Thank You for A Fantastic 2009 Season!

The 2009 summer softball season has sadly come to a close, but that doesn't mean an end to TCGSL softball this year - the NAGAAA World Series will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin August 30-September 6th and TCGSL will be back for four fun weeks of Fall League softball.

Fall League begins September 12th and runs four consecutive Saturdays at Northeast Athletic Fields.  Fall league is a bit more relaxed than summer league.  Depending on the number of interested teams, there may be one or more divisions.  Teams (and rosters) are typically more relaxed as players come out for fun softball in a friendly environment.

Fall League Details

Dates:  September 12, 19, 26, and October 3rd
Cost:  $200 per team (due by Sept 12) - most teams split this cost among all of the players
Teams must keep the name of a summer TCGSL team.
Players do not have to have played in the summer league (but must have a player form on file or fill one out before playing).

2009 Season Playoffs
August 1st & 2nd - Northeast Athletic Fields

Now that we have completed all 10 weeks of the regular season, teams have been divided into four divisions based on end-of-season results and rankings.  Following the division breaks, teams were seeded for playoff games based on their record within their division - games against teams in other divisions were considered for league ranking, but not for playoff seeding.

The 2009 playoffs will be held at Northeast Athletic Fields on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd starting at 8:30 am on Saturday and 9:00 am on Sunday.  This will be a traditional double-elimination tournament, but at least two teams in each division will be eliminated on Saturday.  Championship games are scheduled for 2:25pm Sunday with if-needed games immediately following (in cases where neither team has experienced two losses).

Playoff rules are the same as regular season league rules.  3/2 count (some refer to this as starting with 1 ball and 1 strike).  1 courtesy foul.  Unlimited batting order/roster (all players must have qualified for the league during the regular season).  One hour time limit for all games except championship games.  Teams who enter an ineligible player into the game will be disqualified from the tournament.

In the winners bracket (undefeated teams), the high seed will choose if they are home or visitor.  In the losers bracket, high seed calls the coin toss for home/visitor.  In the championship game, the undefeated team chooses home/visitor.  In if-needed game, high seed calls the coin toss.

Rain-out Game Update:

Due to the poor weather and field conditions, the Opening Day games had to be canceled just as the day started.  All week one games will be moved to June 7th.  Any innings played on April 26th are nullified and do not count - all games start over.  The online schedules have been updated to reflect this change.
Week 2 games will be played as originally scheduled on May 3rd..

This move adjusts the TCGSL schedule by pushing the games from Weeks 6-10 one week later.  Reranking of teams will occur after the June 7th games with Week 6 games played on June 14th.  Week 10 games will now be played on what was the rain weekend (July 25th).  Playoffs will be August 1st & 2nd as originally planned.

Thanks for Supporting TCGSL at the 2009 Minnesota AIDS Walk

Thank you to all of the league members, fans, and supporters for making the TCGSL contingent at the Minnesota AIDS Walk a success!  We saw about 100 league members at the walk and many more were supporting in the background or as a part of other walking teams.  With over $6,000 raised for MAP, TCGSL was the third-ranked fundraising team at this year's walk.

2008 Fall Ball is Here!

Join us for the TCGSL Fall League every Saturday in September.  This year, 9 teams have registered and will play double headers each week.  Want to play, but didn't find a team?  No problem - just show up on Saturday and Northeast and there's usually room for a few pickup players.  Anyone who did not play in the summer league will have to submit a new player form before playing, but there is no individual player fee in fall (just a $200 per team fee due in week one).

Thank you for a Successful 30th Year!  Join us for Fall League in September!

The 2008 Summer Season of TCGSL softball has sadly come to an end.  Eleven weeks of softball, an exciting North Star Classic Tournament, and many fun events and fundraisers later, the 30th season of summer ball is done, but 2008 Fall League is just around the corner!  Join us at Northeast Athletic Fields for four bonus weeks of ball September 6, 13, 20, and 27.  Have a team and want to enter?  Drop us an email to register.  Want to play, but need to find a team?  No problem - fill out the "New Player Information" form and let us know.

Fall league tends to be a much more relaxed version of ball than the summer league.  Few teams have uniforms for fall league, rosters are more relaxed, and teams head out for some friendly competition.  Registration is $200 per team (no individual player fees, although most teams split the cost amongst the players).  Teams do have to form under the name of a summer team.  Players who did not play in the 2008 summer league must also submit a player registration form (but no membership fee).

Congratulations to the four teams who will be representing TCGSL at the NAGAAA World Series 2008 in Seattle, Washington August 25th - 30th.  For the B division, Saints and Stealth, and for the C division, Edge and Mess.

The next league managers meeting will be September 15th at Painter Park, Minneapolis.

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn't mean TCGSL Softball is done - Fall Ball is Here!
After another successful season and a brief break, TCGSL is back with Fall Ball 2007.  Fall Ball is very relaxed.  It is a great place to practice your skills, meet some new friends, or for new players, see what the Goodtime Softball League is all about.

If you want to register your team, or you are an individual looking for a team, contact the Assistant Commissioner, Ralph Calico, at ralph@tcgsl.org.  Please note:  unlike the summer league, Fall Ball games are on SATURDAYS (September 8, 15, 22 & 29)
Deadline for team registration is Wednesday, August 29th.  Schedule will be posted Tuesday, September 4th.

Fall Ball does not charge player fees, but does require a $200 team fee to cover the league expenses (Due on the first Saturday of play).  Most teams split this team fee among the players on the roster.  Those who played in the 2007 spring/summer league do not need to fill out another player form, but anyone not on a spring/summer 2007 roster must sign and submit a TCGSL Player Form (available under "Handouts/Documents" on this site) prior to playing.

2007 NAGAAA World Series

Congratulations to the Outlaws and Sluggers - the winners of the 2007 C-Division World Series playoffs held June 2nd.  These teams will join the Stealth, Saints, and Mess to represent TCGSL in the NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series this October in Phoenix, AZ.

TCGSL 2007 End-of Season Rankings

After 11 weeks of play and 20 games per team, the final numbers are in.  Here is the list teams have been awaiting - the end-of-season rankings for the 2007 season.  These rankings will also be used as the starting point for the 2008 season.

Please note that division breaks do not follow normal NAGAAA ratings breaks, so we are referring to them numerically (or colorfully!)

  • 2 umpires
  • 60 minutes or 7 innings
  • Roster for Playoffs are due to Ralph Calico by 5 P.M. Thursday, May 31st.  The following Roster Rules apply
    • No change to roster after 5 P.M. on Thursday, May 31st.
    • 2006 player ratings are used for existing players (new players must be rated before the playoff)
    • No player allowed with a player rating above 14.  Top ten players ratings must not total above 130.
    • Up to 4 pick-up players OK with good faith committment  to play with that team in the series ( and meet all other qualifications - must qualify in TCGSL this season with ten games)
    • Straight player rules apply (no more than two, must have qualified in the league in 2006 and 2007)
  • Teams who qualify must submit a $300 hotel deposit to NAGAAA by July 15th (will be returned once you stay in a NAGAAA hotel for the series)
Rules for determining World Series C Division Teams
  • Two teams can represent TCGSL at the NAGAAA 2007 World Series in C Division.
  • The two teams will be determined through a round-robin playoff.
  • The two teams with the most wins in the playoff will represent TCGSL in the C Division World Series tournament.
  • In the event more than two teams have the top qualifying win records due to winning record ties, the following criteria is used to determine the World Series qualifier(s):
Start with the first criteria and continue until a winner(s) is determined.
1.  Most wins Head to Head.
i.e. Team A and Team B have the same win record.  Team A beats Team B in their only game together.  Team A wins.  If there is not a clear winner using this criteria move to Criteria 2.
2.  Most total runs scored during the playoffs.
i.e. Team A scored 20 runs during the playoff and Team B scored 27 runs during the playoff.  Team B wins.  Note:  Only the runs in a 7 inning game will be counted towards the total runs scored/allowed
If there is an extra inning game, runs scored/allowed in innings 8, 9 , 10 for example would not count towards/against any team.  If there is not a clear winner using this criteria move to Criteria 3.
3.  Least total runs allowed during the playoffs.
i.e. Team A allowed 14 runs during the playoffs and Team B allowed 21.  Team A wins.  Only the runs in a 7 inning game will be counted towards the total runs scored/allowed If there is an extra inning game, runs scored/allowed in innings 8, 9 , 10 for example would not count towards/against any team.  If there is not a clear winner using this criteria move on to Criteria 4.
4.  Winner of coin toss.
UIC leads coin toss.  Highest seed chooses heads or tails.  Winner qualifies for World Series.  Note:  In case of three-way tie, two tosses will occur.  First Toss:  highest seed vs. second highest seed, Second Toss:  loser of first toss vs. lowest seed.
Invite all your friends, family and league counterparts to come cheer on your team.  I anticipate this year being as exciting as last.

Good Luck!

2007 Season Information

  • All games will be at Northeast Athletic Fields (official address is 1615 Pierce St NE, but if you map 1500 Filmore St NE, 55413 you will get better directions)
  • Like last year, TCGSL will operate three seasons:  Spring, Summer, and Fall.  The Spring and Summer seasons will each consist of five weeks, but teams will only register once.  Players cannot switch teams between spring and summer seasons without commissioner approval.  The league is using this schedule to allow for teams that are misranked for the spring season to be moved for the summer season and keep the games fun and competitive.  Fall season will remain a separate, standalone season in September.
  • The season kick-off party will be held at the Mineapolis Eagle/Bolt on Saturday, April 28th starting at 6pm.
  • While we love new members for the league, most teams are full for the Spring season.  Fill out the New Player Information form if you would like to be on the list in case teams have openings, or check back for the fall league.
  • Players must be registered and have submitted a player form and payment ($65) to a league officer prior to playing their first game.  Players who play in a game before an officer receives the form and payment will be cause for automatic forfeiture of any game they play in.
  • Donuts and other warm up weights on bats are illegal per ASA rules.  Weighted sleeves that cover the bat may be used.
  • Miss TCGSL is scheduled for Sunday, July 15th - start picking out your frock and number!

Fall League 2006

Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn't mean TCGSL Softball is done - Fall Ball is Here!  After another successful season and a brief break for the NAGAAA World Series and Labor Day, TCGSL is back with Fall League 2006.  To date, six teams have signed up to play, but if you aren't on a team, feel free to contact Peter at membership@tcgsl.org or show up at Northeast fields September 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.  Please note that unlike the summer league, Fall League games are on SATURDAYS.

Fall league does not charge player fees, but does require a $200 team fee to cover the league expenses.  Most teams split this team fee among the players on the roster.  Those who played in the 2006 summer league do not need to fill out another player form, but anyone not on a summer 2006 roster must sign and submit a TCGSL Player Form (available under "Handouts/Documents" on this site) prior to playing.

Notes:
1.  Mac Grillz has informed the league that they will be unable to field a team for the playoffs, so they are not included in the seedings and no games against Mac Grillz were counted for seeding purposes.
2.  Seedings are based on intradivisional games only - no games outside of your division (as listed above) were counted for these seedings.  See the official playoff brackets for the win/loss record and percentage used to determine the seeding order.
3.  All games will follow the same rules as during the regular season (including the 3/2 count, batting, etc.), but all games will have two umpires.
4.  60 minute time limit on playoff games
5.  Home team choice in the winners bracket will be made by the higher seeded team.  In the losers bracket, higher seeded team calls the coin toss.

2006 Season Rankings
After 20 regular season games, the results are in!  Keep in mind that these rankings are based on overall league play for the entire 10-week season to determine division breaks for the playoffs and will be the starting point for ranking teams for the 2007 season.  The playoff seedings will be different from these season rankings since the playoff seeds are based solely on win/loss record against other teams within your division (inter-divisional games are ignored for playoff seeding purposes, but used for overall league rankings).  Without further ado....here they are!  (with playoff divisions noted)

Hall of Fame Nominations -Extended to May 31st!
The TCGSL Hall of Fame is in it's third season and is seeking nominations for 2006 inductees.  Any player, fan, sponsor, or other person affiliated with the league for at least seven years is eligible for nomination, but your nomination is due now for consideration in 2006!  Check out the Hall of Fame information and nomination forms - all available in the Handouts/Documents section of this site (see the menu on the left side of the page) and the Hall of Fame page.

The Hall of Fame Booster Club is also seeking donations to help sustain and promote the Hall of Fame recognition program.  The Hall of Fame is intended to be a self-supporting operation within the league to recognize the players, fans, league leaders, and others who have made TCGSL one of the greatest, and one of the largest, gay softball leagues in the US!

Make a booster club donation of $50 or more and receive a spiffy TCGSL embroidered shirt as a thank you for your support!

Week Two Games Rescheduled and Moved to Week Six

The Week Two games that were rained out last Sunday have now been rescheduled under direction from the league officers and will be played on June 4th, 2006 (i.e Week Six) at the same time/fields as originally scheduled for April 30th.  This will push the season into eleven weeks with the final week of games being played on the original rain date.  Should we have another rainout situation this season, the games could be scheduled for the open fields at 4:30pm over several weeks.  This extension of the season allows us to make up the games without affecting the teams that requested different scheduling to accommodate the AIDS Walk and prevents the need for 8:55am games.  Team realignment (i.e. re-ranking) will occur after these games have been played and the schedule for June 11th games will be posted online by June 6th.  Teams can plan for week six by looking at their week one schedule - the top-ranked teams will play afternoon games and the lower ranked teams will have morning games.

2006 Season Information

  • All games will be at Northeast Athletic Fields (official address is 1615 Pierce St NE, but if you map 1500 Filmore St NE, 55413 you will get better directions)
  • This year, TCGSL will operate three seasons:  Spring, Summer, and Fall.  The Spring and Summer seasons will each consist of five weeks, but teams will only register once.  Players cannot switch teams between spring and summer seasons without commissioner approval.  The league is trying this schedule to allow for teams that are misranked for the spring season to be moved for the summer season and keep the games fun and competitive.  Fall season will remain a separate, standalone season in September.
  • Rankings and game schedules will be decided at the April 17th executive board meeting - it is important that each team have a representative at this meeting.  Schedules will be created and posted on this site following the meeting.  All game weekends are already on the league calendar (see the calendar link on the left, or check out the upcoming events at the bottom of the home page).
  • The season kick-off party will be held at the Mineapolis Eagle/Bolt on Saturday, April 22nd.
  • There are still players looking for teams - contact Peter at membership@tcgsl.org if you are looking for players.

Miss TCGSL 2006 Pageant - June 18th - Saloon
It's that time of year again - time to hang up your cleats, throw on a frock and some heels, and show your moves for the annual Miss TCGSL Pageant.  The 2006 pageant will be held at the Saloon in Minneapolis and is presented by ID Lube.  Check back for more details, but start working on your number.  The Spurs will be back to defend their 2005 title, but will your team emerge to be crowned with the tiara in 2006?  As always, all teams are encouraged to enter to make the night an exciting league event!

Weather Reminder:  While we have been fortunate to have had plenty of beautiful, warm, sunny weather leading up to our kick off, this is spring in Minnesota.  With a wet Saturday leading into week one games, TCGSL would like to remind our players and fans to expect that games will be played as scheduled unless you are notified otherwise by the league.

Our experience at Northeast Athletic Fields have shown few weather-related problems - the fields drain well, and are playable even with a lot of rain prior to the games.  The Assistant Commissioner and UIC will review the field conditions on Sunday morning and make a determination on whether the fields are safe to use or not - please assume that games will be played.  Should there be a delay or cancellation of games for any reasons, the team managers will be notified by phone and an update will be posted on this page (in a red box) as soon as the decision has been made.
