The Alabama Cardinals Give Back

On April 27, 2011, Alabama was devasted by numerous tornadoes that swept through the Southeast. Because we were so blessed, the Alabama Cardinals went out into the impacted communities and helped as many of our citizens as we could. Here is our testimony: Cardinals Give Back

2010 YBOA STATE CHAMPIONS

THINK PINK - MEMPHIS (More than a game)

From the Director:

Every now and then, you can take part in an event that is more than just a few games of basketball. June 4-6, 2010, the 11U & 12U Cardinals participated in the Think Pink Cancer Awareness Tournament in Memphis Tennessee. Because this illness has touched Cardinals and members of their family, it was an especially emotional event. Let's say a prayer for those that have survived or fighting the battle against Cancer.

Through Christ, all things are possible.

Congrats to the 11's & 12's for finishing in first place.

With Love and Admiration,

Coach Hill

CARDINALS 16&U GIRLS

The Alabama Cardinal 16 under group banded together for their first year of competition. With limited experience and few players at the age requirement. These Cardinal young ladies struggled to find consistency. However, after gelling together in local tournaments, they journeyed to the Tennessee Miracles Classic to face some of the top AAU programs in the country. These young ladies who were often out matched in size showed great courage by battling game after game, successfully made it into bracket play. Each young lady from the 16 under Cardinal team will most certainly bring an added bonus to their respective High School teams and do great things. Be on the look out for some of them in College Basketball…

Go Cardinals !!!!

Coach Ken is extremely proud of you!

CARDINALS 13&U GIRLS (HILL)

WHAT A SEASON FOR THE 13'S

This team was one of the best teams I have ever coached. The determination and fight these players displayed was more than I hoped for. They never gave up and fought to the end of every game. I believe every player will return to their school better than they we're before they started playing with the Cardinals. This team started the season by playing in the championship game in three of the first four tournaments.

I was Blessed to be in a position to coach these players and honored they allowed me to coach them.

Coach Hill

CARDINALS 14&U GIRLS

14U Season of Promise

The 14U team began the season few in numbers. The young ladies impressed many with their hard work and determination. What was not recorded on the scoreboard was recorded in the growth and development of each player as the season progressed. The girls played many of the top teams in the nation to within single digits and was able to showcase their talents in front of many college coaches and scouting personnel. I appreciate the girls commitment to growth and advancement in the game. I look forward to seeing each of them progress as they continue to achieve their goals. Good luck during the upcoming school season and remember, "There is No Substitute for Hardwork".

April Peake

CARDINALS 12&U GIRLS (RICHARDSON)

The Alabama Cardinals 12U Red was coached by Coach Richardson and the team really put in a lot of hard work and each player grew in their basketball skills. Being a first year team, we worked quite a bit on the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, shooting, rebounding and learned full and half court presses and learned several types of offenses too.

The team was able to be very competitive even though we lacked size in the low post and only one player on the team had AAU travel experience. The players really worked hard to elevate their skills to the level of play. Every player improved greatly during the course of the season. In spite of the lack of size and experience we were able to finish in third place in the Storm tournament, second place in Swoosh tournament and finished second in the YBOA Super Regional Tournament.

The team scored 735 points against high-level competition and we were very proud of that statistics for the beginning team this last year. We averaged around 25 points per game offensively and worked hard to learn several man and zone defenses. Angel Kidd, #24 was the teams leading scorer at the wing position and Danielle Richardson, #22 was the second leading scorer on the team at point guard. We had a great season of basketball and are looking forward to the next season and even greater things for our 13U effort.

2010 Start! Heart Walk - Birmingham, Al.

Unfortunately, too many of us have a loved one affected by heart disease or stroke. As the leading cause of death in this country, cardiovascular disease claims almost as many lives each year as the next 7 leading causes of death combined.

Follow this link to visit a personal web page and help us in my efforts to support American Heart Association - Birmingham, AL

http://birminghamheartwalk.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=336426&lis=1&kntae336426=A14313CFC5FD461CBEB4A7D736AA0230&supId=297715793

Thanks to you, this year’s Birmingham Start! Heart Walk was a huge success – and that success isn’t just measured in the money you helped raise. The true value of Heart Walk was reflected in the faces of those walking to remember a loved one, committing to a healthier lifestyle and striving for a better community.

For those that have contributed, thank you for your gift to the American Heart Association in support of your friend or family member participating in the Start! Heart Walk. Your contribution helps save lives by educating individuals about how regular physical activity and good nutrition can build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. We invite you to learn more about how your donation enables the AHA to make extraordinary impact on your life and the lives of those around you.

Job well done Cardinals. We support our communities as much as our communities support us.

COACHES COMMENTS

Coach Peake is proud of the effort displayed by the 14U team at the 2009 Southern Starz Super Regional. The team is continuing to blend as one unit and is on pace to be one of the surprise teams out of Alabama to
make a splash on the national AAU circuit. Keep up the good work.
Coach Peake

Coach Hill is so very proud of the effort the 10's displayed in the Alabama Elite Tournament in Huntsville the weekend of April 10th. The 10's demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and character. The coaching staff and I are so very proud of the maturity of our players. I beleive with all my heart that talent will take us only so far, but character will bring us championships.

THERE'S NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HARDWORK. YEAH!!!
Coach Hill

“Your Potential is nothing without Performance and Execution”

We are starting to live up to our expectations and began playing as team. I was proud of the team for the effort displayed in the Swoosh Tournament and especially in the Championship game vs the Twisters. The 12U Cardinals showed that they could handle adversity when point guard and team leader Frantisha Tyson was injured in the early moments of the game. They all pulled together, and everyone stepped up their game in the win over the Alabama Twisters.

Thanks
Coach Rory

“Maturity is the ability to bear an injustice without wanting to get even."

I am very proud our girls, we are learning to play discipline basketball, and more importantly to play through adversity. I think we are “Maturing” as a team. Our first year together and first State YBOA Championship and the expectations continue to rise. Congratulations to this “Special” group of Girls!

Thanks
Coach Rory
