Clarke and Attwood linked up well to create another good chance for Walsham, Wivenhoe had a good move which was cleared by Head. Attwood then had another good run and pulled the ball back for Musgrove to shoot over the bar. As Walsham looked to increase their lead Sim went on a good run and pulled the ball back to Tatham whose shot was cleared off the line. Sim repeated the same again for Tatham but this time he shot over the bar. Towards the end of the half Connell for Wivenhoe broke clear but a great tackle by Newman prevented him from getting in a shot. Just on half time following a scramble in the area Soanes put Walsham 2 – 0 up.
Walsham started the second half well and were creating some good chances. After 55 minutes a quick break by Walsham found Tatham who pulled the ball back for Soanes to increase the lead. After 60 minutes an excellent flowing move saw Walsham increase the lead when Soanes completed his hat trick. Walsham were now well in control and putting some good moves together, Wivenhoe were now looking a well beaten side but Carr managed to get in a good shot that went wide. NEEDHAM MARKET 3 WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 1
November 30, 2009  --   Taken from the Needham web site many thanks

Needham Market made three changes from their midweek League Cup victory over Stowmarket with Barber,Buckle and Horlock replacing Boyland,Evans and Agricole for the visit of locals Walsham Le Willows on a chilly late November afternoon.Needham Market had their new signing Damian Hilton on the bench.

Craig Parker received his 100th appearance award from now “Online” chairman David Bugg before the game.

The first action of the game was a booking for Musgrove for handball in the 8th minute before a Butler shot was tipped over by Walsham’s Mcanally in the 15th minute following a Thrower corner.Musgrove fired over from 20 yards after 23 minutes and Smith’s cross was too high for Thrower five minutes later after a fine Buckle pass but neither side were keeping hold of the ball long enough to create any chances on goal. It looked as though a low key half was going to drift towards the break goalless until Walsham took the lead 3 minutes before the half time whistle when from a Walker long throw STEVE HOLDER rose highest to head in from close range before Tatham was booked for a foul on Butler to bring a poor half to a close.
H/T NEEDHAM MARKET 0 WALSHAM LE WILLOWS 1

With hopes of a livelier second half Walsham started the better and Barber had to block a Musgrove effort on his goalline two minutes in to the half after Jones spilled a Tatham cross.Needham introduced new boy Damian Hilton after 53 minutes replacing Buckle before JAY DENNISS equalised 4 minutes later scrambling home a Thrower corner. All of a sudden there was some life in the Needham crowd and they started to get involved in the game instead of the social chit chat of the first hour and Bethell had an effort blocked by Mcanally 62 after minutes.Pemberton was booked for a foul on ex-Needham man Sim a minute later being joined in the book by Holder in the 67th minute.Phillips replaced Smith in the 69th minute before Needham took the lead when in the 74th minute when CRAIG PARKER converted a Hilton header back across goal following a Horlock cross.Clarke was booked for a foul on Parker after 75 minutes and Walsham made a double substitution introducing Soanes and Cusack for Head and Partridge.Cusack was soon in Mr Tynes book for dissent and Bethell was replaced by Evans with the game now a lot livelier but few good chances were being created with Walsham’s Tatham and Holder failing to test Jones until DANNY PHILLIPS chased down a Horlock long ball, brushed aside Newman and fired past Mcanally to make the game safe in the 89th minute.

F/T NEEDHAM MARKET 3 WALSHAM LE WILLOWS 1

Three good points against a Walsham team who never stop and a 3-1 victory for Needham at half time looked unlikely

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 3 LEISTON 2
    November 26, 2009  --   Walsham-le-Willows 3
    Leiston 2
    Half time: 2 - 2

    Kick off: 19:45, Wednesday, November 25 2009

Walsham were at home to there more illustrious and the table topping Leiston Town in the Ridgeons League Cup. The match was an even contest from the start with Walsham putting some good moves together, Leiston then got their game together an went in to a 2 goal lead. Walsham could easily have thrown in the towel and collapsed but to their credit they fought back with two excellent goals by James Attwood and Paul Musgrove to be level after 30 minutes. The game was end to end and the score remained 2- 2 at half time. The second half commenced with Leiston looking very positive but the Walsham defence held firm, Walsham were not giving Leiston any time on the ball and battled for everything, much to the dislike of Leiston as they never had time to settle on the ball, Macanally made two excellent saves to keep the score at 2 -2, the game was now end to end with both sides having half chances, with 5 minutes remaining the Walsham substitute Will Brown scored an excellent goal by chipping the keeper from the edge of the box to give Walsham an excellent 3 – 2 victory to progress in to the next round.

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 1 HARWICH & PARKESTON 0
    November 21, 2009  --   Walsham-le-Willows 1
    Harwich & Parkeston 0
    Half time: 0 - 0

    Kick off: 15:00, Saturday, November 21 2009

Walsham were at home to lowly Harwich & Parkeston, Walsham took the game to the opponents right from the start, Tatham had a good run but shot wide and after a goalmouth scramble Sim had a shot excellently saved by the Harwich keeper Heard. A cross from Soanes was deflected which brought another good save from the visiting keeper. Walker, Clarke & Sim all had good chances to give Walsham the lead but missed the target,
At the start of the second half a quick break by Hughes for Harwich resulted in an excellent tackle by Clarke to prevent the shot being on target. Walsham were still putting in numerous crosses and corners but could not find the net, Harwich lost there goalkeeper through injury but the substitute keeper made some excellent saves. Deep in to stoppage time following a scramble in the penalty area Walsham were awarded a penalty and after Springett was sent off for the incident Tatham put the penalty away to give Walsham victory. WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 1 MILDENHALL TOWN 1 (ABANDONED AFTER 55MIN)

    Mildenhall Town 1
    Half time: 1 - 1

    Kick off: 15:00, Saturday, November 14 2009

Mildenhall started off the more positive side and after 4 minutes Thurlbourne for Mildenhall shot over when well placed. After 12 minutes a bad clearance from the Walsham defence allowed Murkin to beat keeper Lynn from 22yds. Tatham had a good run and his shot was deflected for a corner and from the corner Newman headed over the bar. Mildenhall were still in general dominating the game and Thurlbourne then had a shot turned away for a corner by Lynn. Walsham had a good chance to equalise when an excellent run by Tatham resulted in him pulling the ball back for Partridge whose shot was well blocked by a defender. Turner for Mildenhall had a shot hit the post and keeper Lynn did well to block the follow up from Murkin. In the 44th minute both sides were reduced to 10 men following an incident spotted by the referee and then from a quick free kick Walsham equalised, a good move between Cusack and new signing Soanes allowed Tatham to score. Walsham came out in the second half looking more positive and were taking the game to Mildenhall and from a long free kick Head had a header cleared from the goal line. Good play between Walker and Tatham set up Musgrove who shot wide and high when well placed.
After 55 minutes there was an electricity failure and the referee abandoned the game. It has been agreed to play the game again on Wednesday 18th November.

    Kirkley & Pakefield 4
    Half time: 1 - 0

    Kick off: 15:00, Thursday, November 12 2009

    (after extra-time)
KIRKLEY & Pakefield moved into the semi-finals of Suffolk Premier Cup with an extra-time victory at Walsham
It was the fifth meeting this season between these two clubs and the game was very even for the first 10 minutes.
North then had a good shot for Walsham which was well saved by the Kirkley keeper, Musgrove then broke clear but failed to find Tatham who was well placed to score.
Kirkley were putting some good moves together but Walsham still had the better chances. After 40 minutes Cusack’s free kick was deflected past Kirkley keeper Woodcock to give Walsham the lead.
Walsham had other chances to increase the lead but failed to take them.
As the second half progressed Kirkley were coming more into the game as Walsham sat back, Henderson was prominent in a lot of the moves, an excellent free kick by Fox for Kirkley produced a fine save by the Walsham keeper McNally, who was injured in the process.
But after lengthy treatment he was able to carry on.
Kirkley equalised with an excellent shot by Fox to take the game in to extra time.
In the first period of extra time both sides had good chances but then a disputed penalty for Kirkley was put away by Woodcock to give Kirkley the lead. Still Walsham battled for the equaliser but Stone and Fox scored two late goals to give Kirkley a flattering score line of 4-1

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 2 ELY CITY 2
    November 1, 2009  --   Ridgeons Premier League
Walsham le Willows 2 v Ely City 2
After a rather uneventful start to the game and with hardly any chances being created Ely took the lead after 25 minutes when the Walsham defence committed a foul on the edge of the penalty area, from which the free kick was fired home, Walsham continued to press for an equaliser which they duly got on the stroke of half time with a rather lucky goal, when a shot from Will Brown was going wide when it got a deflection to James Tatham who deflected it in to the goal. The second half was much the same as the first half with both sides showing plenty of endeavour, but not much flowing football. As the game progressed Ely were looking more determined and they regained the lead after 65 minutes when poor marking allowed the Ely forward a free header from 6 yards. Walsham equalised when Steve Holder was fouled in the box and Andrew Cusack put the penalty away on 75 minutes. The game then petered out with neither side looking like getting the winning goal.
Walsham Res were without a game this week

    Walsham-le-Willows 0
    Half time: 0 - 0

    Kick off: 19:45, Wednesday, October 28 2009

Visitors, Walsham Le Willows, came for a point and got what they wanted putting 9 men behind the ball at times during the 90 mins with Kirkley unable to break them down. The visitors had the first attempt on 9 mins, but Steve Holder's header had no power and after that, in a fiesty and torrid first half that threatend to boil over at times, Kirkley had all the play winning the corner count and had Stone's shot hit the inside of the post and came out on 29 mins. Henderson stabbed the ball straight into the keepers arms with a gaping goal in front of him and the Henderson, Stock and Stone combination set up many moves.
Second half pressure by Kirkley started with a Fox neat chip a yard wide, then Henderson slid the ball likewise passed the far post. Two cast iron penalty decisions went against Kirkley, man of the match Grint hit the side netting as Willows contiued to defend and as time ran out Henderson and Stock got in the way of each other with a free header awaiting from a Grint cross.

The game was even for the opening minutes, after 7 minutes Walsham failed to clear a corner and from 20yds Luke Callendar struck a great volley to give Stanway the lead, after 10 minutes a good free kick by Andrew Cusack was headed wide for a corner for Walsham and from the corner Nathan Clarke put a free header wide. Walsham were playing well in midfield and creating some half chances. After 25 minutes a good move by James Attwood and James Tatham resulted in Steve Holder scoring a good headed goal for the equaliser. At the end of the first half two bad defensive mistakes resulted in Alex Drennan and Sam Newson giving Stanway a 3 – 1 lead at the break. At the start of the second half Nathan Clarke put a header over the bar, Stanway then won a corner and from the corner Kevin Hughes scored with a header to increase the lead for Stanway, Sam Newson then outpaced the Walsham defence to further increase the lead. After 60 minutes a quick free kick found Sam Newson who outpaced the Walsham defence to score. Walsham tried to get back in to the game and a good cross from the right resulted in Steve Holder having a header saved by the keeper, and Alan North also had a good shot deflected for a corner. Sadly after another mix up in the Walsham defence allowing Sam Newson to increase the lead for Stanway.
At times Walsham played some good football in this game but the final ball was broken down by the Stanway defence and some bad mistakes by the Walsham defence and the strength and pace of the Stanway forwards was the difference

    FIRST TEAM 0 HISTON 1
October 4, 2009  --   Walsham le Willows kicked off against Histon Res in blustery conditions with Histon looking the more positive side early on, from an early corner the ball broke to Max York for Histon whose good shot was well held by the Walsham keeper Duncan McNally, after 20 minutes a good long ball from James Attwood found James Tatham whose shot was deflected for a corner for Walsham, Walsham had another good effort when a good long ball from Andrew Cusack found Steve Harley but his shot from 25 yards. was just over the bar, a shot from Andrew Tidswell for Histon was well saved by the Walsham keeper, once again James Tatham had another good effort saved by the Histon keeper Joe Welch. A long ball into the Walsham area was well defended by Tom Fenner, as the first half came to a close a good 20 yard shot by Andrew Tidswell for Histon rattled the post with the home keeper beaten, on the stroke of half time Steve Harly and Will Brown had shots blocked by the Histon defenders. The second half continued in the same way as the first with Walsham putting some good moves together but the final ball was not good enough, James Attwood for Walsham made a good challenge to stop Histon from getting a shot on target, Stuart Walker then had a 35yard shot go just wide of the upright. Once again the Walsham keeper had to make a good save to deny Histon taking the lead. After 60 minutes a good cross from Lewis Taffee for Histon resulted in Andrew Cusack putting the ball in to his own net to give Histon the lead. Walsham then had three close range efforts cleared by the Histon defenders, the Walsham keeper once again made a good save to keep Histon at bay. James Tatham then had a shot well saved by the Histon keeper, Steve Holder had a good overhead kick attempt to equalize for Walsham but sadly on the day Histon were the slightly better side and went home with the 3 points.

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 3 FELIXSTOWE & WALTON 0
    October 1, 2009  --   Walsham 3 v Felixstowe & Walton 0
Walsham entertained Felixstowe & Walton in the Preliminary round of the Ridgeons League Cup. Play was even for the early part of the game but slowly Walsham were taking control of the game and it was no surprise when after 30 minutes Holder put Walsham in front, Felixstowe tried to get back in to the game but the Walsham defence held firm to give them a deserved lead at half time. Felixstowe came out for the second half with a more positive attitude but Walsham always looked like increasing their lead and this they did when Walker scored the second goal. Once again Walsham were now in control of the game and should have increased the lead after 80 minutes when Tatham, Partridge & Musgrove all got in close range shots which keeper Rose for Felixstowe made 3 excellent saves in quick succession. In the 90th minute after a good cross Musgrove scored Walsham’s third goal with a scrambled effort to put them in to the next round.

Special mention to Lee Nocton who drove all the back from Scotland to play.

NEWMARKET TOWN 1 WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 5
September 26, 2009  --   Walsham 1st team were away to Newmarket Town, looking for a good result following the bad run of results we have had just lately, they welcomed new signing Steve Harley but were without the influential Paul Musgrove who was injured !! (That is a pint you owe me "Muzzy"). Walsham had the better of the play in the opening 5 minutes with a good effort by Holder testing the Newmarket keeper, Holder was then in action at the other end as he blocked a good effort from Newmarket, Sim & Tatham both had good chances to score but failed in front of the goal, after 20 minutes a good ball by Harley caused panic in the Newmarket defence which resulted in a corner and from the corner Head put Walsham in front and on the balance of play they deserved this lead. After 25 minutes a good shot from Betson of Newmarket was well held by the Walsham keeper, Holder & Wood then combined well for Walsham with Wood shooting just over the bar. Newmarket had a good free kick which caused confusion and nearly brought them an equaliser, a good move between Attwood & Harly resulted in a good cross for Tatham to score from close range to give Walsham a 2 -0 half time lead. Newmarket started the second half in a more determined mood and with Walsham giving the ball away to often in midfield, it was not a surprise when Betson pulled a goal back for the home side, good defending and good handling by the Walsham keeper kept them in front, after 68 minutes a break by Walsham saw Holder put in a good cross which Brown put away to make it 3 -1, Newmarket came back and a good shot was well saved by the Walsham keeper. Brown and Tatham both went close to increasing the lead for Walsham, after 82 minutes after a good move Brown was brought down in the penalty area and Cusack gave Walsham a 4 -1 lead, by now Walsham were playing the better football and a good flowing move from defence saw Tatham score to complete the scoring for a good result in the end for Walsham.

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 0 KIRKLEY & PAKEFIELD 5
    September 22, 2009  --   F A Vase, 2nd Qualifying Round, Walsham le Willows 0 v Kirkley & Pakefield 5
Kirkley & Pakefield kicked off against an under strength Walsham side and after 5 minutes a good shot by Henderson for Kirkley was well held by the Walsham keeper McAnally, play was from end to end for the first 10 minutes and then Kirkley took the lead when a long throw in to the box caused confusion and Henderson was on hand score, after 14 minutes another good shot from Henderson was just over the bar, Kirkley were in control of the game now and after 25 minutes they increased the lead when from a deep corner kick Jefford headed back across goal for Stock to score. Walsham were giving the ball away to easily enabling Kirkley to keep them under constant pressure, after 35 minutes once again Henderson was left in space and a good shot went just wide, a good shot by Grint for Kirkley was well saved by the Walsham keeper, in the 44th minute Stone broke clear for Kirkley and shot wide when he should have scored, just on half time an excellent run by Henderson ended with him setting up an easy chance for Stock to make it 3 – 0 to Kirkley. In the 50th minute Tatham for Walsham set up Holder but he shot tamely at the keeper, after 52 minutes a good turn and shot by Stock was well saved by the keeper. Walsham tried to get back in to the game with one or two decent moves but after 55 minutes Kirkley increased their lead through Grint. After 65 minutes a good move by Walsham resulted in a penalty but Cusack’s penalty was well saved by keeper Woodcock, Kirkley were in control of the game and after 75 minutes after a good move Fox made it 5 – 0, Kirkley had other chances to add to their score and Robinson had a good header go just wide for Walsham. At the end of the game Walsham were a well beaten side by a good Kirkley & Pakefield side.

WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 1 LEISTON 4
September 18, 2009  --   HOW LEISTON SAW IT

On Wednesday we moved onto Walsham and yet another difficult away fixture. But what transpired was a fantastic team performance and a resounding scoreline that, without being disrespectful to Walsham, flattered them. Michael Brothers turned in an outstanding performance ably assisted up front by Allicion Blake they worked their socks off, as did the remainder of the side to record a first League victory at Sumner Road. Marc Lowe headed us into a fifth minute lead with his first of the season before an outstanding equaliser from Attwood from distance. Danny Cunningham nodded us back in front and after an absolute hatful of chances we had to wait until the 90th minute before that man Michael Brothers secured the win. The icing on the cake came deep into stoppage time when Stuart Boardley hit a sizzling volley from twenty odd yards home direct from a Cunningham corner and with his right foot! Lets hope this will provide the stepping-stone for some more consistency

September 13, 2009  --   Ridgeons Premier League, Wivenhoe Town 2 – Walsham le Willows 2
Walsham were away to bottom of the table Wivenhoe who were still looking for their first points in the league, straight from the kick off Walsham were in command of the game and were creating numerous chances of which they could not open the scoring, after 25 minutes J Tatham created an opening for Alan Ross to open the scoring for Walsham with a close tap in. With no further goals despite the dominance of Walsham the half time score remained 1 – 0 in Walsham’s favour. In the second half Wivenhoe came out more determined and a good effort hit the post, Walsham were still in control of the game but then from a Wivenhoe long throw, which caused panic in the Walsham defence the Walsham keeper made a mistake and Wivenhoe equalised, Walsham were still pressing for the winner when another long throw in to the Walsham penalty area caused confusion once again and Wivenhoe went 2 – 1 front, against the run of play. Walsham scored a deserved equaliser when with 10 minutes to go A Ross was brought down in the penalty area and A Cusack put the penalty away, Walsham were unable to get the winning goal with the game finishing all square at 2 – 2 to give Wivenhoe their first point of the season.

HADLEIGH UTD 0 WALSHAM FIRST TEAM 6
August 23, 2009  --   TAKEN FROM THE HADLEIGH WEB SITE, MANY THANKS.

Hadleigh found the going hard in the first home Ridgeons Premier League match for twelve seasons.

Walsham took the lead after four minutes when Stuart Walker scored from close range. Then a fre kick from Walsham's Andy Cusack was smothered by Aaron Benstead as Walsham stamped their authority.
