    Teamwork !

A group becomes a team when each member is sure enough of
himself and his contributions to praise the skill of others.

    * Coming together is a beginning.
    * Keeping together is progress.
    * Working together is success.

The will to win is worthless if you do not have the will to prepare.

Teamwork; Simply stated, it is less me and more we.

Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.

    "In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity;
every player must put the team first-ahead of personal glory."

    - Players please read coaches words, rules and tips for 2009!
    - Parents please read rules and parents roles for 2009!

    Role of Parents !

We, as baseball coaches, realize that we have been given the awesome
responsibility of developing the abilities of your son to the fullest.

    - You, as parents must understand that each athlete must be handled
according to their personalities and needs.

    - It should also be understood that positions on the team must be earned.
Starting positions on the baseball team are assigned according to the
needs of the that particular team. For example, at some positions, defense
may be sacrificed for offense, and vice versa. The attitude of the athlete
toward the team will also be a determining factor in many instances.

    - The coaching staff encourages your attendance at all of our games. We
however ask that you observe the following procedures when you are in
    attendance:

    * Please refrain from talking to the players and the coaches unless it is
    absolutely necessary.
    * Players are not permitted to leave the playing field for any reason
without the permission of the coaching staff.
    * We all will be glad to offer suggestions on how to develop the techniques
your son is being taught or drills that will help your son to be a better
    player.
    * Many times well meaning parents tell their son techniques that are in
direct contrast to those that the coaching staff are trying to develop.
    * Remember, working together everyone accomplishes more.

    - The coaches want all of the athletes focused on the task at hand,
performing in the game. In order for this to happen, we ask the following
    from you:

    * Parents are asked not to come in the dugout area.
    * If there is a problem, please ask the coaching staff to arrange a time
to meet and discuss the situation. Embarrassing situations between
players, coaches and parents happen many times on or near the playing/
practice field; in everyone's best interest, please follow this
    procedure.
    * Players are not permitted to leave the dugout area after practices or
games until dismissed by a coach.
    * If there is a emergency, please see one of the coaches first.

    Pitcher's Arm Care
    1. Wear sleeves below the elbow.
    2. Do not warm up while wearing a jacket.
    3. Between innings, wear a jacket.
    4. When sleeping, wear a long sleeve over the pitching arm.
    5. Do not apply ice unless: you have swelling or pain, or
you have thrown more than five innings.
    6. Do not pick up a baseball at any time until: you have warmed
up joints, you have stretched the arm & you have warmed up
    and stretched the total body.
    7. Do not attempt to throw when another body part is injured
    and affecting the delivery.
    8. Find your natural arm groove (overhand, three quarters, or
in between) and stay with it. Throw all pitches from one angle.
    9. Follow through. The follow-through is the body's way of
    protecting itself.
10.Learn to read the body's warnings and know when to quit throwing.
There is a fine line between pain and fatigue. It is inadvisable
to throw with pain, but with supervision it is possible to gain
arm strength when throwing with fatigue.

    A Word From Your Coaches - 2009 !
    Mississauga Majors AAA

THROWING - Develop accuracy, quickness and powerful throws.
    - Proper footwork and alignment is key to becoming an accurate thrower.
    - Prepare yourself mentally to practice perfect drills. Practice
does not make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect.
    - Be committed to repetition. Once you can practice a skill with consistent repetition, your muscle memory will take over and it will become second nature.
    - Maintain excellent flexibility in your arms and shoulders. Stay loose, stretch out properly.

FIELDING - Expect the ball to be hit to you every pitch.
    - Mentally prepare yourself before every pitch.
    - When fielding, stay low and be ready to take quick steps to the ball.
    - Keep your eyes and head on the ball until it is in your
    glove.
    - Being physically ready is just as important as being mentally and
    skillfully ready.
    - You cannot be afraid of getting dirty.

HITTING - Understand the strike zone, what is a ball what is a strike.
    - Develop your hit zone, look for the type and location of the pitch
you hit best and develop the ability to hit all pitches in the strike
    zone.
    - know your strengths and weaknesses as a hitter.
    - Confidence. If you think you can hit, you will hit!
    - Expect every pitch to be your hit pitch.
    - Hit the ball hard somewhere all the time. Don't hit the ball out of
the park some of the time.

PITCHING - In order to pitch effectively, you have to develop three
things; control, consistency and the ability to change speeds.
    - Over time, develop three basic pitches, fastball, change-up and a
    breaking ball.
    - You have to be a self-reliant thinker. You cannot expect the coaches or
your catcher to make all the calls for you.
    - Understand hitters, pitch selection and location. Keep hitters off
    balance.
    - Prepare to take excellent care of your arm. Ice and run after each time
    you pitch.
    - If you cannot throw strikes you cannot pitch.

BASE RUNNING - Smart base runners use their eyes first, legs second.
    - commit to working hard on base. Your job is not done once you have gotten
on base. Be aggressive, put pressure on the infield and outfield to
    make mistakes.
    - Judgment, alertness, instinct and understanding will turn a medium
skilled base runner into a excellent base runner.
    - Know every situation when your on base. When to run and when not to run.

*** PLAYERS IF YOU WANT SUCCESS, LIVE BY THESE WORDS! ***

Major Tips From Your Coaches - 2009 !
    Mississauga Majors AAA

THROWING - Good alignment and quick feet will increase your chances of
    making accurate throws.
    - Practice how you would play in a game situation.
    - The better care you take of your arm the better you will throw.
    - Long toss to strengthen, maintain and prevent arm and shoulder
    injuries.
    - Throw with passion. Remember that recreational throwing can be
your best practice. Focus on a target (partner's chest) and try
to hit it every time. Throwing is to baseball as skating is to
hockey, if you can't throw you can't play baseball.

FIELDING - Be aggressive on routine ground balls; field every one in the
middle of your body to protect you against a bad hop.
    - Back up your teammates on every play; encourage them to do the
    same.
    - Get to know your pitcher. Don't be on your heels when the pitch
    is crossing home plate.
    - Go through a mental checklist before every pitch, situation,
balls, strikes, outs, runners on base, etc.
    - Looking for location of pitches. Bat angles can often help you
get that extra step to make the play.
    - Study hitters, pay close attention to their strength, weakness
tendencies. This will help you position yourself on the field
    better.

HITTING - Know your hitting objective before you step into the batter's
    box. For example, situation hitting.
    - Select a bat you can handle. Bat speed is the most important,
not how big of a bat you swing.
    - By average, you will fail seven out of ten times as a good
hitter. Being able to deal with failure more times than success
    is critical.
    - Do not get down on yourself about previous at bats. Take
advantage of every new at bat and believe you're going to do
    something good.

PITCHING - Think positive at all times, never get down on yourself in any
    situation.
    - Mentally concentrate on your sign, target, selection and
location, prior to delivering a pitch.
    - Develop rhythm and consistency through mechanics.
    - Be the best conditioned athlete on your team.
    - Be confident and aggressive. Know you can get every hitter out
    on every pitch you throw.

BASE RUNNING - Always think next base. Be aggressive.
    - When arriving at any base always find the ball.
    - Slide on anything close.
    - Never get picked off standing up.
    - Never make the first or third out at third base.
    - Touch each base with your right foot when rounding the
bases, it will save you valuable steps around the bases.
