    Seals Junior Academy News!
    June 21, 2007  --
The Seals Jr. Academy has grown significantly this summer, and we are very excited about the response.  In fact, we are announcing some additional programs and specials!

    The Lion Hearts Program
The Lion Hearts Program started Tuesday, June 19th.  This program is for the older Junior Seal (11 - 14) who has experience and wants a more competitive, team like training atmosphere and still get high level skills training.  Pre-registration and payments must be received prior to participation to get the $15.00 per day fee.  You can attend one or all of the 12 days the program will run (every Tue and Thu for the last six weeks of the Junior Academy).  You just need to pay beforehand.  If you don't pre-register and pre-pay, the fee for participation is $20.00 however the trainer has the option of not including you if you are 1) not a good fit for the group or 2) there are already too many players.  Summer Pass carriers are eligible for this as long as they qualify by age and skill.  In fact, this is a great deal for the Summer Pass holder because they get their kick and get to eat it too.

To pre-register simply send a note to sfseals@gmail.com with the days you play to attend.  Any Tuesday or any Wednesday from now until the end of the Junior Seals Training on August 3rd.  Then add up the days, multiply by 15 and send that amount to:  SF Seals Juniors, 120 Magellan Ave, San Francisco Ca 94116

    Summer Camps
The Seals will run Camps this summer at Lincoln HS from 9AM to 3PM for the last two weeks of July.  The cost is $250.00 per child for a 5 day camp.  Send your camp inquiries to sfseals@gmail.com.  If you wish to register, send a check for $250.00 to Seals Camps, 120 Magellan Ave, San Francisco, CA 94116.  We will organize the camps by age and by ability assuming we have the numbers that allow us to do so.

    Summer Passes
They are still a good deal. There are 35 days left to train with the Seals this summer.  A Summer Pass will save you $275.00 if you attend on a daily basis i.e. cost you about $7.00 per day.  In addition you get admission to all remaining Seals home games (see schedule at www.oursfseals.com)!

    New Pricing for Individual Sessions
In response to the request for reduced pricing for individual training (for field players and goalkeepers) the coaches have agreed to reduce their fees.  We will charge only $50.00 per hour for that training instead of $75.00 per hour.  We are very pleased to reduce this fee and can only do so because of the generosity of the coaches.  Remember these coaches only get to coach for 2 hours out of any day and so any money they make in soccer is made during this short period.  It's a tough way to make a living, but these guys love what they do.  They love to work with you,  the Juniors,  because they know the future of the game is with YOU.

    Seals Academy Update
    July 25, 2007  --

After a slow start with two losses and a tie, the U20 team won 6 or their next 7 games to finish 2nd in the Western Division of the Y League. The Seals scored more than 3 goals per game over the whole season. Their most impressive win was an away game at DVSC who was undefeated at the time. It was the staunch defense that kept DVSC in check.   Goal scoring was inevitable as the relentless attack by the Seals eventually produced 3 goals.

The slow start was the consequence of starting the season before players were available.  This is a problem with the Y League U20 since many of the players aren't available until their colleges close.

But the team showed an enthusiasm for training and a commitment to games that translated to effective play on the field.  This second year for the U20s demonstrated that the U20 program provides a vital role to the local players in this age group.  These are players who are transitioning to the college game and their U20 experience with the Seals and the Seals U20 teams is assisting in that transition.

    Other News From the Academy

U13 Girls Hold on to First Place in Group:  With three games to play the U13 girls have a good chance of taking home first place and being eligible for the National Tournament in Florida later this year.  They currently have a 6 point lead over second place DVSC who have four games to play.

U14 Boys Hold on to First Place in Group:  With two games to go, and one against second place Mustang (who have four games left to play), the U14 boys have a two point lead.

U14 Girls Within Striking Distance of First Place:  With two games to play the U14 girls are 4 points behind the group leaders in their division, USA 17 Academy and Mustang, who are tied with 21 points.

U16 Girls Turn Around in Mid Season:  After a tough start with a 1-5-1 record, the girls have recorded 4 straight wins.  Three games left in the season will probably not be enough to take the group, but what an impressive showing at a time when the team could have folded!  Instead these girls kept fighting and have shown terrific character.  Way to go girls!

U17 Boys Still in the Hunt:  This team has struggled with some games and been brilliant in others.  With six games to go, they can take their Group.  We'll be rooting for these boys!

Free Season Tickets to ALL Seals Academy Players!
May 5, 2007  --   The San Francisco Seals PDL team is providing each registered Seals Academy player with a free season ticket to all home games through the 2007 season.  "We are really pleased with the progress within the Academy, and look to see a lot of the players growing into PDL players in the future" stated the Seals General Manager Tom Simpson.  "The Seals play at the highest level of amateur soccer in America today, and you'll see future professional players at every home game throughout the season."

Matt Fitzgerald played midfield for the Seals last year, and was signed this season to the California Victory.  Matt performed very well in the preseason, and applied considerable pressure on the Vancouver Whitecaps defense in the Victory's season opener in Vancouver last weekend.  "Matt Fitzgerald is a really high energy guy that can make things happen," noted Simpson.

Nick Murphy, a player with the San Francisco Seals U17 team in 2005/2006, also played with the Seals U20 and PDL teams.  "Nick has been a solid player throughout his youth career" said Simpson.  "We helped connect him with the German 3rd division team in Osnabruck, where he has been playing with their U19 youth team, and we hear is a strong candidate for promotion. We are very happy for him!"

The Seals PDL team have two home matches this month, and both are qualifier matches for the U.S. Open Cup.  The first match is against the Lancaster Rattlers at 4pm Sunday May 20th, and then on Memorial Day, Monday May 28th at 1:00pm.

According to Paul Sheirich, Directory of Marketing and Communication for the Seals Academy, tickets will be distributed through the team coaches and managers.  "Tickets will be going out in the mail the week of May 7th,"  stated Sheirich.  "All coaches and team managers will also receive season tickets.  We will also be releasing a Friends and Family Discount Coupon that can be used by player family members to purchase tickets at a discount."

San Francisco Seals Expand their Academy in 2007
October 24, 2006  --   The Seals are excited to announce they are adding a Girls program to their offering in 2007.  “We hope this will follow the path laid out by the boys program, and result in a girls PDL team within the next two seasons,” announced Tom Simpson, General Manager and Head Coach for the Seals organization which includes the youth Academy.  “It may be a bit ambitious, but we are looking for sponsorships to help the Seals build the program for all levels of play and gender.”

“We have boys youth teams in all age groups (U13-U20), and this year we are expanding to add girls teams to the Academy,” Simpson added.  “Our approach to expansion is to work with youth clubs throughout our franchise area to seed those teams, and not to compete with those clubs during the regular CYSA season.  We want our Academy teams to be solely competing in Super Y, and U.S. Club Soccer events that meet academy standards of competition.”  More . . .
