We are very glad you have taken the time to visit our website and we hope you will look through the different sections. Meet our coaches, meet our sponsors and learn a little bit about us and about Junior Baseball of Oregon.
ABOUT JUNIOR BASEBALL OF OREGON (JBO)
Junior Baseball of Oregon, Inc. is independent of any of the traditional nationwide baseball organizations, and governs the separate districts within Oregon. JBO is set up for players nine years old through 16 years old at three different skill levels. Generally, JBO plays by the National Federation of State High School Association Rules. There are some modifications at the various age levels that impact the length of base paths and pitching distances, but generally this is REAL BASEBALL! We lead off, we pitch from the stretch and we steal bases. Most youth baseball leagues do not allow this, we do so the kids get to play baseball just like their Major League heroes.
There are no “all stars” here. When teams are formed at the beginning of the season, they stay intact through the regular season. If the team is fortunate enough, they enter post-season play, and the team stays intact! The ultimate thrill is winning the State championship trophy, as a team!
JBO got started in 1948 in the Portland metropolitan area when Mr. Frank Bashor put together a six-team league for 11 and 12 year olds. From this start JBO has evolved to a statewide organization with over 500 teams and a State playoff system that allows a team as a group to play for a championship!
The mission statement of Junior Baseball of Oregon, Inc. is: An Oregon non-profit corporation that exists to provide young boys and girls an opportunity to participate in an organized baseball experience. It is the goal of Junior Baseball to provide each child, regardless of skill level, an opportunity to compete in baseball against other players of equal skill and age.
JBO’s Motto is as follows: Let us not forget that the true value of the program is not in winning games, but in keeping as many youths as possible engaged in a clean wholesome activity. There are many valuable lessons to be learned in a program such as this….far beyond the scope of baseball.

THE NORTH SALEM VIKINGS BASEBALL CLUB, INC.
In 2003 Cliff Munson and Chris Lee founded the Salem Senators, at that time they were the only Junior level JBO team in Salem. The team played at the Junior Federal level under the Senator name for two years. The Salem Senators are registered with the State of Oregon as a non-profit public benefit corporation.
In 2006 the Salem Senators became the NORTH SALEM VIKINGS; a 13 and 14 year old Senior team and continued to play in JBO. The name change was due to a Junior Baseball of Oregon redistricting and we now represent North Salem High School. If you are interested in becoming a Viking; contact us now.
Our team colors are red and black, a tribute to North Salem High School. Most of the players on our team will continue their baseball careers at NSHS and for that reason we took the Viking's colors. You will hear the players shout "Vikes" or "Vikings" before game. We are very happy to make the transition from Senator to Viking.
We are still coached by Chris Lee and Cliff Munson. Both are experienced players and coaches. If you will visit our “coaches” section of the website there is a biography for each coach. This should give you a better idea of how qualified the coaches of this team are to help develop baseball players.
Our goal is to form a team of dedicated players who wish to play together and learn together for the next several years. Junior Baseball of Oregon has programs to keep players active all the way to age 16, we would like to stay together as much as possible as a team through that landmark.
As important as a player’s ability is, we consider the character of the player and his or her dedication to the team of equal importance. We will not teach only baseball skills, but the skills of sportsmanship, loyalty to each other and respect for fair play and ethics. Hopefully these items will assist our players in developing necessary life skills to be successful adults.
