again had a good team outing with the offensive line play of Omar Abdedlhamid, Farres Eldehshan, Richard Marques, Bryant Gonzalez, AJ Maestre, Jesse Madden and John McAndrew. Defensively the bulldogs once again played well and were able to preserve the shutout thanks to the defensive efforts of Michael DeSteno, Richard Doren, Anthony Dubenczic, Bryant Gonzalez, Liam Lynch, Carlos Monterrosa, Dylan Peterson, David Casanova, Farres Eldehshan, John Kelly, Tyler Aponte and Jacob Munoz.

    SUPER BOWL BOUND !!
In Rutherford Jr Football’s 40th year anniversary they will be playing and hosting the Meadowlands Super Bowl. RJF has two teams playing for the Championship this weekend at Memorial Field. Our Pee Wees (7-9 yr olds) & Seniors (12-13 yr olds) have made it to the Finals after two exciting semi final games this past weekend. The Rutherford Junior Football Peewee’s took on the Saddle Brook Peewee’s in a defensive slugfest. The Bulldogs kicked off to the Falcons and immediately set the tone of the game with some bruising hits. On the second play from scrimmage the Falcons fumbled the ball and it was recovered by John McAndrew. The Bulldogs started their first drive from the Falcons 40 yard line. The Bulldogs were able to gain about 19 yards behind the running of Sebastian Medina. The Bulldogs drive stalled on the Falcons 21 yard line where they gave the ball up on downs. The Falcons took over at their own 21 yard line and once again the Bulldogs smothering defense held the Falcons to negative yardage and forced another Falcon punt. After the Falcon punt the Bulldogs started on the Falcon 27 yard line. The Bulldogs attacked the heart of the Falcon defense and after a couple of attempts Sebastian Medina broke thru for a 19 yard TD run. The PAT attempt by Thomas Reid was called back because of a holding call. Bulldogs 6 Falcons 0. The rest of the half saw some great defense by both units. The Bulldogs took the second half kick and drove it down to the Falcons 30 yard line before some costly holding penalties killed the drive and forced a Bulldog punt. Thomas Reid pulled off an 18 yard punt and the Falcons were forced to start on their own 28 yard line. Once again the Rutherford Defense yielded negative yardage and forced another Falcon punt. End of the 3qtr Bulldogs 6 Falcons 0. The Bulldogs started this drive on the Falcon 35 yard line but once again shot themselves in the foot with some uncharacteristic penalties ending another drive. The Bulldogs were forced to punt again. This time Thomas Reid booted a 25 yard punt to force the Falcons to start from their own 8 yard line. The Bulldogs defense went back out and feeling the Falcon urgency, buckled down. On 3rd down from their own 8 yard line the Falcons tried a pass to their TE when Sebastian Medina jumped up and snatched it from the air and brought it back to the Falcon 3 yard line. The Bulldogs went back to work on offense but the Falcon defense dug down and held the Bulldogs out of the end zone. The Falcons started their final drive on their own 1 yard line with less than a minute left. Once again the Bulldog defense rose to the occasion and stopped the Falcons until time ran out. Final score Bulldogs 6 Falcons 0. The Bulldogs defense was dominant in the win (Sebastian Medina, Thomas Reid, John McAndrew, Jesse Madden, Andrew Brito, Anthony Avoletta, Brandon Sarnowski, Richard (Hollywood) Marques, Billy Finn, Jacob Munoz, John Kelly, and Omar Abdedlhamid. With the win the Rutherford Peewees move on to the Meadowlands Football League Pee Wee Super Bowl game next Saturday. The Rutherford Senior Bulldogs came out on a mission Sunday night. The Ridgefield Park Scarlet Knights defeated the Bulldogs in the regular season but the Bulldogs came ready to play. It was a defensive battle and each team knew the winner would go to the Super Bowl. Both teams came ready to play and wanted to continue the season. The Bulldogs had a stellar performance on defense as they stopped the Scarlets all game. The defensive play of the game came at the end of the half. The Bulldogs led 6-0 after a Anthony Ippolito T.D. but R.P. was on the 1 yard line with 2 seconds left in the half. R.P. tried a Q.B. sneak up the middle but the entire defense made up of Patrick Landrigan., A.J. Godsil, Jake Regina, Liam Gardner, Anthony Ippolito, Anthony Appolito, Nick Ricciardi, David choi, J.J. Watt, Rex MacMillan and Manny Medina stuffed the QB for no gain ending the half with the Bulldogs in the lead 6-0. The second half was pretty much the same as Anthony Ippolito and Patrick Landrigan blasted right and left controlling the clock. Anthony Ippolito punched it in for his second score of the night and also kicking the extra point making it 14-0 Rutherford. The defense then held R.P. the rest of the game with a "bending but not breaking" system as they denied R.P. a score. The drive ended as safety Rex MacMillan caught an interception. The Bulldogs then took a knee on offense ending the game with a final of 14-0.
