GVAA Field Instructions for Managers & Coaches
Pre-Game: BOTH TEAMS MANAGERS & COACHES
Absolutely, positively NO soft tossing into the fences

1. Install the bases in the appropriate boxes installed in the ground. Be sure the bases sit flush to the ground by removing excess dirt in and around the boxes.

2. The bases should be in the storage sheds at each field. CORRECT BASES, AA, AAA, Majors are 14", Babe Ruth are 15" bases.

3. Inspect the infield, outfield and foul territory, for any abnormality such as holes, divots, and holes in fence(s) or trash and make whatever adjustments you can. If something cannot be fixed and you feel it is a danger to the players consult with the other Manager and Umpire(s) to determine how to handle. Any questions call your commissioner or board member.

4. Where needed rake the area to remove excessive defects in the infield.

5. 1st and 3rd base baselines should be marked using the appropriate machine and marking lime found in the storage sheds. Lime should be used on the dirt and extend from batters box only as far as the outfield grass line.

6. Baselines on the grass should have already been painted on. Do not use lime for these.

7. Batters boxes should be drawn on each side of home plate to the specifications in the Cal Ripken rules book. Templates are available that are already to specification.

8. Store rakes and dragging mats back in the shed during the game. Leaving them out during the game could be a safety hazard.

9. If you are using the scoreboard, the control box & instructions can be found in the shed. Let your commissioner know if you have any problems with it or if any light bulbs are burned out.

10. If you are out of any supplies or missing any equipment that belongs in your shed, please let your commissioner know.

11. If the field is in disrepair when you show up for a game inform your league commissioner as soon as possible.

Post-Game: BOTH TEAM’S MANAGERS & COACHES

1. Last game or practice of the day. Remove ALL bases and put them back in the appropriate storage shed.

2. Rake the entire infield using either rakes or dragging mats. Leave the field in the condition you would like to see it in when you show up for a game.

3. Clean up ALL dugouts of trash and equipment BEFORE leaving the field. Leave the dugouts in the condition you would like to see it in when you show up for a game. If they are in need of repair inform your commissioner or Board Member as soon as possible.

4. Replace all rakes and dragging mats in the sheds. Do not leave the rakes out over night.

5. Be sure that scoreboards are turned OFF and control box & instructions returned to the shed. Be sure the main power switch is shut off.

6. Be sure to turn off the lights on the field you have used when your game or practice has completed.

7. Close and lock all sheds with combination locks provided. If lock is missing advise your commission as soon as possible.

8. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER LEAVE THE FIELD UNLESS A PARENT OR GUARDIAN HAS PICKED UP ALL PLAYERS – NO MATTER HOW OLD THE CHILD IS!

9. THE MANAGER SHOULD BE THE LAST PERSON TO LEAVE A FIELD.
