Selection Criteria
Team Selection Process
1. Academic achievement in classroom- eligibility. No spots will be held for students who are ineligible.
2. Athletic and basketball ability.
Players will be evaluated on their conditioning, speed, quickness and agility in addition to the following basketball skills: footwork, ballhandling, dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, screening, defending the ball, defending away from the ball and game knowledge.
3. Year in school
If it comes down to equal ability a player who has more time to develop will be selected. Example: A junior with equal ability will be selected over a senior because they can spend two years in the program instead of one.
4. Attitude & dedication to the program
The amount of time put in prior to the season is a factor in the situation a player is in when they try-out. If a player has made no effort to improve themselves over the past 8 month off-season they can't expect to be rewarded at try-outs. The amount of dedication to improvement a player has made has either improved or lessened their chance of making the team.
5. Coachability
The ability to work with coaches and other players will play a role in whether or not a player is selected for the team.
6. Program Position Needs
Every position is open. No spots have been guaranteed to any player so no one should take anything for granted. Having skills to play different positions improves a player's chance of making the team.
Both the junior varsity and varsity teams will carry anywhere from 10-15 players. While there is no set number the final selections are based on what will be best for the program.
