Coaches Certification
Coaches are entrusted with the important responsibility of providing an enjoyable, healthful youth sports experience. Coaches are role models and are held accountable to a code of behavior that keeps youth sports in proper perspective. To assist with this vital undertaking, the Anne Arundel County Department of Parks and Recreation provides a coaches clinic. The clinic covers topics such as coaching philosophy, sports psychology, legal matters, first aid, health and much more. There is no cost for this clinic. These clinics are not sport specific, but provide general coaching information.
All coaches (head and assistants) are required to attend an Anne Arundel County Parks and Recreation Coaches Certification Clinic to obtain certification before coaching. The certification is given in levels, you have up to three years to get the next level or your current certification level will expire. You do not need to wait three years between certification clinics to obtain the Gold level and be certified for your entire coaching career in Anne Arundel County.
If you are unsure of your certification please check the AA County file of Certified Coaches and Volunteers NOTE: This is a large (~1.5 Meg) pdf file you need to search. This list also contains your background check which needs to be renewed every 3 years. If you are not listed and believe you should be contact AA County Parks and Recreation Mark Oliver at (410) 222-7311 Ext. 3539.
Coaches Clinics are held four times a year at different locations around the county, so watch the Parks and Rec website here for a location and time convenient for you we also try to post the clinics here, but may not always be up to date.
We also like to have coaches obtain the Cal Ripken coaching certification, this is an online course and is only needed once for your entire coaching career at SAC.
