Media Area Girls Softball Mission Statement

 Who We Are

Media Area Girls Softball is a non-profit organization based in beautiful Media, PA.. The organization is comprised of members of the community from Media and the surrounding municipalities. We are a group that loves the game of softball and is working very hard to pass that love of the game on to the girls in the community.

What We Do

The mission of the Media Area Girls Softball program is twofold. First, to serve the community by providing school aged girls with organized recreational softball. Second, for those girls who wish to pursue activity under adult supervision, teaching them the game of softball, developing their athletic abilities, and instilling in them fundamental concepts of good sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty, fair play and respect for others.

History

In 1994, a small group of children (12-15) and parents wanted a more competitive game of softball in the Media area than what was being offered, Thus they formed The Media Fast Pitch Club. With one team they were able to compete in the Del-Val League. By 1996 the small organization had gathered momentum and two other teams were added. The following year brought growing pains. Another group of softball players and parents wanted to join an organization that offered a positive approach to the game of softball. Three more teams were added however these teams were made up of slow pitch players and a recreational division was formed.

By 1998 the organization had grown and became known as Media Area Girls Softball. They were now twenty four teams strong serving over 350 girls. In 1999 the organization continued to grow. They became incorporated under the name Media Area Girls Softball, Inc. By 2002 the organization had twenty eight teams with over 475 girls involved. Eight teams played fast pitch in the DEL-VAL League and twenty teams in the in-house slow pitch division. There was also one instructional team made up of first graders. At one point there was even an after school program at the four elementary schools in the Rose Tree Media School District.

In 2016 the transition to a fastpitch model began and a Tball division was also added.  The league began to provide opportunities for any girl who was in Prek - 12th grade.

In 2022 the MAGS community and Board decided that we needed a mascot/nickname and thus the Media Swarm was born. Our official name is still Media Area Girls Softball, but we now have the nickname of Media Swarm. That same year we also transitioned our Travel Teams away from the Del Val league and into the local Babe Ruth league. We are not currently chartered as a Babe Ruth organization, but we do play our Travel season against other teams in the local Ridley/Interboro Babe Ruth league. We also collaborated with Clifton and Springfield softball programs and began the Baltimore Pike League (BPL) for our Rec League teams. Currently our Rec teams not only play against our in-house Media teams but they also play against other teams in the BPL.
